Students will be able to come face-to-face with Florida’s nature by exploring her waters and surroundings. If you are looking for an adventure to expand your knowledge of the marine world, this is the trip for you! Experiences will include but are not limited to, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, kayaking, and viewing the Everglades via an airboat ride. Florida is a perfect place to shake the winter blues and see the beauty of nature that it holds in its Keys. GIVE KIDS THE WORLD
March 9 -13 Give Kids the World Village, Kissimmee, FL
Each year 27,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with a critical illness. At Give Kids the World, students have the opportunity to give back to those children and their families. Give Kids the World is an 84-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides weeklong cost-free vacations to those experiencing such challenges. The Village and its community partners provide children and their families accommodations in fully-furnished villas, transportation, tickets to theme parks, meals, daily entertainment, and much more. This mission based trip to Give Kids The World Village is truly special with fun adventures built into the program such as a day at Disney and more.

LOWELL’S BOAT SCHOOL
March 9 -13 Lowell's Boat Shop, Amesbury, MA
A century ago, dories and skiffs were found everywhere along the New England Coast. Lowell's Boat Shop, founded in 1793, is the birthplace of the American Fishing Dory. Under the guidance of Lowell's Boat Shop boat builders, students will work together to construct a traditional 14' Amesbury Rowing Skiff. This class will use John Gardner's The Dory Book as a construction guide throughout the course. Students will learn how to use patterns lofted from plans and plank by eye. Additional skills covered will be building from plans, copper-riveting, caulking, spiling, beveling, and lap-fitting, and other traditional skills. This will be a fast-moving, exciting course where everyone is actively involved. Students described this LEAP experience last year as life changing! In the evenings, students will enjoy a mix of cultural immersion and simply having fun as a group in this culturally rich area. The Arts/Cultural Immersion

“Volunteering with Re-Member is an emotional and life-changing event. Travel to Huntsville, Alabama for an experience out of this world! Advanced Space Academy explores college and career preparation through an immersive experience in science, technology, engineering, and math. Trainees undergo a variety of astronaut training exercises, engineering challenges, and team building activities, all culminating in an extended-duration simulated space mission. Further experiences while at Space Camp include • Train like an astronaut on the 1/6th Gravity Chair and the Multi-Axis Trainer. • Design, build and launch a team rocket, and safely recover its payload. • Learn team building skills on the high elements at our Area 51 Challenge Course. • Experience neutral buoyancy while SCUBA diving in the Underwater Astronaut Trainer! STAINED GLASS
March 9 -13 Yestermorrow Design Build School, Waitsfield, VT
It may seem surprising to call stained glass a form of painting, but in fact it is! It is a form of painting that began over 1,000 years ago and is still essentially made the same way today. One of the most widespread forms of painting, stained glass inspired the lives of the faithful through religious narratives in churches and cloisters, celebrated family and political ties in city halls, and even decorated the windows of private houses as it still does today. In this course, students will learn the basics of cutting glass and multiple techniques for painting on the glass with vitreous enamels. The glass pieces are fired in a kiln to adhere the paint. Students learn the copper foiling and soldering techniques that made Tiffany famous to create their own glass panels. No previous glass experience required.

THE INS AND OUTS OF SKI PATROLLING

Head to the beautiful Green Mountains - specifically - Sugarbush Mountain to learn about the training topics a Ski & Ride Instructor needs to know and apply daily. Learn how to take someone from their 1st ski/ride experience to confidently skiing/riding Intermediate to Advanced terrain. Topics such as risk management, safety protocol, group handling skills, ski & ride technique fundamentals, making it “sensational,” information delivery, public speaking, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, creating a learning environment, physical preparation, nutrition & hydration, keeping things fun, creating adventure, creating memorable experiences, helping develop positive attitudes, being reliable, being timely, being prepared, staying focused, and checking for understanding are some of the important aspects that will be discussed and learned. WINTER BACKCOUNTRY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM March 9 -13 North Conway, NH
During this tailor-made program designed for Marianapolis students with EMS, participants will learn how to adapt basic hiking skills to the winter environment, learn appropriate emergency preparedness for cold environments, learn all about appropriate clothing and equipment and how to say safe and warm during your expanded four season endeavors, while building on Team Building and leadership training. Sessions within a classroom setting include survival/improvised navigation, reading topographic maps, understanding the many uses of a compass, triangulation and magnetic declination. Note: A winter gear list of items is necessary for course participation.

ZION TO BRYCE

Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon have been described as two of the most spectacular places to visit by anyone who has been fortunate to spend time at these very special National Parks. This LEAP course focuses on the natural sheer beauty of both. The personal challenge component comes from the guided physical challenges that students will be participating in daily such as canyoneering, hiking, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking. Participants will also be introduced to an archeological program at Zion National Park and view the Southgate Petroglyphs dating back at least one thousand years ago, if not older. This is a trip of a lifetime!

ARCHITECTURE THINK TANK

Inspiration for design is everywhere, from the natural world around us to everyday objects. Architects channel this inspiration when building designs that are responsive to nearby surroundings, human inhabitants and the use of finished structures. In this course, students engage in idea generation, sketching, drafting and model making. This concept-to-designto-build process begins with objects from RISD's Nature Lab, where students investigate various natural structures. They then explore personal, societal, and cultural needs as they transform these ideas into drawings and handmade architectural models.

ART SCHOOL PREP AND CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

If you're considering an art school, then you've encountered "the assignment:" a test of an applicant's ability to turn a written prompt into a visual solution. This course, a rehearsal for that assignment, allows you to stretch your conceptual muscles and receive valuable criticism about the solution you render. The instructor will lead you through the generative process of creation that could be a drawing, painting or sculpture and will help lead you to the best visual representation of a written prompt. The course will help you to learn to articulate your ideas visually, verbally, and in writing. This is a valuable experience for the potential art school student, or any young artist looking for an expressive challenge.

Then join a worldwide community of artists, designers, scientists, and hackers who create images, animations, and interactive experiences by writing code. The ability to visualize abstract concepts is made easier with coding competency, and one of the most versatile and accessible coding tools is the open-source product Processing. Initially developed to serve as a high-tech sketchbook, Processing has evolved into a true medium for your inner maker. Free of cost and uniformly accessible, it provides an introduction to computer programming basics ideal for the hands-on visual learner.

DANCE THE KNIGHT AWAY March 9 -13 *This is a 6 day program: 5 of which are during LEAP. The 6th day is TBD.
Dance, Dance, Dance! Whether you are as graceful as a swan gliding over a lake, or have two left feet as soon as your feet tap a rhythm, it doesn't matter! What matters for entry and participation in this course is a desire to learn how to dance. All levels are welcomed and wanted. Students will be instructed at the Fred Astaire Dance Center of Worcester, MA throughout the week and culminate their experience by participating in a professional dance competition. Instruction will not only focus on several types of dance such as salsa, jazz, and ballroom, but also on the fundamental concepts needed to be successful in all dance: footwork, dance rhythms, and what makes a good partner. Your final day will be your recital at a local nursing home. Get your groove on and join the fun!

Calling all foodies, creative persons, and writers! Students will not only have the opportunity to get their creative juices flowing, but will also learn the practical skills needed to develop a food blog or any other blog for that matter. You will learn how to: write about a food blog from Food Bloggers Sarah Connell and Giselle Rivera-Flores, realize the importance of social media to grow a blog, and more. At the end of this fun and design themed week, you will have the chance to share your own food blog based on your experiences throughout the week!

FORGING March 9 -13
“Forged in Fire is an original competition series hosted by weapons expert and U.S. Army and Air Force veteran Will Willis, featuring world-class bladesmiths competing to create history’s most iconic edged weapons.” Students will not be ready for competition on this wildly successful TV show, but you will be creating a beautifully forged knife at the end of your LEAP program that may spark an interest in becoming an expert. The Worcester Center for Crafts will provide instruction in knife making under expert bladesmith Josh Swalec. The program will take place in the metals studio of the Worcester Center for Crafts. Instruction includes safety instruction, instruction in using the forge, hammers, grinding wheels, bandsaw and drill press, and all materials. Safety glasses will also be provided. Please note: Students may not, under any circumstances, collect their own products or have them on campus. All students’ work will need to be signed for by a parent/guardian with Mrs.Viens. The Arts

HOLE IN THE WALL: KIDS FOR CAMP March 9 -13
“The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families, free of charge! The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman with one simple premise in mind:that every child, no matter their illness, could experience the transformational spirit and friendships that go hand-in-hand with camp. Hole in the Wall: Kids for Camp is a program created as an opportunity for students to conduct a successful fundraiser, while also gaining skills that will be beneficial today and for years to come. During the weeklong period of March 9th– March 13th, this small group of students will take a tour of the Camp and then create a plan to conduct a successful fundraiser. A final project of fundraising is the expected capstone project with all profits donated to Hole in the Wall.

GARDENING & GREENHOUSES

Do you love dirt? Do you love plants? Do you love the idea of non-GMO food? The Gardening and Greenhouses LEAP program will cover many of these themes and interests, with a capstone group project of assembling a greenhouse on campus! You will also learn how to seed collect & build your own terrarium as workshops under the expertise of people who garden for a living. A local artist (who used to own one of the most unique orchid businesses in Hawaii and is a well sought out wedding flower designer) will teach you about the art of wreath making. You will visit a world renowned greenhouse in our own backyard! Last but not least - you will attend the Connecticut Flower Show and attend two seminars: one on backyard chicken gardening and the other on the how every yard counts for the Monarch Butterfly. GAME ASSETS WITH Z BRUSH March 9 -13
Behind every great 3D video game is a concept designer, who designs creatures, characters, swords, and other game assets that visually represent a virtual world. Young artists in this course are introduced to this profession, and to ZBrush, a digital sculpting program that combines 3D modeling, texturing, and painting. With ZBrush, artists can create characters and creatures as if they were shaping clay, and give them dramatic surface treatments that result in high-resolution models. More than a software tutorial, this course is an exercise in imagination, as well as a peek into the fascinating world of the concept designer.

GLASS BLOWING INTENSIVE March 9 -13
Learn the fundamentals of an art form that has remained unchanged for over 2,000 years. The Worcester Center for Crafts instructor will guide you through each step of the glassblowing process, providing hands-on instruction and individual assistance. After learning the safety and studio etiquette rules, students will gain practical skills in the art of glassblowing while completing projects including paperweights, drinking glasses, bowls, and small sculptures. No experience is necessary!

Give locally - in our own backyard, by joining this community-based week long mutual mentoring program. It offers individuals with/without disabilities opportunities to engage with peers who have the same or similar life dreams. Mentors/mentees will research and identify comprehensive resources, such as education, job readiness trainings, ways to promote the development of employment skills, and/or trainings in and exposure to entrepreneurial activities. Through the peer relationship, people with/without disabilities identify the mutual barriers for reaching or that are preventing them from accomplishing their dreams. They then work together to create goals for overcoming those barriers, and develop an action plan to accomplish those goals through mutual guidance, assistance, and encouragement.

LET'S GO SAILING

Designed to build strong foundational sailing skills, this LEAP course is appropriate for beginners or sailors who want a refresher course. New England Science and Sailing certified instructors will provide a thorough introduction to sailing terminology, rigging, de-rigging, basic sailing maneuvers, sea-safety and marine navigation. This course is geared towards spending as much time on the water as possible. By the end of this LEAP Program - you will be excited to sail the seven seas!

"Made by Hand" is a very special course that celebrates local artists and their creation process. Under the tutelage of exceptionally talented artists, students will learn how to create six different medians from a natural raw form and end with something beautiful and practical in the process. Participants will be learning from some of the best of the best who create daily and make their living "by hand." The program focuses on glass bead blowing with Cynthia Saari, blacksmithing with Michael Saari, welding with Dan Durand, Raku and Horse Hair pottery at The Worcester Center for Crafts, and weaving at Saori Studio. Students will take home the pieces of art that they have created.

In addition to providing hands-on learning of materials taught in class, this LEAP course is designed to continue the development of student proficiency in scientific inquiry, laboratory and field techniques, and scientific writing. This course is going to inspire you to further a dream of becoming a marine biologist! Get in touch with your artistic side and immerse yourself in nature at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens this spring. Explore our conservatories filled with tropical plants and delve into the world of street art and orchids. Come learn from experts in the world of art and horticulture as we explore the relationships between humans and nature. Learn how to care for your own orchid terrarium, create scientifically accurate botanical illustrations, and appreciate how nature inspires us to create, learn, and innovate. We will explore the world of street art and tour murals by local artists and will end the week by completing a collaborative mural project with a local graffiti artist.

POTTERY INTENSIVE March 9 -13
Spend a week immersed in clay! A full week in the pottery studio will provide you the opportunity to not only learn some new pottery skills and make some pieces to keep, but also to design and create a piece of public art as a team that will be installed on campus. This course is for artists of any level. Whether you've worked with clay for years or never touched it, all that's holding you back is your willingness to jump in and get creative! At the beginning of the week, you'll get your creative juices flowing by working on some individual pieces that will be yours to keep. Simultaneously, the group will be brainstorming ideas for a larger team project. This could be a mural to hang on the wall, a totem to stand tall in the yard, or even a large sculpture. Join us for a week of creative fun!

SEALS AND SUBMERSIBLES March 9 -13
Spend the week exploring marine technology: how to make it, how to use it, and why! Highlights will include: • Design, build, and test your own ROV (remotely operated vehicle) for underwater missions. • Learn how to code, and program sensors that could be deployed on your ROV. • Spend time on the water aboard a research vessel, learning about undersea technology and how it is used in oceanographic research • Participate in a seal watch, and learn about the role of marine tech in marine mammal research. • Tour UCONN's world class Undersea Research Laboratory Each student will take home their own Arduino kit. You are the maker in this course that incorporates elements of both product design and apparel design. The design studio begins with a review of how manufacturing technology, trends, and cultural attitudes have shaped the market for sneakers, pumps, boots, and sandals. You will choose one of these forms to assess, deconstruct, and redesign with attention to materials, purpose, and economy. You'll learn how to render your initial idea as a concept sketch, and eventually complete a prototype shoe design that is functional, fashionable or fantastic.

START DESIGNING WITH TYPE

Whether you're designing logos for your band, your homepage or a self-published comic book, you need to start loving letters -- or at least appreciating them. Letters have the potential to project as much distinctive identity as the groups, products, and teams to which they are attached, but this connection does not happen by accident. In this graphic design course, you'll be introduced to the basics of letter-form, which is the key element in the process of creating logos, marks, and titles that electrify and excite. Discover how to start with a doodle in a sketchbook, reimagined in Adobe Illustrator, and perfected until it is ready for display on a patch, poster or drum head.

Calling all thespians! What’s a play without interesting characters? By inventing characters with depth and detail, students will take their theatre skills to the next level. Days will be spent creating characters, deciding exactly who they are, and defining their back stories. The final class will be a presentation of these characters in a series of vignettes and monologues written by the students.

ZOOLOGY

Do you L-O-V-E animals? Are you fascinated by all that they do and the joy they bring to humans? Perhaps you are even more fascinated by the workings of zoos – and the role they play in the sustainability of endangered animals? In this course, held daily at Roger Williams Zoo, budding zoologists will explore the importance of biodiversity, the human impacts on animals and ecosystems, how global change is affecting ecosystems, and the important roles that zoos play in protecting biodiversity. Additionally, students will have an insiders look at the veterinary hospital, the animal ambassador holding, the commissary, and an opportunity to observe an enrichment or training session!
