Efren Frayre “These scholarships are more than just money from donors helping you pay for school; it provides you with a sense of security and comfort that helps you focus more on your academics and everything else that college is about. With college tuition rising each passing year, it leads many students such as myself to develop the mentality that it is close to impossible to afford to go to college. Every student should apply for as many scholarships as possible, because even the smallest amount adds up at the end of the day.”

K

ansas State University exists to affirm the land-grant philosophy of improving lives through educational access. In other words, K-State provides public access to the pursuit of the American dream. It is a given – a college degree is one of the most lucrative investments an individual can make. College graduates earn, on average, $20,000 more per year than someone with only a high school diploma (College Board, 2007). For decades, a degree in higher education has been a pathway to attaining the American dream. However, as state support for public institutions decreases, costs of providing a top quality education continue to increase. Skyrocketing costs are putting a college education out of reach for deserving students with few financial resources.

Julie Damian “Scholarships help a great deal as I don’t have to work a lot to pay my way through school and gives me more free time so I can get involved. At the CBA, we are all like a big family. These relationships have led to great opportunities such as leading the Study Abroad Advocates and being a member of EMPA Internal Advisory Board. Without scholarships, I wouldn’t be here today.”

P

roviding students access to success is why we need scholarships to ensure that the brightest minds get the best Kansas State University education possible regardless of their circumstances. If only those who can afford to attend college go, we will miss out on the amazing minds that deserve a chance at a college education and the American dream will become an endangered species. Your support of scholarships in the College of Business Administration helps level the playing field and increase the odds of making every student’s dream a reality. Bottom line, scholarships are a crucial element in creating a culture where every student can succeed.

Tyler Johnson “During the summer between my sophomore and junior year, I needed to figure out how I was going to continue paying for school. Luckily, Dr. Dawne Martin contacted me about the Project IMPACT Scholarships that our corporate donors provide. I fortunately, was selected to receive a scholarship. That award is the reason I’m still at K-State, and I am eternally grateful.”
