The Bow Horne Bay Community Club is happy to bring you the 44th Annual Lighthouse Country Fall Fair on the grounds of the Lighthouse Community Centre. We have something for everyone so come out and enjoy the day.
What would the fair be without our fabulous pet and bike parade led by Daisy Cow and Farmer Vicky. The always popular British Car Club will again be in attendance displaying their classic vehicles in the upper field.

Stroll the open air market for great finds from our varied local vendors and artists. We are working hard to get the Dog Agility show back and the model airplanes soaring overhead, visit the chainsaw carvers in the upper field and watch them turn a cedar log into a work of art. The day has ongoing entertainment for kids, FREE petting zoo, pony rides, bouncy castle and organized games all geared to keep young fair goers happily entertained. We have a professional photographer to take photos and email digital copies to you so be sure and stop by and get your FREE photo. The photographer will also be available at 3:00pm at the outdoor stage to take photos of the winning exhibitors displaying their ribbons. THE INDOOR ARTISANS HALL will be full of local artists and artisans in the Lions Hall displaying and selling their fabulous works of art along with music by local musicians. The exhibit hall stage will have ongoing demos featuring local dancers, singers and more. Our Outdoor stage Manager is busy cooking up a wonderful variety of local talent for you to sit and listen to or get your feet tapping. BARDO – the glove-trained barred owl will once again make an appearance and educate you about these beautiful raptors. He is used in the wildlife education program at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Assoc. in Errington.
SEE YOU AT THE FAIR!

Bring in your entries on The Bow Horne Bay Community Club encompasses the communities of Lighthouse Country-Bowser,Horne Lake, Qualicum Bay and Deep Bay and has been going strong since 1970. Our primary projects include the Annual Fall Fair, the Mother’s Day Hanging Basket Sale, Trivia Night and the Lighthouse Country Garden Tour and Strawberry Tea. Funds raised through these events are donated for improvements to Your Community Hall, two Scholarships, The Bowser Foodbank, as well as other Emergency Needs that may occur in our communities. We welcome new members at any time, so please call Patricia McLean at 250-757-8806 to become more involved with the Community Club. BRING IN YOUR ENTRIES TO THE 44TH ANNUAL FALL FAIR ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 29th – 1PM – 5:30PM
CONTINUE THE TRADITION
Celebrate the 44th Annual Lighthouse
Country Fall Fair May has arrived and it is time to start planning your entries for the 44th Annual Lighthouse Country Fall Fair. Whether it be the Best Tomatoes, the Perfect Peach, the tastiest baking or something in the many other categories in our guide, we look forward to displaying and sharing your creations and perhaps inspiring others to create and take up rewarding pastimes. We would also like to thank our local businesses for their support to help fund this community family event, enabling us to keep our admission fees down and maintain our mandate to keep the children’s activities FREE for all kids. We are sure you will enjoy the local talent on the main stage and the demos and entertainers on the inside stage as well as the varied vendors and artists throughout the grounds and in the Artists Hall. SO, plan your entries now, be part of this community event and perhaps win a prize, a coveted ribbon or trophy and especially the “bragging rights”. The current Board of Directors are busy planning to make the fair even more enjoyable this year.

Did you know? The tallest sunflower was 8.23 m (27 ft) tall when measured in Kaarst, Germany on September 4, 2012. Sunflowers need full sun; 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day – the more the better if you are trying to grow them to their maximum potential.
The world’s largest patchwork quilt measured 25,100 sq. m (270,174 sq. ft) and is called Manta da Cultura (Patchwork for Culture). The project was carried out in Porto, Portugal and completed on June 18, 2000. The largest patchwork quilt ever made in Canada is called The Quilt of Belonging. The 120-foot (37 m) long by 10.5 foot (3.2 m) high (36 metres by 3.5 metres) tapestry portrays the cultural legacies of Canada’s First Peoples and of every nation in the world, since all are part of Canada’s social fabric. The zipper was designed in 1893 by Whitcomb
Judson to end the tedium of buttoning shoes and boots. It was soon adapted for skirts and trousers.

In 18th century France, Joseph-Marie Jacquard invented the first automatic loom which used punch cards to create complex, precise patterns in fabric. Many people regard this invention as the first step toward the development of computer technology.
