Simple Tips To Make Your Portraits Perfect

www.marialylephotography.com

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: We are able to go anywhere for portraits. Most business portraits are done in the studio or at your work place. If you choose an outdoor location, be sure to consider the time of year and pick early morning or late afternoon. Any photography in the middle of the day in Florida is not recommended especially in the summer months. Humidity, heat, high glare are not your best friend. TIME: Be sure to allow at least one hour for your portrait session, and be sure to consider travel time if you have another important appointment after our session. REST: Be well rested, this will minimize dark circles under your eyes. FOOD: Having a light meal and water prior to the Portrait Session is a great idea to help keep your mind focused. SUN: Avoid being exposed to the sun, while wearing oversized sunglasses and baseball hats prior to picture day to avoid skin-tone discrepancies. GLASSES: If you wear glasses, wear them in your photos! We’ll make sure to get a couple without for variety if you want. If you can, bring frames without the glass to help with glare. HAIR: We suggest that you do not try a new hair style and or a new hair color just before your session. If you need a haircut, be sure to get it done a week to two weeks prior to your appointnment. Gentlemen, Please make sure to keep your beard and/or mustache neatly trimmed. HAIR & MAKE UP ITEMS: I highly recommend professional make up artists for your portraits, please see Page 9. The end results ae far better. Gentlemen, Please bring a hair brush, and or comb. Ladies, Also, please bring a hair brush, comb, lipstick and make-up to freshen up. HANDS: Please remember that if your hands will be in some of the photos: Ladies, Please have your nails manicured and fresh polished. Gentlemen, Please have your nails manicured and trimmed. CLOTHING: It is also recommended that people bring 1 to 2 additional outfits to better color match. And for the gentlemen, please bring extra ties as well.

Clothing & Colors

The clothing you choose can make the difference between an ordinary or an excellent photo; whether it be an individual portrait or in a group setting. For a group photo, it is important that all participants match their clothing color and styles. All clothing should blend with the other people’s clothing. One distinctive color or pattern will really stand out. The less colors that are introduced into the sitting, the better the final results. Some of the finest shots are created when the entire group wears one basic color or different tones of one color. Avoid stripes, dots, patterns and other distinctive figures. These are fine for ties, but not shirts or dresses. Match the mood of all clothing -- all dress casually or formally – do not mix the two or some will look over or under dressed. Stay with either deep shades or light shades. It is recommended to wear a loose fitting shirt, blouse, jackets, etc. Business attire is recommended for ladies and gentlemen. Suit and tie for gentlemen. Blouses or shirts should be 3/4 or long sleeves. Short sleeves are not recommended. AVOID sleeveless tops. Sweater styles recommended: crew neck, v-necks (only with shirts underneath). COLORS THAT DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH WELL
