INTRODUCTION

Research The logo is derived from a direct, strategic research and documentation of public libraries in the UAE. A formal logo was then created with an overarching visual identity that references back to attributes that we listed. My attributes are: calm, quiet, safe, and shared.

LOGO

Approach The simplification of lines and type communicate – through a certain degree of abstraction – the majority of what libraries include: words in paragraphs. The alternation of the type and bars is to provide a visual relation to a paragraph. The logo is in both Arabic and English because of the specific context it requires. By playing with the rotation of the logo, it can start to become dynamic, alluding to stacks of books found in libraries.

TYPOGRAPHY

Typefaces The English typeface used is Scala Sans Pro. Titles and names are used in bold uppercase. Subtitles, in bold, and body text, in regular, are used in upper and lowercase. The Arabic typeface used is Frutiger LT Arabic.
