CONNECTING PLACES Master's Degree Thesis. May 2019

The project is intended to solve the problem caused by a railway line that divides a town into two completely separate areas. The actual train station is built with the typical railway typology of the area. As it is a recognizable element, it is preserved and becomes the center of the intervention. It is given a new use, thus becoming the tourist information center of the town. With a view to solving the existing problem and also promoting the multiple tourist qualities of the municipality, it is decided to intervene in the entire area of the station. Therefore, a building and an urban park are built at the two ends of it. A cultural building that is designed with the intention of being confused with the street, it tries to become a part of the path. This creates a connection between the street, a public square and the building itself. At the opposite end, a new underground passage is created, it allows the two parts of the municipality to be more actively linked. In direct contact with this new access, an urban park is built, this park gradually saves the level to reach the train station. Thus the intervention area turns into a route that facilitates the pedestrian and road traffic.

EAT, LAUGH, LEARN - खाऊ, हँसिलो, सिक्न ArchSharing competition in Nepal 2018

Due to the large extent of complexities currently present in Nepal, it is proposed a construction succinct to traditional building methods and local materials that allow a great integration in the setting-place and ensure the endurance required to face seismic forces as well as responding to the need of being economically affordable. Under these criteria and adding the possibly of finding slopes in the ground, bearing stone walls are disposed over a plinth according to a square-shaped proportion that will contribute to the stability of the building as well as to the isolation of the inner space thank to the thickness of the massive envelope. In relation with the climate issue, the high frequency of rain, especially during the monsoons season, lead to propose a double roof system solution that favours a fluent air renovation and an easy water evacuation thank to the superior mono-pitched deck. Beyond solving all the requirements related to the setting place, the building intends to give a wider and general answer to society. The independence of the three bodies and the extension of the plinth offering the possibility of an enlargement, allows functional flexibility if the programme ever comes to a variation. In this sense, the design in the meanings of technic and space, chase to be closer to the almost unreachable value of permanence for KatmandĂş's inhabitants both in physical and cultural terms.

APARTMENT BUILDING and KINDERGARTEN Coursework. Projects 4, 2016

This apartment building is located in the valencian Eixample. In it, there is a very consolidated building typology forming closed blocks. Therefore, the new building is intended to respond to this same principle. The brick is therefore chosen as constructive system, which will provide the solid appearance pursued. The intention that governs the project guidelines is to introduce the street, the public space, into the building. For this, the type of housing is chosen by corridor, conceiving them as streets that lead each house and that will also allow to establish personal relationships between the neighbours. Even an unconventional piece is designed, a clothesline cage or laundry room in the corridor. In short, a container of activities that can be carried out without the need for privacy that the spaces inside the home provide. To emphasize this idea of a street in the interior, the brick will be used in all exterior and interior walls, as well as a floor that intones with it, such as a ceramic tile of the same hue. The core of the block is used by building a kindergarten that lives thanks to two longitudinal and parallel courtyards, it is organized around the main courtyard functioning as a cloister, turning all public spaces into it. While the classrooms turn to the side yard, so it makes every class have a private outdoor space that allow children to be in permanent contact with the outside and nature.Â

General section

The campsite is located in a special place, one of the few where the Valencian orchard and the sea are still in contact. The only downside, a highway that bothers both visually and acoustically. On this basis, it would be most appropriate to turn to the crops and the sea. Thus, the set of cabins is located in the back of the plot, acting this as a wall that serves as a barrier with the highway, and at the same time creating a transition from the most solid and permanent elements to the ephemeral and changing sea. A grid organize the entire complex, three groups of cabins appear that, when separated, make possible the appearance of smaller places, squares, where the inhabitants of the place can interact. The space between two of these groups of cabins expands to place the reception and the administrative area. Here it is located the main entrance leading to a bleacher that finally allows access to the public area bounded by the multipurpose building. There it is posible to find the library, the restaurant and the social club, spaces strongly related to the exterior and nature. Finally, the caravan area is located by closing the plot and in direct contact with the orchard, enabling a walk along the pre-existing ditches that cool and make the stay more pleasant. Therefore, there is an attempt to design a complex where the most important thing is the environment and the contact of the guests with it. PRODUCIDO POR UN PRODUCTO EDUCATIVO DE AUTODESK

MUNICIPAL YOUTH CENTER Coursework. Projects 3, 2015

Main elevation

Ground floor This Youth Center in the Valencian Eixample aims not to break the city's scheme, allowing circulations around the building without the need to enter it. In this way, the pre-existing passage that connects directly with the market is preserved and a new one that links the main street with the core of the block is built. To continue adapting to the city, it is designed a section that tries to gradually descend from the adjacent tall buildings to the central square that is found at ground level. The building is articulated due to two orthogonal courtyards that break the youth center into three blocks, these blocks will contain complementary uses that at the same time require to be slightly isolated. The seven-story block, which adapts to the tallest buildings in the block, contains entrepreneur workshops that need more privacy. On the other hand, the most public areas, the exhibition hall and the newspaper library, are located on the ground floor of the central block and are built on double heights to obtain amplitude and spatial richness. Leaving the rooms that require more privacy on upper floors. Moreover, the conference hall is located in the isolated block, as it is susceptible of being used when the main building is closed. Thus, it is proposed a building that lives thanks to its interior courtyards but at the same time overturns to the street and de public space. MARIA SALVADOR VICIANO | 29

It is proposed a space that unifies the organic and the straight, hidden between the recesses of the garden, which simultaneously invites to contemplate the exterior and what it houses inside. A greenhouse that, starting from a regular base, the hexagons, manages to create an irregular, organic shape that matches the picturesque character that defines the area of the garden in which it is located. A design capable of combining technique and art. A space in which the structure is more than a support, a network of metal trees that serve as a container for the real ones and that in the same way contain the necessary facilities to make their life possible. A combined with an envelope that helps the building to blend in with its surroundings. A space whose interior is reserved for vegetation and its study. This is achieved thanks to some paths that with the progression of heights help discovering different species of tropical plants. These routes lead to the only piece that does not emerge from the ground, a spiral staircase that goes up to an elevated platform that allow visitants to contemplate the greenhouse and its vegetation from an unusual perspective. FARMSTEAD "EL TORRENTĂ?" Coursework. Architectural Conservation 2017

The farmstead dates from the 18th century, originally it was composed of a set of buildings. The dwelling was located on the ground floor, meanwhile the second floor used to be a food storage. It was resolved to a lean-to roof. Also on the facade another annexe of two heights was attached that would originally be used as an agricultural tools warehouse. Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries other blocks were built for housing, shed and garage among others, The entire complex eventually became into a construction of great heritage value and strong identity.

The exterior appearance of the farmstead shows a medium state of conservation. Moreover, inside, the lower floor shows large humidities and detachment of both ceramic and plaster coating. In addition, on the upper floor a great deterioration affects the structure as well. Thus, by means of this restoration project, the structural consolidation of slabs is initially carried out to avoid the collapse of the roof. Furthermore it is essential to apply thermal protection and waterproof techniques to minimize damage caused by atmospheric agents inside both the dwelling and the upper chambers. In addition, it is wanted to extend the useful life of current materials with the minimum replacement and preserving, above all, the character and aura of the building. The intervention is used to redistribute the interior of the farmstead by differentiating uses between the housing block, the shed, the stable and the upper rooms, thus providing them with greater flexibility and enabling them for more current uses.

THESIS BACHELOR'S DEGREE THESIS

SCHOOLS IN DENMARK 1950-1970 ARQUITECTURA ESCOLAR EN DINAMARCA 1950-1970

Maria Salvador Viciano

Tutora: Clara Elena MejĂa Vallejo Trabajo Final de Grado, Noviembre 2017

Architecture and education are two concepts that are slightly related since the 19th century, but it was not until the middle of the 20th century that the governments of the United States and the great European powers turned their attention to new educational methods and overturned the traditional way of building schools. Thus, the architectural space became an indispensable element in the learning process of the students, being impossible to develop the new educational methods in the traditional teaching rooms. Denmark was very involved in the educational scope and therefore it would become an overriding factor in the development and research of these new educational methods. With the study of four of these schools and their comparison, the evolution of the new method is appreciated. In addition to being a research period, it is possible to analyze the success or failure of some of the solutions adopted.
