redefining the limit new version of reality
the paper attempts to negotiate the urban space and its evolution under new conditions. The concept of space was redefined in terms of the dialectical relationship between environment - person, considering perception as the main phenomenon that allows the decoding of reactions to stimuli of space and activity as a means of understanding and interpreting the portrayed space. The city is emerging as a complex system of relationships and interactions in which diversities and possibilities get their own imaginary and real space. Child and play as a potential “movements” come to join or get mixed , in a search of restoring their relationship with the city space, but also as a different way of reading it. the research starts from childhood, as the most spontaneous and creative phase of human existence, as a move from a state of equilibrium in a subsequent motion, from the “I” to the “other”, from the known to the unknown, from here to there and at the same time, the position of children in the city today. Presenting data from existing research in developmental and social sciences, we searched out for the relationship which children are able to develop with the space and which is the quality of space that can satisfy this relationship. the unprompted play, in its essence as an institution crossing boundaries, as a gesture to the other and the fact that its process redefines the space, comes here to fill the lost child’s relationship with the city, as the child looks for opportunities to express and converse with reality, in the interstices of its play. The dynamics of play, the internal contradictions of the inextricable relationship with creativity and personalized production space in this emerging tools activation of public space and so it is that this combination can be a means of reading and intervention in the city. more info at: http://issuu.com/mariaforouli/docs/___________________________________
diploma project: in the Valley of Spercheios : revitalizing the rural landscape collaborations: Lenta, F._ Starida, D. Athens, 2014_2015
in our diploma project we proposed a general scenario of action that aims to redefine the rural landscape, as a hub of social relations and participation in the production process in all its stages. With this approach we tried to organize an agricultural park in the valley of Sperchios river, proposing simple wooden structures that emerge in the rural landscape and functions that could immerse us into everyday agricultural life. the selected area is situated in Fthiotida, in the center of the greek mainland, a rural and ranching areal. Besides, its centrality, the area is a hub of transport networks, which has given impetus to the development of different activities in the region and makes it easy to access. In addition, Fthiotida was chosen because of its geographical diversity, with mountains, coastal areas and lowlands. more info at: http://issuu.com/mariaforouli/docs/ in_the_valley_of_spercheios

aspects of the architectural model
The laboratories are a central point of our proposal as the are necessary for the viability of the whole project. There is where the farm goods are used and processed in order to create the final product, where the visitor’s experience and the contact with nature and soil becomes complete. The workshops are organized in two groups of buildings on either side of the main road. All spaces are designed taking into consideration the special needs of each laboratory.

architectural design 09: urban design on the edge _ modern strategies for waterfront’s ‘habitation’ collaborations: Gkoufa, V. _ Starida, D. Thessaloniki, 2012_2013
The project is located in Thessaloniki, a city whose identity is defined by its image of modernity, its historical traces and its particular topography as well as by the loss or better the silence of its multicultural character. The study area is located on the docks zone, on the northwest part of the city center. At the very end of the marine promenade and adjacent to the center, the study area is looking for a new roe after the removal of the commercial port operations that it used to host.
masterplan
general location The idea was to renegotiate the existing platforms and rivitalize the industrial, abandoned and nearly vacant area. Key targets, from the beginning of the composition, were the connection of the area with the rest of the city and the use the entire length of the waterfront.

architectural design 7-8: multifunctional public building public library: cultural and educational center in Ano Kipseli collaborations: Thanasi, M. _ Lenta, F. Athens, 2011_2012
The complex is situated in Ano Kipseli, a centrical high density residentaial area of Athens. The purpose of the center is to work as a landmark for the region and enrich its cultural life. The given field is part of an inclined park, so the main compositional idea derives from the land elevation. The course was held in two consecutive semesters, between two different sectors, architectural synthesis and construction details.

The project regards redesigning the Square opposite the Varvakeion Marketplace, which belongs to Athens’s historical center and is directly connected with the main commercial city center. As the area has an interesting, multi functional character, the question is whether and how the more traditional spatial infrastructure of the existing Varvakeion Market is covering or not the current production activities requirements, what stays and what goes into a comprehensive redevelopment of the square, maintaining the character of the ‘Market’ and whether or not could the Public space shape collective behavior.

architectural design 5a: systematic analysis of vernacular builidings and settlements Kastania collaborations: Adamou, D._ Gkoufa, V._ Lenta, F._ Perigianis, A._ Thanasi, M._ Starida, D. _Zisopulu, F. Athens, 2010
the aim of the course was the analysis of traditional buildings and complexes, in order to identify the distinct architectural character of the greek traditional settlements. we focus on the form and as long as the construction perspective of them and study the structural analysis of most of the buildings. the specific area of our study is a small village named Kastania, situated in West Mani, Peloponnesse, Greece. The course contains both field an studio work.

The towers of Mani are a singular and unique category of greek traditional architecture projects. The presence of a large number of towers across Mani is justified by the character acquired by settlements in the course of their history. The tower of Captain Douraki is characterized as a separate landmark of the Kastania village. It was built in the 18th century. The height is about 20 meters and consists of 3 floors above the ground floor. Each floor is connected to the supernatant with wooden stairs. According to the structuring of the towers, the entrance of the tower does not go directly to the square, but access is achieved through a labyrinthian gallery (which today has been covered) or the small house of the southeastern side. The tower is built with lime to make it more durable and with large cornerstones. The openings in the perimeter walls are scarce, narrow and small, with the frames arranged in recess. The remaining doors are low, both for defensive purposes and for protection from the outside air. Still, there is a strong presence of large numbers loopholes, which allowed the possibility of targeting fighter. * the project contained a great amount of work and differnet building typologies were analyzed here there is presented only a small portion of it

architectural design competition: Carpineto Mountain Refuge collaborations:Thanasi, M._ Zisopoulou, F. Berlin, 2015
”Carpineto Mountain Refuge” competition aims to promote the territory and the landscape of Lepine Mountains through a series of temporary receptive points nearby the main mountain paths hiked over by tourists, rethinking the old mountain huts in a contemporary way. the competition aims to promote a new concept of tourism development of the area, through a new idea of hospitality, enhancing the potentialities of the area in all its components, bringing out the strong points that specifically characterize the village and the surrounding area. the competition asks to design mountain huts ideally placed at the crucial points of the routes, where other tourist facilities have been placed over the years but that lack of architecture style and quality.

“Volos in the Extremes” was an international urban design masterclass open to students towards the end of their studies, recent graduates, and professionals in architecture, urban design, and related design/projectoriented fields. The masterclass was organised through the collaboration of an international team of professionals and academics, and it was hosted by the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, in Volos. The point of departure for this master class is the challenges faced by the city in response to the global economic crisis. As the predominant model of development, in Greece and around the world, is severely challenged, we are presented with a unique opportunity to re-invent it: to shift from growth to sustainability, from market-dependency to self-sufficiency, from individuallymotivated consumption to publiclyuseful production, a whole new paradigm is longing to emerge. Through a 6-day programme of group work, site visits, lectures, and social events, the master class, organised into units, produced a set of urban design proposals for different areas of Volos. Units focused on different geographies of the city, ranging both in scale and location, from building typology to the structure of the urban grid, and from the city’s water edge to its peripheral ‘strip’ extensions. Considering the crisis as a trigger to the re-invention of the city itself, the participants were invited to use the tools of city-making in proposing radical urban scenarios for an uncompromising future. Unit 6, in which this projecti was included, dealt with the industrial area of the city.
