DSDN171: DESIGN IN CONTEXT Tri 2, 2010
blog assignment 7 due: 23.00, Sunday, 19 September
brief: Kaupapa Maori design 1. In our guest lecture this week, “Kaupapa Maori Design” Tracey Gardner discussed her research into the different meanings, requirements, and methods of Kaupapa Maori design and the necessity of finding pathways to combine this framework with the ‘universalising’ paradigm of Modernist design. Importantly this investigation allowed Tracey to better understand her own viewpoint and cultural background as a designer. Considering this question of ‘worldview’ and ‘cultural context’ respond to the following question (approximately 100 - 200 words, as needed):
Who are you as a designer? In what ways does your unique background—culture, religion, sex, nationality, etc.—inform your approach as a designer? 2. Post your response in your DSDN171 blog (with an image if appropriate—not required. But if you use an image, be sure to address this image in your response.) 3. Be sure to post your response on or before the 23.00 Sunday deadline.
