What is this Workshop About?
Lately, it has become more and more apparent that not every physician wants to continue along the ACO / Medicare and Managed Care integration trajectories. Some have other aspirations and goals for their practice. Better work-life balance, more quality time with fewer patients, and more influence over their patients’ personalized healthcare. Within that group are those who: • want to practice direct-pay medicine and accept only cash from the patient at the time of service • want a blended practice model that includes managed care participation “plus” amenities not paid for under the managed care contracts, or want nothing to do with the up-front costs for planning, conversion and marketing and
want some franchise firm to do the heavy lifting for a percentage of ownership in the practice. None of these is better or worse; right or wrong. Each is very personal and unique to the physician. For those who want an unbiased, no-pressure examination of your options, this is the course you’ve been looking for! If you are considering opting out of managed care and Medicare, and are considering concierge medicine or direct practice, you must educate yourself on the various business models in the marketplace and what each one offers for your future and the options open to you. This comprehensive introduction to the issues will prepare you now.
How to assess your current practice demographics Examine the various options you have under concierge medicine What amenities should you offer? How to evaluate hybrid and direct practice options Should you quit Medicare? Should you quit Managed Care? What do do with your existing patients that don’t follow How not to lose the value of your ongoing business unit The timeline for your transition to concierge medicine - what to expect 10. What to make of concierge medicine in light of health care reform 11. Concierge medicine and HIPAA, EHR, ICD-10, CAHPS and PQRS
After consulting to more than 1000 physicians and converting more than 50 practices over the past few years, Maria has learned three hard and fast rules: First, “If you’ve seen one concierge practice, you’ve seen one.” Each one is different because of the nature of the physicians themselves. Like eagles, they don’t tend to fly in a V-formation. Second, market conditions where the physician chooses to locate their practice and the services they intend to offer to define their niche domain also influence the planning, strategy and execution. Finally, “how” they approach the sales aspect of membership selling and marketing can make or break an otherwise viable program.
