This image (left) I created uses standard type, with a symmetrical composition and a triad relationship colour. The word ‘defeat’ was the first word that came into my head at the time when thinking about what to write. However after experimenting with the and type, the horizontal line which lays directly in the middle of the words act as part of each letter. I thought this looked very effective. The black and white image below was the first experimental image I created and then I experimented with it further and created the final outcome, which uses a symmetrical composition and triad colour relationship, interpreting primary colours.
This image was taken from the Pepsi Cola logo. It’s classed as a vernacular type piece using the rule of thirds. I’ve also used a split complementary colour relationship within this image. I went around creating this by using the pen tool, which is a more precise way of cutting around shapes and letters, rather than using the magic wand or polygonal lasso tool in Photoshop, then filling the space in afterwards. 1
