L.E.A.P. Week
Live. Experience. Advance. Prepare.
L.E.A.P. Week is a week long mini-term during which students and faculty explore a specific topic, project, or adventure. Course offerings typically focus on specialized skills, the arts, community service, scientific field studies, cultural immersion experiences, or outdoor challenges. Curricula are designed around the existing interests of school community members and may also involve off-campus instructors with relevant expertise. L.E.A.P. Week prioritizes learning in the concrete and physical world of action as a complement to learning in the vicarious and conceptual environment of most classrooms. Students are encouraged to step beyond customary learning situations and begin a lifelong process of challenging the self to exceed comfortable boundaries. The program takes students out of the classroom and into broader areas of handson exploration in the company of teachers who model the excitement and joy of lifelong learning. This side-by-side experience stimulates deeper teacher/student relationships that are subsequently transferred back into daily campus life. Since each group focuses on a single goal or endeavor, L.E.A.P. Week also imparts lessons about group membership and the advantages and responsibilities of interdependence. Examples of Past Courses Marine Habitats of Sea Turtles: Jekyll Island, GA • Film Production: Los Angeles Chicago: The Windy City • Dynamics of Music • Food Blogging History, Beaches & Southern Charm: Charleston, SC • The Great West: Oklahoma Roosevelt’s America: Leadership in Challenging Times History & Hauntings of New England • Mission: Maine • Jesuit Jumpstart • Blood, Sweat & Theater

Online Learning
“The Summer Session Online and Online Book Club are two exciting programs to enhance a student’s education beyond the typical calendar year. Students can participate from anywhere in the world for a truly unique learning experience.” Jane Hanrahan, Director of Online Learning Enrolled Marianapolis students have an opportunity to continue their courses of study in the Marianapolis Summer Session. Participants take online summer classes in order to meet graduation requirements on time, to complete course prerequisites in advance, or to study a particular discipline at an accelerated rate. Non-native English speaking students also make tremendous progress in our online English as a Second Language (ESL) program throughout June and July. 27 courses are offered across six subjects including ESL, English, Math, Science, History, and Theology. The Online Book Club invites students to enhance English skills through a 10-day online literature course. Custom designed for the age and skills of users, the literature modules provide access to an academic English class designed and taught by Marianapolis instructors. Each 10-day module centers around one children’s or young adult fiction novel. Courses increase reading comprehension and critical analysis proficiency while reinforcing each student’s ability to express ideas and insight.
Centers of Excellence
The Centers of Excellence (COE) is a unique certificate program being offered at Marianapolis. COE allows students earning their diploma the opportunity to enrich, enhance, and focus their academic experience through one of three specialized centers: Civic Engagement and Service, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Technology and Innovation. Earning a specialized certificate while completing their academic graduation requirements enables students to explore a potential career area and heighten their college placement opportunities. Distinctive features of the Centers of Excellence program include: completion of specific academic curricula for each center, completion of a supervised internship, participation in the COE seminar, participation in an appropriate L.E.A.P. Week course, and completion of a capstone project during the senior year.
