VILA DAS AVES

Located on the outskirts of SANTO TIRSO, near of Ave River, this small house is surrounded by fields and dispersed houses. The client’s desire was to renew but preserve the aspect of this house and expand it to create another house for the son and his family.

The groundfloor, becomes a small apartment for the owner and the top floor with the extension, wich ocupies the backyard, becomes a home for the son.

The aim was to find a relationship with the preexisting house and the new volume. Relationship between the old and the new; between small built by irregular shape and functionality. The experience from this work, enable a better sense of: how to deal with other professionals of the field; how to talk with the clients and how astute you must be and how to deal with burocratic issues.

CINEMA MEMORY MOTIAN

CONCEPT

THIS CITY HAS BEEN EXPANDING UP AROUND THE HISTORIC CENTER SINCE THE XII CENTURY. OVER THE YEARS, THE HEART OF THE CITY HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN BY THE RESIDENT PEPULATION, BY NOT BE ATTRACTIVE ENOUGH. THE IDEA OF THIS PROJECT IS TO USE CINEMA AS A FUNCTION, WHICH COMES FROM THE SENSE OF MEMORY; THE REPRESENTATION OF HUMANITY BY THE TRANSPARENCY OF THE PICTURE MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THE WORLD. HENCE, THE FUNCTION OF THE PROJECT, IN A WAY USE THE MEMORY OF THE CITY; THE MEMORY OF THE VIANENSE CULTURE THAT STILL EXISTS BY TRYING SIMULTANEOUSLY, REVITALIZE THE AREA.

CONCEPT

TWO SCHOOLS OF ARCHITECTURE - FROM ATHENS, GREECE AND COIMBRA, PORTUGAL - DECIDED TO ORGANIZE A WORKSHOP THAT WILL FOCUS ON LAVREOTIKI AREA IN ATTICA, GREECE, WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS.

LAVREOTIKI IS A PENINSULA IN THE SE PART OF THE PREFECTURE OF ATTICA WITHIN A DISTANCE OF 67 KM FROM ATHENS AND EXTENDS TO THE WEST OF THE CITY OF LAVRIO (THE MUNICIPAL SEAT) AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 230 METERS. THE TOWN OF LAVRIO WAS INITIALLY BUILT AS A WORKERS SETTLEMENT IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY BY EUROPEAN EXPLOITERS.

THE WORKSHOP INTENDS TO PROTECT AND HIGHLIGHT THE HISTORICAL REMNANTS OF THE AREA ALONG A ROUTE COMMENCING FROM THE MINING CENTRE OF THE VILLAGE OF KAMARIZA TO DOLINE -

MINING THE PAST LAVRIO, GREECE

-“CHAOS”, ENDING UP TO THE PLACE OF ANCIENT ORE WASHING WORKSHOPS AND CISTERNS. PLACES OF NATURAL POCKETS SHOULD BE PROTECTED AND PLACES OF NATURAL IMPORTANCE SHOULD BE PROJECTED. IN ALL PLACES THE QUALITY OF NATURAL ENVIRONMENT IS CONVERSED WITH HISTORICAL BUILT ODDMENTS AND CONSTRUCTIONS OF MINING INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE 19TH CENTURY.

THE AIM OF THIS WORKSHOP IS TO FOCUS ON THE HISTORICAL UNIQUENESS OF THE AREA CONSIDERING ITS ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND ITS CULTURAL HERITAGE. IN THIS WAY, IT WILL OFFER AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CREATIVE IDEAS TO PROMOTE THE SPECIAL LANDSCAPE AND THE CULTURAL PHYSIOGNOMY OF THE AREA.

PRIVACY CULTURE ADAPTATION

CONCEPT

EACH YEAR, NORWAY IS A PLACE FOR A NEW HOME FOR PEOPLE WHICH DON’T HAVE ANYWHERE TO GO.

LOT OF THEM ARE ILLEGAL AND TO RESTART A NEW LIFE THEY NEED A PLACE TO STAY THAT MAKES THEM FEEL SAFE AND SECURE. THIS PROJECT IS TO PROVOKE IN US, TO THINK A WAY OF INSERT THIS EMIGRANTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NORWEGIAN POPULATION WITHOUT MAKING ANYONE FEEL THREATENED. THE LOCATION IS IN THE NORTHEN CITY OF NORWAY, TRONDHEIM, AND THE KEY-WORD FOR AN ADEQUATE PROJECT IS PRIVACY.

Localization and the possible visual axis

THE POSSIBILITY OF IT’S LOCALIZATION

The reason that I choose the Kalvskinnet as a site for my project is because, is an urban place surrounding by Norwegian culture with important historic buildings, like the Nidaros cathedral for example. Furthermore, it is possible to create visual relationship with water and the rest of the city, which is in the other side of the margin.

Project located in Kalvskinnet, the historic center of Trondheim City view River view Archbishop’s Palace

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

Each building of the block contains its own personality and statement in the landscape. This block is defined by buildings with very distinct cultural funtions/programs but all with a very rhythmic facade at the street.

Different from inside but similar at outside.

The dinamic shape of the project on the east side is a way to express that is the back of the building and it’s allow to interrupt from the regular rythm of the front side. It’s just imitates the others buildings to be camouflage, without hiding its own personality.
