2014 Export Promotion Activities Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) commenced 2014 with an aggressive focus on export promotion. The unit, which is responsible for Export Development and Promotion (EDPU) within Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal, in collaboration with other stakeholders successfully facilitated the participation of KwaZulu-Natal companies at four international trade events and two local exhibitions. In total, 36 companies were able to take advantage of these market-access opportunities. The primary focus of the Export Development and Promotion Unit (EDPU) of Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal is to provide assistance to exporters and facilitate market access for KwaZulu-Natal traders to new markets. Our operational activities include the facilitation of trade missions, planning for exhibitions, the implementation of training programmes and the provisioning of export related advice. International markets accessed in 2014 include India, the UAE (Dubai), Mozambique, and Zambia (Ndola). The two local events facilitated were Source Africa and Saitex where KwaZulu-Natal companies hoping to expand their markets were exposed to international buyers and international exhibitors.

On the export development side, we offer quality enterprise development programmes to established exporters, utilising the services of local and international experts. This quarterly programme consists of one daylong theory presentations to company representatives. This is followed by three days of on-site follow up training with the attending companies. Typical exportrelated topics of identifying markets, desktop and market research, INCO terms, letters of credit, the export cycle and the sales contract are covered during the theory presentations. The theory covered is then applied during the subsequent on-site visits.
