Another good way of using space efficiently is the placement of a Pedestal Glass Fronted Niche unit in the middle of a mausoleum’s foyer.

This is an integrated modular designed solution used to preserve the integrity of the chapel’s sacred space.

GLASS FRONTED NICHES RETROFITTED ON TWO MARBLE CLAD WALLS

Bronze International has recently installed for Holy Cross Catholic

Cemetery and Mausoleum, Diocese of San Diego two contemporary looking glass fronted niches (7’ x 11’). They were carefully retrofitted on two marble clad walls to highlight the beauty and distinction of the main aisle of the mausoleum.

Summary The modular “cellular” construction of the unit provided the flexibility to incorporate a combination of niche sizes: single niche (12” x 12”), junior niche for tall urns (12” x 18”), double niches for couples (12” x 24”) and a central feature niche (24” x 24”). Each niche is fronted with elegant clear beveled glass. The interior LED lighting is hidden and provides a subtle and warm hue of light to the entire niche wall. Each niche is embellished with LP Bronze’s bronze “Simplicity” vases. BEFORE

Summary LP Bronze International was commissioned to install its Glass Fronted Niches in a room with stained glass windows that was used in the past as an office. It is adjacent to the entrance of Holy Angels Mausoleum. The windows were not to be obstructed. The solution was to create see through modules that allow the radiant light of the stained glass window to filter through the newly designed niche room. And to ensure a continuous wrap around of the unit, an eight-niche corner unit was also installed.

The challenge was to integrate the units without obstructing the view of the windows that were retrofitted with stained glass panels. The design solution resulted in a lovely sacred space. Michael Sinnott Executive Director at Catholic Cemetery Association of Pittsburgh

The

century-old Gothic style chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery has

been recently retrofitted with LP Bronze International’s Glass Fronted Niches. Mount Olivet serves as the administrative office for the Catholic Cemeteries of Buffalo. There are over 50,000 burials in the cemetery. The illuminated niches were installed in 6 1/2foot high units with openings for the existing beautiful stained glass windows. 8

Century-old Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, New York retrofitted with LP Bronze’s ‘Classica’ Glass Fronted Niches Summary The chapel still serves as a special gathering place used for prayer, quietude, meditation, and small worship services. “The challenge,” as explained by Andrew Krawczyk, President of LP Bronze International, “was to embrace the beauty of the limestone walls, wooden ceiling trusses, raised altar platform, and stained glass windows with an integrated modular designed niche system. We needed to preserve the integrity of the chapel and the sight lines of an unobstructed view of the nave and raised sanctuary area. This was not to become simply a niche room. A number of working drawings were produced before we found the appropriate solution.”

The “honey comb” modular system provides an opening for the stained glass windows. Similarly, the gray granite cladding used for the upper and low tier niches are matched as closely as possible with the limestone interior walls.

Retrofitting a heritage building is always a challenging task. Our underutilized chapel was beginning to need repairs and slowly became an unnecessary financial burden to our cemetery. LP Bronze tailor designed a solution with its glass fronted niches that not only enhances the beauty of the interior sacred space, but at the same time provides us with a revenue stream to refurbish the entire chapel. alvary Cemetery decided to inlay its chapel walls with LP Bronze’s Glass

Fronted Niches. This decision provided an additional source of revenue without a significant initial investment while adding an aesthetic quality to the location.

Summary

Details

The scope of the project was two-fold:

Upon receiving site location photographs, LP Bronze developed renderings bringing the concept to reality on paper. Additional consultations with the customer allowed LP Bronze to determine and recommend memorialization solutions and the choice for color for the opaque glass.

1. To manufacture and install Glass Fronted Niches that would be inlaid on the walls, on either side of the pews in the chapel. 2. To create a cross motif on the units that would allow for some niche fronts to be seethrough and the remaining to be opaque.

BEFORE

nother good way of using space efficiently is the placement of a Pedestal Glass Fronted Niche unit in the middle of a

mausoleum’s foyer. This was the case when St. Peter’s Cemetery added in 1985 a wing to its original mausoleum built in 1971. The total foyer area of the eastern entrance is 200 square feet; thereby, providing ample space for the 38” x 38” unit to be centered as a beacon for visitors. It features a visually pleasing assortment of single and double niches showcasing attractive urns. 12
