oomins Museum Tampere Year: 2017 Type: Studying project Location: Tampere, Finland Tutor: Klaske Havik Museum is hidden in park, quiet secluded part of Tampere, open to lake waterfront. Although the building is lower than street level, you can find it by following “navigation grid” - grid system of elements spread on the landscape. There are 3 main functional parts: lower part is consistent flexible box for temporary exposition, learning centre and offices; in the middle there is a restaurant and shop inside the glass box which is totally open to outside and accessible from the street level throw the bridge; upper block is for Moomins museum.
Moomins exposition block has its own strict structure: it is made of two-sized box grid with geometrical shapes inside it. Bigger elements are 2 levels height and host the most important exposition elements. Smaller boxes are used for navigation, exploring various space qualities and for exposition as well. The whole structure forms labyrinth of different space impressions, places to hide, unexpected openings and visual effects. Structure is also forming outlook of the Moomins block.

Tampere Open Light festival project Year: 2017 Type: studying project Location: Tampere, Finland Tutor: Harry Edelman
Temporary light installations
H채menkaatu
Ephemeral structures explore space and context throw the humans perception. On social level they may bring attention to forgotten spaces and start public discussions about city values and goals.
H채menkaatu has become the main street after the bridge H채meensilta was built next to it and leaded to its extension towards the train station. It immediately became active street with cafeteria and ships. However, streets around the main street have always been in a shadow.
Symbolical value of light and illumination seems to be crucially important in Finland. 2nd country with least amount of sun light per year, Finland was also facing industrialization and leaving it`s recent agricultural past very fast. City illumination, being a sign of urbanization, can be used as an artistic material to speak about the future of industrial cities like Tampere. What will be done with all the factories and plants, city structure, that might not answer contemporary social needs?
To open up Tampere from new perspective it was decided to focus on "forgotten" spaces around H채menkaatu without touching the main street itself. Due to careful research, many potential spots were discovered. Festival program is based on some of them.
5. Frame BOX On Pellavatehtaankatu there is a narrow deep courtyard-draw-well. The idea behind installation has much in common with Salvador Dali optical illusions. It was inspired by yards character: it has depth but is framing inner space towards the street.
6. LEADING LIGHT 4. HISTORY FRAME
Line art work by Pablo Picasso was taken as an example. Drawing consists of few lines and they are placed in yard with different depth, separately from each other. Looking at the "frame" makes drawing appear.

5. DIALOGUE
ta anka tu
Many building block around Hämenkaatu have height difference, which creates an impression of void. On Verkatehtaankatu two voids are facing each other.Interactive installation consists of geometrical stars placed on the lower part of rooftop. They light up one by one when pedestrian are passing by. More than 3 people on the streets cause special scenario start are "dancing" lighting up with splash speed all together. Installation is using urban character of Tampere city centre and is called to bring attention and to make passing by pedestrians have a look up.
7. Fasade extension
3. HISTORY FRAME
4. overpassing
3. History frame There are not many of reminders about wooden Tampere nowadays in the city center. Framing wooden house on Kyttälänkatu literally with light has practical (visible illumination of historical building) and metaphorical meaning of something that should be paid attention and care of.
6. LEADING LIGHT In contrast "to forgotten" spaces on dark narrow streets, there are many shops and bars at the Northern part of Hämeenkatu. To lead spectators of light festival, encourage to explore city outside touristic landmarks, there is leading light installation placed.
2. frame box
2. frame box 7. dialogue
4. OVERPASSING
Facades of massive public buildings may remain dark and dead at evening time. Monotonous window pattern, big height on the narrow Aleksanterinkatu makes pedestrians pass by as quick as possible. In order to explode this typical urbanistic atmosphere, facade light installation is proposed. Emphasising on buildings rhythm, glowing circles are placed in between windows, creating facade-scaled fractured light system.

Interactive installation is placed on the crossroads of Kyttälänkatu and Pellavatehtaankatu, just in front of the "framed" wooden house and Pikku Kakkosen puisto, in a narrow pocket of the street. The installation itself consists of attached to the wall frame structure and light sticks - lightweight white plastic tubes with light. Sticks are hanged to frame with flexible сords. Grid is 700x700 mm, which means that tubes are easy to touch when going throw structure. Sticks are dangling and transfer movement one to another. Spatial experience of going throw bright light and feeling it physically.
London Public Library Year: 2015 Type: Competition Location: London, UK Team: O.Penyaz, M.Pastukh (Me: concept, planning, texts, collages, schemes)
In a modern of open information library is loosing it`s meaning as an institution. In our opinion, contemporary library should be rather a temple where curiosity and intelligence defeats human ignorance. During Victorian period, the largest glasshouses with botanical gardens were build for wealthy upper class.
As well as the libraries, botanical gardens were avaliable only for privileged people. Nowadays, when these two beautiful things are ďŹ nnaly open to everybody, we combine them together to create symbolic and sacred space for thinking and learning.
