A communal pig pen with 6 individual stalls for 6 different families or groups to raise their pigs in Located in a secure site that is maintained by the local agricultural association Located 2 minutes away from the center of town by bus Built with materials that are easy to maintain and easy to clean Provides constant supply of water for the animals and the security of light at night to ward of pests Connected to a septic tank to maintain sanitary conditions
Pig Pen as an educational site
• Aprofe will include trips to the pig pen as part of their educational community projects • Aprofe will encourage teachers to take their students on field trips to the site during science class • In addition to engaging students from Puerto el Morro, Aprofe will be able to bring people from other towns that have a similar or worse condition with pigs being raised in town Flexible Design
• The structure was designed so that the bamboo pieces can be easily removed and replaced • The structure can be rebuilt and used as a model in other places as more people buy into the idea • The same structure can be used to house goats and start a cheese and goat products business with other members of Tierra Fertil
