Mariaemanuela Messina

I am an Italian researcher, writer and curator based in London. I am the author of the book ‘CINEMA.MODA Il cinema e la moda tra filmico e sociale’ (cinema and fashion between social and cinematic) published by Arduino Sacco Editore, Rome, 2011. I was awarded the 'International Prize Filippo Sacchi' for the best academic thesis of cinema issue, at the 65th Venice Film Festival - La Biennale. Regarding my specific areas of research interest, I am drawn towards subjects such as: Identity, the body, objects, and hybrid cultures; I am interested in the way visual material informs and influences the process in which we understand and represent the present and ourselves; The themes of identity and the body within the contemporary scenario, characterized by instability and social complexity, in which identities are constructed as appearance, and individuals are free to change, adopting a variety of configurations within bodily and cultural hybridization.
