HEAD COACH TIM CRAFT • 1st season Tim Craft is in his first season as head coach at Gardner-Webb University, a program he has enjoyed success with previously – and a program he plans to continue molding into a Big South Conference contender. Craft, 36, returns to Gardner-Webb after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at East Carolina and the previous three seasons on staff at Auburn - one as Director of Basketball Operations and two as an assistant coach. Craft spent each of those six seasons at the side of former North Carolina point guard standout Jeff Lebo, who starred for the Tar Heels from 1986-1989. Auburn and East Carolina combined to win 109 games and make three postseason appearances during Craft’s time on staff, averaging more than 18 wins per season. Prior to his time on Lebo’s staff, Craft spent three seasons as an assistant coach at GardnerWebb (2004-2007) and played a critical role in the two best seasons the Runnin’ Bulldogs enjoyed as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Craft is coming off of the best season in East Carolina basketball history. The Pirates won a school-record 23 games in 2012-2013 and capped the run with a CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) championship. The Pirates tied for fourth place in Conference USA and advanced to the league’s tournament quarterfinals. ECU ranked second in C-USA in scoring, averaging a sizzling 76.5 points per game and led the league in assists per game (17.2), assist-turnover ratio (1.36) and 3-pointers made per game (7.8). Defensively, the Pirates ranked No. 3 in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage defense and were among the circuit’s best in blocked shots (4.46 per game) and steals (7.97 per game). Nationally, East Carolina ranked No. 2 in assists per game and No. 18 in scoring offense. Forward Maurice Kemp became the first ECU player to earn first-team All-Conference USA honors, averaging a league-best 18.9 points per game in addition to a solid 8.0 rebounds per game. Kemp was named MVP of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Two-time All-C-USA guard Miguel Paul led the league in assists and averaged 13.3 points per game, turning that production into an NBA tryout with the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards following the season. Craft helped the Pirates to 56 wins during his three seasons in Greenville, N.C., helping oversee a complete turnaround of a program that had not experienced as many as 15 wins in a season since 1996-97. East Carolina posted 18 wins in Craft’s first season, the program’s first above .500 in 14 years. Craft spent three seasons on staff at Auburn (2007-2010) and helped the Tigers average nearly 18 wins per season during his time in the Southeastern Conference. In 2008-09, Craft helped Auburn to 24 wins, a second-place finish in the SEC and a postseason run that ended in the quarterfinals of the NIT. Craft has been a part of major success in Boiling Springs before. His first season on the bench in Paul Porter Arena saw Gardner-Webb win its first Division I team title, bolting to the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2004-2005 to win the league’s regular season crown. The Runnin’ Bulldogs advanced to the A-Sun title game in the postseason, and finished with an 18-12 record. Gardner-Webb followed that effort with 17 wins in 2005-2006. Craft helped develop four All-Conference players during his time with Gardner-Webb as an assistant coach, including two-time A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year Tim Jennings. He also helped assemble a recruiting class in his final season with the program that was ranked No. 49 nationally by Hoop Scoop. Prior to coaching at Gardner-Webb, Craft spent two seasons as an assistant at Pensacola (Fla.) Junior College (PJC) under coach Paul Swanson. In 2003-04, the Pirates went 20-10 and were ranked as high as No. 13 nationally. At PJC, he coached forward Joel Anthony, who has won a pair of NBA titles as a member of the Miami Heat. Anthony was the 2007 Mountain West Player of the Year at UNLV. He also coached Tim Jennings, who went on to star at Gardner-Webb for two seasons. Twelve of the players Craft coached at PJC signed Division I scholarships and 91 percent earned their two-year degrees. Craft began his coaching career as the assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Robert F. Munroe School in Quincy, Fla., in 200001. He was promoted to the Head Varsity Boy’s Basketball Coach at Munroe the following season in 2001-02 before moving to PJC in 2002-03. He earned his bachelors of arts degree in history with a minor in secondary education from the University of Florida in 2000. Craft and his wife, Jessica, have three children – Lola (6), Macy (4) and Bennett (9 months).

ASSISTANT COACH JEREMY LUTHER • 1st Season Jeremy Luther is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Gardner-Webb University men’s basketball program, and brings a wealth of knowledge and outstanding credentials to the bench. Luther has 14 seasons of experience on the college sidelines, including the past six seasons as a head coach at a pair of NCAA Division II programs. The Tallahassee, Fla., native forged an 82-80 overall record in those two head coaching stops. He spent 2007-2009 rebuilding a Newberry program that had not won more than 12 games in a season since 2003-2004. In just his second season at the school, Luther led the Wolves to a record-setting campaign, posting a 21-8 overall record and a second-place finish in the South Atlantic Conference. The overall and league win total (10-6) both established new school records for Newberry. Luther directed Armstrong Atlantic to a pair of winning campaigns during his time in Savannah, including a 15-12 mark in 2012-2013. Senior guard Aric Miller was named NABC Division II All-American and Daktronics/CoSIDA All-Southeast Region after leading the Peach Belt in scoring at 23.7 points per game. The Pirates won 11 games in the ultra-competitive Peach Belt Conference. The 2012-2013 season also included a win over No. 20 St. Leo (Fla.) in November. Luther spent 2001-2007 as an assistant coach at Mercer, helping the Bears to an Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title in 2002-2003. Mercer finished that season with a 23-6 record, the most wins in school history at that time and the first winning season at the school since 1996. The season also marked the Bears’ first season with more than 15 wins since 1985-1986 and included an impressive 14-2 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. During Luther’s time in Macon, 10 Bears student-athletes went on to play professionally. Luther also spent time as head coach at Windsor Academy in Macon, Ga. (2000-2001) and as an assistant at North Greenville (1998-2000). Luther started his playing career at Robert Morris (1992-93) before playing two seasons at Liberty and Covenant College. In is final two seasons at Covenant, Luther netted 1,300 points. He was named to the NAIA Division II All-America team following his senior season, when he pumped in 26.0 points per game. Luther graduated from North Greenville in 1999 with a degree in english. He and his wife, Ginny, have two children – Bryson (6) and Kendall (3).

ASSISTANT COACH TAKAYO SIDDLE • 4th Season Takayo Siddle enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Gardner-Webb men’s basketball program. Siddle joined the staff in 2010 after spending one season as an assistant coach with the postgraduate team at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatam, Va. – historically one of the most successful prep school programs in the nation. Serving under Hargrave head coach and current University of Louisville assistat coach Kevin Keatts last season, Siddle helped the Tigers to another extremely successful campaign that saw 12 players sign NCAA Division I scholarships – including five who will play in either the ACC, SEC, Big East or Big Ten next season as freshmen. Siddle is no stranger to Boiling Springs, N.C., having played four seasons with the Runnin’ Bulldogs before graduating in 2009. As a freshman, Siddle was a key part of teams that upset Minnesota and East Carolina on the road and that took defending national champion North Carolina to the final buzzer. As a junior, Siddle helped Gardner-Webb upset No. 20 Kentucky in Rupp Arena and advance to the final four of the 2007 2K Sports College Hoops Classic in Madison Square Garden. Siddle played in 32 games that season, averaging 5.5 points for a team that won 16 games. The Eden, N.C., native started all 30 games for the Runnin’ Bulldogs as a sophomore, averaging a careerbest 8.6 points per game and dishing off 104 assists. He played in 21 games as a freshman, and finished his career with 114 games played in four seasons. Siddle’s brightest moment in Boiling Springs came in a 95-90, double overtime win vs. Liberty in Paul Porter Arena – when he scored 12 of his career-high 18 points in the two overtime periods to key the victory. Siddle hit a three with 10.0 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, then scored a four points in a five-second flurry at the end of the first overtime to force a final five minutes of play. Two of those game-saving points came on a 17-foot leaner after a stolen inbounds pass with just one second on the clock. Siddle played one postgraduate season at Hargrave Military Academy under Coach Keatts before beginning his playing career at Gardner-Webb and was part of a very successful N.C. Gaters AAU program during his prep career. He starred at Eden Morehead (N.C.) High under Coach John Harder, averaging 27 points, six assists and two steals per game as a senior to earn All-State honors from iHigh.com

ASSISTANT COACH PAUL HEMRICK • 3rd season Paul Hemrick is his first season as an assistant coach with the Runnin’ Bulldogs, after serving at a high level as Director of Basketball Operations for the past two years. Hemrick played an integral role in leading the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a record-setting season in 2012-2013. The Runnin’ Bulldogs posted a 21-13 overall record and finished just a game out of first place in the final Big South Conference regular season standings. After advancing to the Big South Tournament semifinals, GWU made its first NCAA Division I postseason appearance – hosting OVC power Eastern Kentucky in the first round of the 2013 CollegeInsiders.com Postseason Tournament. During his two seasons as Director of Basketball Operations, Hemrick had a hand in all aspects of the program, from administrative duties on a daily basis to overseeing the team’s student managers and responsibilities for all video exchange and editing. His expertise with video was a very important aspect of Gardner-Webb’s scouting success. The John’s Creek, Ga., native comes to Boiling Springs after spending the past two seasons as head varsity men’s basketball coach at Westminster Christian Academy in Watkinsville, Ga. He directed the squad to a 17-8 record in his first season, improving the previous season’s win total by eight games. He directed the Lions to a pair of state tournament appearances and had five players named All-Region in two seasons. Hemrick spent four seasons as a student manager at the University of Georgia from 2005-2009, coordinating film exchange in addition to responsibilities for equipment and filming. Hemrick graduated from Georgia in May, 2009, with a B.A. in Business Administration-Management and a B.S. in Education-Sports Management. Hemrick married former Gardner-Webb volleyball player Melissa Richie in July, 2013.

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS ANDREW TULOWITZKY • 1st season Andrew Tulowitzky is in his first season as Director of Basketball Operations at Gardner-Webb, bringing a strong resume to his new position. Tulowitzky joins the Runnin’ Bulldogs from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he worked as an assistant coach for the past five seasons. In his new role at Gardner-Webb, Tulowitzky will oversee all daily operations, supervise the teams’s managerial staff and head up the video exchange and editing program – as well as other duties as assigned by head coach Tim Craft. Tulowitzky’s time in Atlanta on the bench helped Oglethorpe achieve heavy improvement. The Stormy Petrels won 16 games this past season and posted a combined 46 wins over the previous three seasons. As a player, Tulowitzky was a four-year starter at Oglethorpe, ranking among the top-5 career leaders in several statistical categories. He made 85.8 percent of his free throws over a four-year span, ranking third – and ranks fourth in 3-point shooting percentage and 3-pointers made. He finished his career with 1,149 points and earned first-team All-SCAC honors as a senior. The sharpshooter had a game on January 2, 2007, that saw him drain 11-of-11 shots from the floor and all seven of his 3-point chances – setting school and SCAC records for accuracy. Tulowitzky graduated from Oglethorpe in May, 2007, with a B.S. in business administration.

2013-2014 SEASoN PrEViEW BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb set the bar very high last season, posting its first 20-win season since 2001-02 and the most wins since becoming a full-fledged member of NCAA Division I in 2002-03. The Runnin’ Bulldogs, projected fifth in the six-team South Division by the league’s head coaches and media pool, finished a strong second in that division – just one game out of the top spot in the overall league standings. The team’s late-season run was thrilling, and the crowds in Paul Porter Arena fed off the energy at a steady rate. Gardner-Webb won eight games in a row before the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Conference Tournament semifinals, and lost just three times – twice by a mere three points – after January 23. The ‘Dogs (21-13) finished in the top-200 of the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) for the first time in program history, leading all Big South Conference programs in that key indicator at the end of the regular season – which ended with the team riding a seven-game win streak. GWU ran that streak to eight games with its first Big South tournament win. Gardner-Webb also led the Big South membership in total wins (21), ranked first among league members in the Pomeroy rankings (KenPom.com) and advanced to the Big South Conference Tournament semifinals for the first time since joining the league in 2008-2009. Another interesting point of analysis: Gardner-Webb was literally within reach of a victory each of the 33 times it took the court in 20122013. The Runnin’ Bulldogs lost just three games by more than 10 points, and only one – a competitive, 76-59 loss at No. 11 North Carolina in the season opener – came by more than 15 points. Under first-year head coach Tim Craft, the 2013-14 Gardner-Webb squad has its sights set on finishing the task it crept so close to accomplishing last season – winning the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Conference Tournament and advancing to the program’s first NCAA Tournament. Three starters return from last season’s run, and a healthy, experienced roster will join that trio in pushing Gardner-Webb to reaching its goals – and building on last season’s success.

PoiNt guArD Perhaps no position on the 2013-14 roster is deeper and more experienced than point guard. Incumbent Tyler Strange (5-10, 185, Jr.) is one of the Big South Conference’s most steady floor generals, with 228 assists under his belt

PoiNt guArD tyLEr StrANgE hAS 228 ASSiStS iN tWo SEASoNS. in 46 career starts (64 games played overall). The Leominster, Mass., standout manages the game exceptionally well on the offensive end, and emerged early last season as a gritty defensive presence. Strange, who started for two seasons alongside BCS-caliber recruits at national powerhouse Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., also developed a reliable outside shot as a sophomore, scoring in double figures four times in the season’s final five games and making 11 3-point baskets in that same stretch. Joining Strange at the position this season is transfer Josh Castellanos (6-1, 180, Gr.), who will play his final college season in Boiling Springs after a successful career at Mount St. Mary’s in Maryland. Castellanos played in 81 games for the Mountaineers, starting 49 times and finishing ranked No. 8 in program history in assists per game after three seasons. As a sophomore in 2011-12, Castellanos averaged a solid 8.1 points and 4.6 assists per game. His size and experience should both be tremendous assets for the Runnin’ Bulldogs this season. Jarvis Davis (6-0, 180, RJr.) was a solid

8

contributor off the bench last season, his first after transferring from Conference USA member UCF, and was a microwave-level scorer during Gardner-Webb’s season-ending stretch of wins. Davis’ most lethal effort came at Coastal Carolina on January 16, when he scored eight points on perfect shooting in just nine minutes. The former Hargrave Military (Va.) Academy standout made 27-of-29 free throw attempts as well – and will likely use his shooting touch at both guard positions in 2013-14.

ShootiNg guArD All-Big South Conference guard Tashan Newsome is gone, graduating after leading the team in scoring and hitting a handful of clutch shots during his two seasons with the ‘Dogs. Normally losing such a dynamic scorer would sting considerably, but Gardner-Webb welcomes a smooth, highly-regarded offensive weapon to its lineup in 2013-14 with the addition of Texas A&M transfer Naji Hibbert. Hibbert (6-5, 190, RSr.) was a national-level, four-star recruit out of storied DeMatha Catholic, holding a starting spot in front of 2013 first-round

2013-2014 SEASoN PrEViEW NBA selection Victor Oladipo (Indiana) as a senior with the Stags and sharing a backcourt spot with current Duke standout Quinn Cook on a team that was ranked No. 4 nationally in 2009. Hibbert was a solid contributor during his time in College Station, seeing action in 93 games (nine starts) and averaging 17.5 minutes per appearance. Hibbert averaged a career-high 5.2 points per game during Mark Turgeon’s final season as head coach – helping the Aggies to their second NCAA Tournament appearance and 24 wins. Capable of playing either guard spot or small forward, Hibbert’s versatility, length and scoring ability will be welcomed quickly to the GardnerWebb lineup. The Runnin’ Bulldogs have depth at the position as well, with the previously mentioned Davis capable of sliding over to the two spot, and sharpshooter Isaiah Ivey (6-2, 190, So.) more than ready to take over a larger role on both ends of the court. Ivey, an All-State performer at Scott County (Ky.) High two seasons ago, saw limited duty as a freshman, but has outstanding range on his jumper and was one of the program’s top recruits in 2012.

SMALL forWArD Lingering in the shadows of Newsome and senior forward Kevin Hartley last season, wing forward Donta Harper (6-7, 205, Jr.) more than held his own – bumping his scoring average up by nearly 10 points per game and proving he belonged at the Division I level. A rangy, athletic wing, Harper bulked up in the offseason and grew an inch. His scoring from a year ago (12.7 ppg) earned the Greenville, N.C., native a spot on the preseason All-Big South Conference squad, and positioned him as the face of the program going into his third season. Harper was one of the team’s most effective – and consistent – players throughout the 21-13 campaign and a major reason was his improved production at the free throw line. Harper nailed 120-of-167 shots from there (71.9 percent), after only attempting 59 as a freshman. His rebounding (4.9 rpg), defense (48 steals / 34 blocks) and overall floor game were major reason’s for Gardner-Webb’s ability to make a run at the league crown. Harper will eat many of the minutes slotted for the small forward position, but several players will rotate to that spot when the high-flying

junior needs a breather or moves over to the four should Craft and his staff choose to employ a smaller lineup. Ivey, Hibbert and combo forward Onzie Branch (6-6, 215, Sr.) are each capable of manning the spot - along with newcomer Logan Stumpf (6-6, 210, RFr.), who redshirted last season. Stumpf, a bouncy forward from Harrisburg, Pa., will likely man both forward spots, along with Branch. Sitting out the 2013-14 season is Central Connecticut State transfer Adonis Burbage (6-5, 200, Jr.), who averaged 10.3 points per game as a sophomore for the Blue Devils. The Orlando, Fla., native will pair nicely with Harper on the wing when he becomes eligible in 2014-15.

PoWEr forWArD Gardner-Webb will turn to a combination of men to help offset the loss of standout Kevin Hartley, who was one of the most efficient shooters in the country last season according to statistics analyst Ken Pomeroy. A rising star for the Runnin’ Bulldogs will likely start the season at the four spot, with Jerome Hill (6-5, 210, So.) returning to his natural forward position. Hill performed admirably at the five during his freshman season, turning in several strong performances and effectively guarding much larger players on the interior. An athletic southpaw, Hill is capable of stepping out to mid range, and is very comfortable scoring in the paint or off the dribble. The former Cook County (Ga.) star actually handled the point guard spot for his high school team at times. Hill’s athleticism, toughness and rebounding are obvious strengths - but his scoring should be more of a factor during his second season with the program. Last season, Hill drew an outstanding 45 offensive foul calls when guarding opponents in the paint – with 33 coming in league games. Branch and Stumpf will push Hill for playing time as well, with Branch a sturdy defender at the position. Gardner-Webb added an impact player at the four during the spring signing period, with Tift County (Ga.) High standout Donell Tuff (6-6, 210, Fr.) joining the ‘Dogs. Tuff is an ultra-athletic, powerful forward who will bring an immediate dose of rebounding and shot blocking to the rotation. Tuff’s ability to finish above the rim should pay dividends quickly, and will also likely turn into a regular crowd ignitor in Paul Porter Arena.

2013-2014 SEASoN PrEViEW CENtEr Gardner-Webb has a pair of veteran letter winners with starting experience at the center position in Mike Byron (6-10, 245, Sr.) and Corey Hensley (6-8, 220, Jr.), with Byron finally healthy after an injury-plagued junior campaign. Byron matches up very well with traditional centers, and has a seasoned mix of post moves in his repertoire - and was very effective on both ends as a sophomore in 2011-12. His performances at Butler and Chattanooga (18 points, 13 rebounds) were key in Gardner-Webb’s Hoosier Classic efforts that season. Hensley filled in nicely when called on last season, particularly on the offensive end. The former Enka (N.C.) High star has a nice shooting touch and has shown improvement during the offseason. A name that has created positive buzz since arriving on campus, however, is newcomer Tyrell Nelson (6-7, 235, Fr.), a gifted post prospect who should have an early impact on this Runnin’ Bulldogs team. Nelson starred at nearby Metrolina Christian Academy, earning All-State honors as a senior and averaging more than 20 points per game. Nelson will push his more experienced position mates early for extended minutes. Tuff could also slide over to the five spot defensively on occassion, particulary when matched up against quicker, non-traditional centers.

Per its tradition as a Division I competitor, Gardner-Webb won’t duck any difficulty with its 2013-2014 schedule – opening at Xavier on Friday, November 8 and traveling to face BCS conference foes Missouri (SEC), Northwestern (Big Ten) and Georgia (SEC) – along with a trip to 2014 national title contender Duke (ACC). Add in regional Division I games against Furman (away), Jacksonville (home), Citadel (away), Wofford (home) and Delaware State (away), and the Runnin’ Bulldogs will be battle tested before getting into Big South Conference play at home on January 8 against UNC Asheville. Gardner-Webb will also battle mid-major foes IUPUI and either Morehead State or Chattanooga in Las Vegas on the tail end of the 2013 Las Vegas Invitational during Thanksgiving week.
