DPWorld, a leading provider of worldwide, smart, end-to-end supply chain solutions company, has strengthened its commitment to wildlife conservation efforts at the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR). Recognizing the critical need to protect the reserve’s 93 tigers and support the larger population of over 150 tigers in the TATR, DP World has partnered with TATR management for implementing a pioneering AI-based virtual wall and human-animal conflict mitigation system (HACMS). These efforts are part of a broader initiative that includes the provision of advanced fire protection equipment and the installation of AI cameras in three buffer villages surrounding the reserve. This innovative approach
not only aims to secure the habitats of these magnificent creatures but is also a testament to DP World’s commitment to its partner TATR in fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife, making a lasting impact on the region’s biodiversity.
Tadoba National Park, the oldest and largest in the state of Maharashtra, spans approximately 1,727 square kilometers, with around 625 square kilometers designated as critical tiger habitat(core) and about 1,101 square kilometers serving as a buffer area. This reserve is celebrated for having the fastest-growing tiger population in India, making it a crucial stronghold for these magnificent big cats. Beyond tigers, Tadoba boasts a rich tapestry
of wildlife, including leopards, wild pigs, sambar, chital, wild dogs, sloth bears, and a variety of bird species.
DP World has actively supported the implementation of the Human-Animal Conflict Mitigation System (HACMS), an advanced technology with cloudbased infrastructure for real-time data transmission and analysis. This technology was highlighted by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his “Mann Ki Baat” program. A standout feature is its predictive analytics, which monitors wildlife behavior and sends early warnings of tigers, bears, and leopards nearing villages, thereby reducing the risk of attacks on humans and livestock. The system triggers a series of alerts, including hooters at village poles, mobile notifications to forest officials, and public address announcements, ensuring timely communication and preventing dangerous encounters. This comprehensive alert mechanism enhances the safety of both humans and wildlife.
Furthermore, to enhance TATR’s firefighting capabilities, DP World has equipped rangers with the necessary tools – including a fire truck, swiftmoving mini fire tender, and 10 high-performance fire blowers - to effectively combat forest fires and protect the delicate balance of the reserve.
In 2022, DP World made a significant contribution to the TATR by providing two patrolling vehicles to the Conservation Foundation, greatly enhancing the safety and efficiency of forest patrols. Last year, DP World also provided TATR with thermal drones which has significantly boosted the reserve’s surveillance capabilities by enabling real-time monitoring of wildlife and habitats. This technology
has proven to be a cost-effective and non-invasive alternative to traditional methods.
Dr. Jitendra Ramgaokar, IFS Field Director, TATR and Executive Director TATR Conservation Foundation, said, “DP World has greatly enhanced human-wildlife coexistence through their support of the Human-Animal Conflict Mitigation System (HACMS). This innovative technology leverages AI and computer vision to protect local communities from wildlife threats. Their provision of advanced fire protection equipment and AI cameras further supports our conservation efforts, safeguarding both forests and animals. This initiative is a testament to the power of AI for social good and sets a new benchmark in digital innovation for wildlife conservation.”
Talking about the initiative, Mr. Kevin D’Souza, Senior Vice President - Business Development, Middle East, North Africa, and Subcontinent, DP World, said, “We are steadfast in our commitment to supporting the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, continually reinforcing our partnership to protect the forest from wildfires and man-wildlife conflicts. By safeguarding this crucial natural habitat, we are not only preserving its ecological value but also enhancing the safety and well-being of the forest staff and the local communities in the buffer zone.”
DP World is part of an industry task force led by “United for Wildlife”, which partners with key stakeholders to tackle unlawful wildlife trade. DP World has signed 11 commitments, including stopping the transportation and trade of illegal wildlife products.

Swiss marine power company WinGD has successfully completed type approval and factory acceptance testing for its X52-S2.0 engine, bringing a new option to shipowners in need of compact, medium-bore two-stroke engines. The tests at Yuchai Marine Power Co (YCMP) confirmed the engine’s performance and compliance, while the prototype project validated its ease of assembly and maintenance.
The X S series succeeds the well-established RT flex50 and RT flex58 engines and is available in 52cm and 62cm bore sizes, with confirmed orders already for diesel, LNG and methanol configurations and an ammonia fuel option under development. The combination of small footprint and best in class fuel efficiency – around 10g/kWh lower than equivalent RT flex engines, a saving of around 4% depending on operating profile – make the new platform ideal for vessels requiring a compact, medium-bore solution.
WinGD Head of Global Testing & Validation, Sotiris Topaloglou said: “The recent test campaign of this newest X-S engine has confirmed that this series delivers exceptional fuel efficiency and emissions performance. We’re proud of the innovations that have enabled this performance. The footprint

reduction will drive cost efficiencies while the new concept dramatically simplifies engine construction, installation, maintenance and service. Completing this prototyping and testing phase so efficiently was only possible thanks to our strong partnership with YCMP.”
The X-S series highlights WinGD’s unique approach to engine development, focused on close collaboration with engine builders like YCMP and with innovation rooted in proven technologies. The X-S, for example, uses key components with robust supply chains already well-established across WinGD’s engine portfolio, while drawing on modern engineering and design innovations to reduce the
size and footprint while simplifying the maintenance of those components and the overall engine.
The type approval tests followed similar successful tests for the larger X62-S2.0 engine at Dalian Marine Diesel in April. The first order for the X52-S2.0 was received in February 2023 followed by a second order with iSCR, WinGD’s on-engine NOx abatement solution, in July that year.
Mr Tilak Raj Dua, Director General of the
Digital Infrastructure
Providers
Association (DIPA), expresses his thoughts on the upcoming budget for 20242025, saying, “The DIPA urges the government to prioritise policies that will accelerate the development of robust digital infrastructure across India.” Our country’s digital future is dependent on the rapid expansion of telecom networks, particularly 5G, and improved rural connection.”
He focuses on the following important measures.
1. We advocate for the extension of the Input Tax Credit for telecom towers under the GST regime. This crucial reform will drastically lower costs for infrastructure providers while eventually benefiting consumers.
2. Furthermore, we urge clarification on the eligibility of relevant infrastructure and accessories for Input Tax Credit, as the current ambiguity is causing significant financial risk for the industry
3. The establishment of industrial power prices for telecom infrastructure in all states is critical. This might cut operational expenses by up to 20% while freeing up resources for network expansion
4. We also urge for the nationwide implementation of Green Energy Open Access policies, which would
help us achieve both our sustainability aims and cost-cutting initiatives
5. DIPA strongly advocates for the speedy implementation of the modified Right of Way (RoW) rules in all states and union territories. This standardisation is critical for accelerating infrastructure deployment and lowering bureaucratic barriers.
6. Finally, as we await the final telecom rules under the new Telecommunications Act 2023, we ask for clear guidance on the definition of telecommunication networks, equitable RoW awards, and the separation of telecom infrastructure from property issues
He summarised: “These measures are critical for creating conducive environment for digital infrastructure growth, ultimately supporting India’s digital transformation and economic progress.”

In the 1970s, a young visionary, Mr J Ramachandran, couldn’t bear the hopelessness of India’s educated youth slipping into sadness owing to a lack of jobs and condemning themselves for forgetting they were educated.
His response to this problem was to establish the NAESEY (New Era Association of Educated Self Employed Youth, a voluntary organisation) and supplement the government job exchanges with MSMEs. With NAESEY Self-employment projects, he generated job and business prospects for thousands of educated unemployed youngsters, as well as thousands more indirectly.
In 1993, he founded the Academy for Maritime Education and Training as an alternative to the existing educational system, believing that it should complement rather than compete. The main objective was to persuade the youth of the value of casting a net in unfished waters while everyone else was fishing in the same old waters.
He made India proud by transforming AMET into India’s first maritime deemed to be university—the CRISIL-rated, ISO-certified AMET, founded under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956.
Dr Ramachandran’s persistent appetite for quality professional education was not confined to marine education, but also included medical education. Under the auspices of the Saraswathi Ammal Educational and Charitable Trust, he established a 550-bed hospital and Medical College in Hapur, a socially backward area in the state of Uttar Pradesh where access to immediate medical care is considered a nightmare for the people who live in and around the region. The Hospital is outfitted with sophisticated infrastructure and staffed by highly qualified medical specialists, providing all medical services to the needy.
His efforts have earned him numerous national and international awards, including the Times of India’s Edupreneur of the Year in 2013 and the Award of Excellence established by the National Maritime Day Committee, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India in recognition of his lifetime exceptional achievements in the Indian maritime industry, to name a few. York St John’s University awarded him a Doctorate degree (Honoris Causa) for the unwavering empowerment activities he has been leading as the founder of NAESEY, for which he has become a metaphor and is better known as NAESEY J. Ramachandran.

Ship management companies that run specific pre-sea training institutions are uncommon, but they provide shipowners with the certainty of a consistent supply of highly qualified seafarers to manage their vessels. When the whole officer pool comes from the same prestigious academy, the advantages are much larger. For the first time in 15 years, an Anglo-Eastern-managed vessel, the MV Federal Clyde, is totally staffed by AngloEastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) officer graduates. This exceptional result in the industry demonstrates the company’s dedication to training, which is paying off with an everincreasing ability to produce strong performance on both technical and crewing levels.
Established in 2009 in Karjat, India, AEMA is dedicated to educating and training future seafarers to the best standards, assuring a consistent supply of cadets for dependable ship management services. The award-winning AEMA programme provides cadets with current industry knowledge, operational skills, and soft skills. The institute’s advanced teaching facilities include a large mechanical workshop, state-of-theart simulators, virtual reality, and game-based e-learning. The academy’s professors include seasoned former masters and chief engineers who are still actively engaged in the sector.
AEMA has trained a total of 5,935 cadets: 3,160 deck cadets with a Diploma in Nautical Science, 2,240 Graduate Mechanical Engineers (GMEs), and 535 Electro-Technical Officers (ETOs) in 15 batches.
Having a complete complement of AEMA officers provides a consistent strategy, a high-quality skill set, and the ability to mobilise swiftly and efficiently in the event of an emergency at sea. This milestone demonstrates Anglo-Eastern’s commitment to developing maritime skills and establishing industry standards.
Anglo-Eastern chairman Peter Cremers stated, “This achievement is a tremendous milestone for Anglo-Eastern as well as for me personally. Training was a fundamental component of my vision when we founded AEMA all those years ago. I believed then, and continue to feel now, that ship managers like ourselves have a responsibility to help our seafarers enhance their talents. This ensures a specific level of excellence in our sector and for our clients. I just hope that others notice this and invest like we have.”
“Fednav has supported Anglo-Eastern’s in-house academy from its inception. Anglo-Eastern’s ability to attract excellent talent and teach them according to criteria far surpassing industry standards, in line with our specific needs and expectations, and to provide young professionals with outstanding knowledge, tools, and abilities is truly fantastic. “We are very excited to follow the career progression of AEMA alumni,” said Martin Krafft, vice president fleet management at Fednav.
Tejinder P. S. Bhamra, principal of AEMA, said, “The news of M.V. Federal Clyde being staffed by AEMA alumni thrills us with delight and pride. This achievement is the culmination of our arduous
work and underscores our dedication to developing world-class marine professionals.”
Capt. Danish Joseph stated, “It is an honour to lead the M.V. Federal Clyde team, which was forged in AEMA’s prestigious classrooms.” This accomplishment exemplifies the academy’s commitment to excellence and the spirit of its cadets. As we design our course, we continue on our alma mater’s legacy, driven by enthusiasm and camaraderie. Together, we shall face difficulties and achievements, inspiring future generations of AEMA leaders. We are proud to show what well-trained mariners can accomplish, and I am grateful for the cooperation of AEMA, Anglo-Eastern, and Fednav.”
Anglo-Eastern achieved this significant milestone as a result of a sustained, strategic, and thoughtful investment in providing in-depth, quality, handson training through AEMA and its various training centres, with this vessel expected to be the first of many to benefit from these initiatives. This achievement exemplifies the company’s dedication to creating a better marine future for its employees and communities.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels, along with the Iranian-backed Iraqi militia known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, have claimed credit for a coordinated military assault targeting four vessels at Israel’s Haifa port. The action was apparently in response to an Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis, which killed at least 90 Palestinians and injured 300 others, according to Gaza Health Ministry reports.
Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesperson, said that the group used ballistic missiles and drones to target the Israeli vessel MSC UNIFIC in the Gulf of Aden. In addition, the organisation conducted drone attacks on military sites in Eilat. These attacks are part of a larger campaign of drone and missile strikes by the Houthis in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, which began in November. The Houthis claim that their strikes are a show of solidarity with Palestinians suffering by Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The recent wave of Houthi attacks has caused considerable interruptions to international maritime channels. The organisation has sunk two ships, seized another, and claimed the lives of at least three sailors. These aggressive activities endanger maritime security and the safety of international ships on these critical waterways.
Separately, the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) stated that its forces had successfully destroyed three Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen. These UAVs were judged a direct threat to US and coalition forces, as well as merchant vessels operating in the area. The activities of the United States Central Command are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard freedom of navigation while also improving the safety and security of international seas.
