Byzantine Empire Justinian the Great and also Saint Justinian the Great in the Eastern Orthodox Church, was a Byzantine (East Roman) emperor from 527 to 565. During his time of being the emperor, he sought to make the empire great and reconquer the lost western half of the historical Roman Empire, and he a was one of the important emperors and maybe the last roman emperor to speak Latin as his first language. He created new laws to regain and maintain power over the citizens. He played a big part as an Emperor because he was known for the restoration of the Byzantine Empire. Because of his positive actions towards the recovery the Empire, gave his citizens trust knowing that they have an emperor who truly cares. The Byzantine Empire had the most powerful economic, cultural, and military force in Europe. Although the Byzantine Empire was strongly protected, it still had its weaknesses The Roman army succeeded in conquering many territories covering the entire Mediterranean region and coastal regions in southwestern Europe a nd North Africa. These territories were home to many different cultural groups, both urban populations and rural populations. Having control of all of this land makes it nearly impossible to maintain control with only one emperor. To maintain control and improve administration, various schemes to divide the work of the Roman Emperor were made. It got divided into the West and the Eastern Roman Empire. Invaders were slowly taking over st many parts of the West leaving nothing behind and claiming it as their land. This is where Justinian the 1 came in and started taking command over the Empire creating new laws maintaining balance for the citizens in the East. During the reign of Justinian I , the Empire reached its greatest extent after reconquering much of the Roman western Mediterranean coast, including North Africa, Italy, and Rome itself, which it held for two more centuries. Other conflicts that the Byzantine Empire faced was religion and language. The split between the East and the West christianity, called the Great Schism, was the result of a great split in religion, language, tradition, customs, and theology. According to the catholic church, the pope had supreme religious authority over any political ruler. Another problem with being split into two divisions like the East and the West is their political differences and control. When you have little to no communication with the rest of your country makes it difficult to ask for supplies or even get reinforcements from your country's military. With this being said, the West decided to have a different religion and also use a different language than the East. Before these two sides couldn’t even communicate with each other very good but they can still come up with agreements. Now that the West made these changes makes it impossible for both sides to even reason with each other. This also creates wars between both sides and also making them weak for invaders to easily raid their cities with ease.
Islam The Founder of Islam was Muhammad in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion based upon the Qur'an . The Qur’an comes from the late 8th century or the early 9th century. The Muslims believe that the Qur’an is a transcription of God’s message to Muhammad. Muhammad was known as the messenger of god and seal the prophet's, Muhammad had an important job/responsibility to tell the believers. The Qur’an is meant to be recited as a part of the Islamic worship.
The five pillars of Islam is a way that the Muslims would recite daily. They would accept a creed
on absolute authority. “God is great. I testify that there is no god but Allah. I testify that Muhammad is the apostle of god.” They would have to finish the five duties, recital of the creeds, recital of the set prayers, the fast of Ramadan, almsgiving and the pilgrimage to Mecca. Islam’s government was based on religion making it Theocracy. At the time Muhammad was the leader of Islam. He had two boys but sadly both of them died therefor there was no heir to the throne. Instead of someone from his family to rule, his father in law Abu Bakr was the leader for Islam. Problems came because things started to change between people who believed in Muhammad and those who thought differently. Islam got divided into two groups, the Sunni Muslims and the Shi’ite Muslims. The split comes in a dispute soon after the death of the Prophet Muhammad over who should lead the Muslim community. The Shiite believed that Muhammad left his son in law to be the leader of the Islamic Empire. The Sunnis favored Abu Bakr, the prophet's adviser, to become the first successor, or caliph, to lead the Muslim state. He was the father in law and thought to be the leader after the death of Muhammad
Black Death I skim the crowd as a man starts coughing up blood. He was covered in boil like blisters the size of a baseball. He passes out and I go home to my wife and kids. I explain to my wife that we need to be carefull. Later that day I overheard that the man died and it was just a bad cold. I knew something else was going on but I didn’t know what. It was the start of the biggest death toll in history. It was Black Death, the disease that killed within days or weeks. Everyone in the city run rampant yet some stay inside caring for their loved ones who fell into the percentage of death. Sadly my kids had gotten hit and had fallen onto the percentile but me and my wife stood strong. I watched as ragged men took them away as they threw them on their back and took them into a hole with all of the other men and woman who fell ill. I knew that me and my wife had to leave to escape the massacre that we are doing to each other. We were slowly killing each other when we touched each other or even coughed. That seemed to be the best thing to do whenever every one that you see and know is doomed to a certain death. How has it come to people throwing their loved ones at other colonies to kill fellow humans. How can you bring yourself to kill another human being with someone you loved and possibly it being your child? That would be the biggest slap in the face knowing your loved one doesn't care enough about you so they throw you at someone. I wasn’t informed that my wife was going to be thrown at someone just because they don’t like them. My wife was taken by Black Death, but I stood by her side and never left her. I am surely to get the horrific disease that is sweeping humanity clean but at least I will be able to see her soon. I knew after the first day that she wouldn’t last long. She had pneumonic plague, The life expectancy was only a few days and I spent every second with her. I held her hand as she coughs her last breath and goes limp. They carry her to a catapult and I run over to her screaming “no that’s my wife, you can’t do this”! I see her fly and I just fall to my knees and hold my hands to my face sobbing. I wait for my body to succumb to the plague and it’s not coming soon enough. Days go by and no symptoms but when I finally accept that I am lucky, I close my eyes and never wake up.

My wife is sick and she doesn’t seem to get any better. Days go by and we can’t figure out what is causing these big round shaped balls from growing out of her body. Her hands started swelling up and turning purple. Then a few hours later they turned completely black. Never in my life have i seen something like this. Her skin went from a smooth white color to a rough, bumpy black skin that got worse every day. Coughing up her intestines every time she coughed. Bleeding every night
and day. It looked if she wanted me to kill her so she won’t suffer.A man knocked on our door and said he can get rid of the body for a very pricy amount of money. But I wasn’t just about to give my wife away to some stranger. Thank god I didn’t because the next morning I looked out the window to see people throwing bodies into one big pile and covering them with dirt. It’s sad to see how people don’t care about others loved ones and throw them into a hole with other people like if they were a rag doll. Later that day my wife died and I was left alone. My father has caught the flu. It has been a few days now and he is not getting any better. He has started to get bumps on his neck so we have asked the doctor to come look at the infection on his neck. My brother has also gotten sick. I think it is the same illness. This does not seem like the regular sickness. Italy, April, 1348 Today the doctor came to see my father and brother. He said that a lot of people have gotten this sickness and they do not have a cure for it. My father and brother have the Black Death. My father has gotten bigger bumps and the war has started. They have decided to catapult the dead that had the Black Death at the enemy because there are so many bodies. This illness is spreading fast and people have started to lock themselves in their houses. People think they should leave because God is punishing the wicked people and only if they stay in the walls of the city. The people that stayed and are dying don’t have to follow any laws. We can not fight the infection and no doctor has found a cure. We are not going to win this war everyone is dead or dying.
