GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: 0.5 CREDIT IN VISUAL ART AND 0.5 IN PERFORMANCE ART, AND AN ADDITIONAL 0.5 CREDIT IN EITHER AREA

P

articipation in and study of the arts encourages us to react, record, and share our impressions of and with the world. The goal of the Fine Arts Department is to enable students to experience, understand, and enjoy the Visual and Performance Arts, including studio art, drama, dance, and music. The program encourages individual creative expression, development of specific skills in each area, communication with the public through exhibitions and performances, working collaboratively with peers, and nurtures an appreciation of all art forms. Courses provide recognition of the role of the arts in history and in our contemporary world. All students have the opportunity to display their work in the school art shows, and/or participate in the school performances.

VISUAL ARTS COURSE TITLE: PEER ASSISTANT: VISUAL ART GRADE LEVEL: 11 - PG and departmental approval PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of three terms of Visual Art and/or teacher permission DURATION: One term This course is designed to provide students skilled in the visual art the opportunity to serve as an aide to teachers in preparing lessons and supporting art students throughout the term. This course may be taken for one or two terms. Participation will be reflected on transcripts, but no numerical credit is given. Responsibilities will include coordinating with visual art teachers in the areas of project learning, student understanding, and peer support. Students must be willing to make a commitment to this course
