REPURPOSING AND DECORATING YOUR GARDEN The garden at your home speaks volumes about your home design styles and preferences and it ultimately reflects on you. Therefore people put a lot of efforts in garden décor. In order to beautify your outdoors, you do not necessarily need to spend high amounts. Although outdoor décor is expensive, you can always repurpose things and reuse it in your garden. A pretty bowl sold in the home department will automatically cost the double if sold in the garden department. Therefore you only need presence of mind and some creativity to completely transform the look of your outdoors with minimal costs. You can take things from the inside and recreate it to put them outside!
Planters Remember, any concave thing can be transformed into a planter. Large bowls, buckets, wash tubs etc. can be used successfully to house large plants in the garden. While this is a good idea, don’t forget about the drainage. A plant can suffer from root rot unless there is a way for the excessive water to drain out.
You can easily drill holes for this purpose. 1 hole for every 4 inch of surface area is the norm. Your holes should be around half an inch wide so that they don’t get clogged due to dirt and debris.
Furniture You can successfully make use of indoor furniture in an outdoor setting; only a few modifications are required. An upholstered furniture piece may seem off in a garden but a wood or wicker furniture piece will be perfect for the outdoor setting. Wood, plastic and metal furniture are preferred for outdoor settings as they are apt for every season; furthermore they appear even more charming as the material weathers further. In order to ensure that your furniture lasts for a long period, you can take a few precautions like upholstering the furniture with material that resists the growth of mold and mildew. There is a canvas like material that is easily available in the market which is appropriate for this purpose. In case of wooden furniture, it is best to give a coat of varnish or rub tung oil on bare wood so as to protect it from moisture. In case of metal, it is already powder coated, and hence well protected. Plastic furniture does not need any treatment as it is safe from all weather conditions. Décor Before discarding old home furniture, you can use it in your garden in innovative ways. Mirrors look amazing when propped up against a fence. Fairytale figurines of your daughter make for amazing garden décor, especially when they are half peeking through the trees. Even the old sculptures in the home look amazing when placed tactfully in the garden. The key is to be selective as well as creative; do not clutter u your garden and you will have an amazing décor for the garden.
