Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan‬‬ ‫‪Al Nahyan.‬‬ ‫‪Who knew that his vision would soon turn into a reality? Who knew that Emirati Women‬‬ ‫?‪would shortly become role models for the world in breaking life barriers‬‬ ‫‪Yes, Emirati women today proved to the entire world that they could reach higher‬‬ ‫‪positions than men in the country. Despite gender, culture, and family barriers, they‬‬ ‫‪decided to put an end to the society’s stereotypes through fearlessly choosing‬‬ ‫‪scientific, artistic, and unusual careers.‬‬ ‫‪We are a group of seven senior students studying Corporate Communication‬‬ ‫‪who are passionate about the achievements of Emirati women. We are very‬‬ ‫‪pleased to leave within your hands this booklet to give a glimpse of the first Emirati‬‬ ‫‪women in several professions and celebrate their success. We are introducing‬‬ ‫‪several Emirati women who broke barriers to become the first females in several‬‬ ‫‪professions to show that Emirati women are intellectually, psychologically and‬‬ ‫‪socially qualified to contribute to the development of the country.‬‬ ‫‪We know this work does not include every first woman in all professions and we‬‬ ‫‪would like to ask those whom we failed to mention to pardon us for our shortcoming.‬‬ ‫‪Together, we will celebrate making our late Shaikh Zayed’s dream come true.‬‬ ‫‪Together, we will make history with successful stories of Emirati Women who have‬‬ ‫‪done the impossible for our beloved UAE.‬‬ ‫‪Enjoy reading.‬‬ ‫‪Year 4 Corporate Communication students‬‬

‫انتلاسر‬ ‫نقــف اليــوم‪ ،‬وبــكل فخــر‪ ،‬بجانــب المــرأة اإلماراتيــة التــي ألهمــت الكثيريــن بإنجازاتهــا‪ ،‬والتــي‬ ‫حققــت مــا كان فــي الماضــي مجــرد رؤيــة ألعظــم القــادة وأب الجميــع الراحــل الشــيخ زايــد بــن‬ ‫ســلطان آل نهيــان رحمــة اهلل‪.‬‬ ‫فمــن منــا كان يعلــم أن رؤيتــه الثاقبــة ســتتحقق علــى أرض الواقــع؟ مــن كان يعلــم أن المــرأة‬ ‫اإلماراتيــة ســتصبح وفــي وقــت قصيــر مثــاال يقتــدي بــه العالــم فــي تخطــي الحواجــز؟‬ ‫لقــد اســتطاعت المــرأة اإلماراتيــة أن تثبــت للعالــم أجمــع بأنهــا قــادرة علــى أن تصــل ألعلــى‬ ‫المراتــب‪ ،‬فبالرغــم مــن العراقيــل المتمثلــة فــي اختــاف نــوع الجنــس وثقافــة المجتمــع والعائلــة‬ ‫قــررت المــرأة اإلماراتيــة أن تضــع حــدا للفكــر النمطــي الشــائع الــذي رســم صــورة وحيــدة الجانــب‬ ‫للمــرأة‪ ،‬فعلــت ذلــك بجــرأة مــن خــال اختيــار مهــن غيــر نمطيــة وغيــر ســائدة فــي عالــم المــرأة‪،‬‬ ‫ومــن خــال ارتيــاد آفــاق جديــدة متعــددة كالعلــوم والفنــون وغيرهــا‪.‬‬ ‫نحــن مجموعــة مــن ســبع طالبــات فــي مرحلــة التخــرج مــن قســم االتصــال المؤسســي يملؤهــن‬ ‫الحمــاس اتجــاه إنجــازات المــرأة اإلماراتيــة وبالــغ الســرور لوضــع هــذا الكتيــب الــذي يــؤرخ‬ ‫لقصــص الريــادة والتفــوق‪ ،‬ويتضمــن أســماء الرائــدات اإلماراتيــات فــي مهــن مختلفــة تمتهنهــا‬ ‫المــرأة للمــرة األولــى‪ ،‬وذلــك احتفــاء بهــن‪ .‬فــي هــذا الكتيــب‪ ،‬نقــدم لكــم العديــد مــن النســاء‬ ‫اإلماراتيــات اللواتــي اجتــزن الحواجــز ليصبحــن الرائــدات فــي مجــاالت مهنيــة متعــددة‪ ،‬وذلــك إلثبــات أن‬ ‫المــرأة اإلماراتيــة متمكنــة وتمتلــك القــدرات الفكريــة النفســية واالجتماعيــة للمســاهمة وأخــذ دور‬ ‫فعــال فــي مســيرة تطويــر ورفعــة الدولــة‪.‬‬ ‫و نــود أن ننــوه هنــا بأننــا علــى درايــة تامــة بــأن هــذا العمــل المتواضــع ليــس اســتقصاء ضــم أســماء‬ ‫الرائــدات فــي جميــع المجــاالت؛ ولذلــك فنحــن نعتــذر للجميــع ممــن لــم يتــم ذكرهــن علــى‬ ‫هــذا التقصيــر‪ ،‬فالقائمــة ال بــد طويلــة ونرجــو أن يكــون كتيبنــا هــذا مقدمــة تســتنهض همــم‬ ‫المؤرخيــن والمهتميــن بعلــوم المجتمــع لمزيــد مــن التوثيــق واالســتقصاء‪.‬‬ ‫معــا‪ ،‬نحتفــي بإنجــازات المــرأة اإلماراتيــة لتحقيــق حلــم المغفــور لــه الشــيخ زايــد بــن ســلطان آل‬ ‫نهيــان‪.‬‬ ‫معــا‪ ،‬ســنطبع بصمــة فــي ســجل التاريــخ ممهــورة بنجاحــات المــرأة اإلماراتيــة التــي قدمــت الغالــي‬ ‫والنفيــس لدولتنــا الحبيبــة‪.‬‬ ‫نرجو أن ينال الكتيب إعجابكم‬ ‫طالبات السنة الرابعة في قسم االتصال المؤسساتي‬

‫أول وزيرة‬ ‫ســمو الشــيخة لبنــى القاســمي أول امــرأة‬ ‫تشــغل منصــب وزيــرة فــي دولــة اإلمــارات‬ ‫العربيــة المتحــدة‪ .‬بــدأت حياتهــا المهنيــة‬ ‫فــي هــذا المجــال كوزيــرة لالقتصــاد‬ ‫والتخطيــط‪ ،‬وتشــغل حاليــا منصــب وزيــرة‬ ‫التجــارة الخارجيــة‪ .‬حصلــت الشــيخة لبنــى‬ ‫علــى «جائــزة الموظــف الحكومــي المتميــز»‬ ‫عــام ‪ ،1999‬وعينــت بمنصــب الرئيــس‬ ‫التنفيــذي لمؤسســة تجــاري؛ أول ســوق‬ ‫تجاريــة إلكترونيــة فــي الشــرق األوســط‪.‬‬ ‫وقــد أثبتــت نجاحهــا كامــرأة إماراتيــة فــي‬ ‫حياتهــا العمليــة مــن خــال المســؤوليات‬ ‫التــي عهــدت إليهــا مثــل القيــام بــأدوار فــي‬ ‫مجلــس إدارة غرفــة تجــارة وصناعــة دبــي‪،‬‬

‫‪First Minister‬‬ ‫‪Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi is the first‬‬ ‫‪woman to hold a ministerial post in the‬‬ ‫‪UAE. She started as the Minister of Eco‬‬‫‪nomic and Planning and is currently‬‬ ‫‪the Minister of Foreign Trade. Al Qasimi‬‬ ‫‪was awarded the “Distinguished Gov‬‬‫‪ernment Employee Award” in 1999 and‬‬ ‫‪was appointed as the Chief Executive‬‬ ‫‪of Tejari, the first Middle Eastern Business‬‬ ‫‪-to-Business Market place. She success‬‬‫‪fully proved herself through other re‬‬‫‪sponsibilities such as taking a role in the‬‬ ‫‪Board of Directors for Dubai Chamber‬‬ ‫‪of Commerce and Industry, Dubai Uni‬‬‫‪versity, Dubai Autism Center, Simsari.‬‬ ‫‪com, and National U.S. Arab Chamber‬‬ ‫‪of Commerce. H.E. Shaikha Najla Al Qasimi is the first Emirati female Ambassador to Sweden since 2008. Her highness holds a BA from UAE University in Political Science. She worked in several government positions such as the UAE mission to the UN in Geneva Switzerland, and the U.S. Desk Officer for the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi. “Now it’s time for women to prove themselves and show that they are capable of working professionally and effectively and compete in the market. The support of the UAE leadership creates the right opportunities for Emirati women to make their presence felt,”she said.

First FNC Session Moderator Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, is the first Emirati woman to lead a session of the UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC), when she acted on behalf of speaker Mohammed Al Murr. Al Qubaisi is a former architect. She worked on conserving and archiving remarkable heritage spots in the country. Her presence at the FNC is notable with concentration on education and youth issues. Her Excellency Al Awadhi is the first Emirati and Arab woman to occupy a position as a chief executive in a state managed media organization. She also served as a Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI). She was among the first Emirati woman to become members of the Federal National Council and carried the merit as the youngest parlia-mentarian in the UAE. Al Awadhi is a graduate of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. During her four year parliament span, she contributed to Education, Media, Youth and Culture Committee and established the Parliamentary Steering Committee to create a plan to im-prove the efficiency of the Parliament’s processes.

‫أول مطربة إماراتية‬ ‫تعــد مــوزة ســعيد أول مطربــة إماراتيــة‬ ‫دخلــت ســاحة الغنــاء الفنــي فــي اإلمــارات‬ ‫فــي أوائــل الســتينيات‪ .‬بــدأت مســيرتها‬ ‫الفنيــة فــي البحريــن تحــت اســم مســتعار‬ ‫هــو رجــاء عبــده نظــرا ً لترددهــا فــي دخــول‬ ‫هــذا المجــال فــي اإلمــارات وخوفــا ً مــن‬ ‫قيــود العــادات والتقاليــد وغضــب المجتمــع‪.‬‬ ‫تزوجــت وانتقلــت للعيــش فــي البحريــن‬ ‫حيــث فتحــت الطريــق أمامهــا لتصبــح‬ ‫أول مطربــة خليجيــة وإماراتيــة‪ .‬زارت مــن‬ ‫بعدهــا عــدة دول خليجيــة لتغنــي فيهــا‬ ‫ومنهــا الكويــت حيــث تــم تســجيل بعــض‬ ‫أغانيهــا هنــاك‪.‬‬

‫مــن التــراث اليمنــي وكانــت أغنيــة 'ســألت‬ ‫العيــن' اليمنيــة بوابــة الشــهرة لهــذه‬ ‫الفنانــة‪ ،‬وربمــا هــو أحــد األســباب التــي تدفــع‬ ‫البعــض لالعتقــاد بأنهــا يمنيــة األصــل‪ .‬وفــي‬ ‫بحــث أجــراه الباحــث الموســيقي اإلماراتــي‬ ‫عيــد الفــرج أكــد أنهــا إماراتيــة األصــل ‪.‬‬

‫اســتوحت مــوزة ســعيد فــي أغانيهــا الكثيــر‬

‫‪First Emirati Singer‬‬ ‫‪Moza Saeed is the first Emirati female‬‬ ‫‪singer who entered this field in the‬‬ ‫‪1960s. She started her journey in Bahrain‬‬ ‫‪using the nickname Rajaa Abduo as‬‬ ‫‪she was concerned about Gulf tradi‬‬‫‪tions and the response of the commu‬‬‫‪nity. She moved to live in Bahrain where‬‬ ‫‪she married and had the opportunity‬‬ ‫‪to officially be the first Emirati and Gulf‬‬ ‫‪female singer. Since then, she visited‬‬ ‫‪a number of Gulf countries where she‬‬ ‫‪performed to the public. She record‬‬‫‪ed some of her famous songs in Kuwait.‬‬ ‫‪Saeed was highly inspired by the‬‬ ‫‪Yemeni traditional songs such as the‬‬ ‫‪popular song Sa’alt Al Ain which she‬‬ ‫‪re-recorded and was that was the gate‬‬ ‫‪to fame. This is probably why some‬‬ ‫‪assumed she was a Yemeni artist.‬‬ ‫‪Emirati musician Eid Al Faraj confirmed‬‬ ‫‪10‬‬

‫أول متخصصة في العلوم النووية‬ ‫أمانــي الحوســني أول عالمــة نوويــة إماراتيــة‬ ‫حصلــت علــى درجــة الماجســتير مــن جامعــة‬ ‫خليفــة‪ .‬أم لطفليــن‪ ،‬لــم يقــف ذلــك عائقــا‬ ‫أمــام طموحاتهــا فــي الســعي فــي طريــق‬ ‫العلــم‪ ،‬تقــول‪« :‬ليــس علــى المــرأة أن‬ ‫تكــون خارقــة لتكــون أمــا وعالمــة نوويــة»‪.‬‬ ‫وتضيــف « إنــه عمــل وكل مــا عليــك هــو‬ ‫أن تحــب العلــم وتكــون متحمســا لــه‪».‬‬ ‫بــدأت رحلتهــا العلميــة عندمــا درســت‬ ‫الهندســهةالكيميائية فــي جامعــة اإلمــارات‬ ‫العربيــة المتحــدة ومــن ثــم عملــت فــي‬ ‫حقــول النفــط البريــة مــع شــركة أبوظبــي‬ ‫للعمليــات البريــة البتروليــة‪ .‬شــجعت أمانــي‬ ‫المــرأة اإلماراتيــة علــى أن تعمــل فــي العلــم‬ ‫وتــراه مهنــة لهــا مــن زاويــة مختلفــة‪.‬‬

‫‪First Nuclear Scientist‬‬ ‫‪Amani Al Hosani is the first Emirati‬‬ ‫‪female nuclear scientist who gained‬‬ ‫‪her master’s degree from Khalifa‬‬ ‫‪University. Athough she is a mother‬‬ ‫‪of two, her passion for science con‬‬‫‪tinued to grow. “You do not have‬‬ ‫‪to be a superwoman to be amother‬‬ ‫‪and nuclear scientist. It is a job and‬‬ ‫‪all you need is to love science‬‬ ‫‪and be passionate about it”. Al‬‬ ‫‪Hosani’s scientific journey began‬‬ ‫‪when she studied chemical engin‬‬‫‪eering at the UAE University and then‬‬ ‫‪worked on onshore oilfields with‬‬ ‫‪the Abu Dhabi Company for On‬‬‫‪shore Oil Operations. She helped‬‬ ‫‪Emirati women see careers in science‬‬ ‫‪from a different perspective.‬‬

‫أول رافعة أثقال‬ ‫آمنــة الحــداد أول رياضيــة فــي رفــع األثقــال‬ ‫فــي اإلمــارات ودول مجلــس التعــاون‬ ‫الخليجــي‪ .‬بــدأت مســيرتها فــي رفــع األثقــال‬ ‫وعمرهــا ســبعة عشــر عامــا‪ .‬تتمنــى أن‬ ‫تلهــم النســاء األخريــات وتشــجعهن علــى‬ ‫اتبــاع أســلوب حيــاة حيــوي‪ .‬تقــول ‪“ :‬مــا‬ ‫أرجــوه مــن مشــاركتي فــي هــذه الرياضــة‬ ‫هــو أن تكــون تشــجيعا للنســاء لمشــاركة‬ ‫المزيــد منهــن فــي مثــل هــذه الرياضــات‪،‬‬ ‫وتطبيقهــا فــي إطــار مــن االلتــزام الدينــي‬ ‫واالجتماعــي فــي الوقــت ذاتــه‪”.‬‬

‫‪First Weightlifter‬‬ ‫‪Amna Al Haddad is the first Emirati‬‬ ‫‪woman and GCC national weightlifter‬‬ ‫‪who began her weightlifting journey‬‬ ‫‪at the age of 17. In 2004, Lt Col al Jaberi joined the police college and became the first female lecturer in a place that is commonly known to be dominated by men. Eman is also considered the first Emirati female investigation officer. Rawda Abdulla Al Mutawa is the first Emirati teacher in the country and the first Emirati woman to drive a car. Al Mutawa demonstrated her accomplishments in various fields awarding her the honor of working with the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Shaikha Fatma bint Mubarak. She grew up among an educated family. Her father and grandparents were educated and worked in Sharia legislation. In 1965, she was allocated to work in Al Maaref School in Ras Al Khaimah, becoming the first Emirati female teacher in the country. Al Mutawa continued her path as an educator until 1970.

Captain Aysha Al Hamli is the first Emirati female pilot. Her first experience piloting a plane was at the age of 16 with her father who encouraged her to pursue her dream of becoming a pilot. She received her certified flight instructor and certified flight instrument instructor accreditations from the Royal Jordanian Air Academy in 2001. Al Hamli also completed pilot training courses like the Young Ambassadors Program in the US and United Nations System’s testing in Geneva. She struggled to find a job because she was young and inexperienced so she decided to put her career on hold and study social and behavioral sciences at Zayed University. Shaima Al Sayed is the first national woman in the comedy circuit stand up act. She earned‬‬ ‫‪her position by having extra working‬‬ ‫‪hours and even night shifts. “I am‬‬ ‫‪always open to challenges and I am‬‬ ‫‪not afraid to take risks. First Crime Scene Investigator Mariam Abdullah Khalaf is the first Emirati woman to become a member of the fire-arms and tools examination section at Dubai’s criminal investigation department. Khalaf graduated with a degree in chemistry from UAE University in Al- Ain where she cooperated with her colleagues in detecting and solving 20 criminal cases in Dubai. ‫‪First Orthopedic Doctor and Surgeon‬‬ ‫‪Moza Sultan Obaid Al Kaabi is the first‬‬ ‫‪Emirati female doctor and surgeon‬‬ ‫‪specialized in bones disorders. After‬‬ ‫‪2002, she started her educational‬‬ ‫‪journey in Scotland and then moved‬‬ ‫‪to London to graduate with a bachelor‬‬ ‫‪degree in bone disorders with honors.‬‬ ‫‪She then moved to China to persue‬‬ ‫‪her dream to become the first Emirati‬‬ ‫‪female receiving a master’s degree in‬‬ ‫‪Orthopedic and Surgery.‬‬

First Cabin Crew Nawal Al Suwaidi, is the first Emirati woman cabin crew. When Emirates Airlines was launched in 1985, it offered opportunities to many; however, Nawal took this opportunity seriously and joined the company. In 1988, Al Suwaidi graduated from high school and she made her decision that she wanted to join the company explaining that her dream is to become cabin crew.
