BRIEF: Bipolar disorder or manic depression has been affecting a large amount of people in recent years. The design of a health centre that specializes in bipolar disorder, would be ideal for the site that creates a variety of feelings to its visitors (ROAD-ANXIETY, RIVER-SERENITY). Inspired from the site, I designed a small health centre that will provide an accommodation for four patients, a psychological support, as well as a creative activities in the nature, that will bring them closer to the it and therefore to their peace. Other features that the building will offer to its visitors and patients is a café/restaurant, study area and roof garden where patients and their families can spend their free time.

Conncetion with the Nature: The element of nature based on many psychological researches can influenced positively the mental health of people. For my project (Bipolar disorder Health Centre) that was really important to be used.
Void: Void is also an important element which helped to a better accomplishment of this project. Void allows natural lighting within the building but also the transfer of all sounds and smells of the surrounding area within the building (bringing the nature into the building).
CONCEPT: The building follows the idea of a box within a box. The design concept of the proposal was inspired form the site. As the site combines both tranquillity and security(river) as well as anxiety and fear (road), so the building does. People that suffering by bipolar disorder tend to change mood constantly. Garden in the middle of the building, offers to patient the serenity (correlation with the river), as the rest of the building enslaves a fear and anxiety(correlation with the road).
Transparency: Transparency is directly connected with the idea of the layering, by using as less walls as possible. Through the use of glass and openings the concept of creating an internal-external relationship became stronger.
Layers: BOX WITHIN A BOX Concept Diagram
One of the most important features is the creation of an internal and external spaces. Spatial Layering played a catalytic role on the project’s implementation. As the main concept will be based on the connection with the nature, layering will help on the achievemnt on two patterns (external-internal and public-private relationships).
Aspects that taken into consideration: External area:
Circulation:
1.Provide monitored external sitting for waiting
1.Provide rest sitting at convenient locations in corridors
2.Provide canopy for shelter from wind, rain and sun 3. Planting trees, plants and shrubs
Internal Spaces: 1.Visible/recognisable reception/information point 2.A variety of sitting arrangements
2.Corridors should not twist (better observation)
Patients’ Bedrooms: 1.Unobstracted views 2.Family zone: provide privacy 3.Ensuite shower/bath
2
Design’s Principles: 1.Light (use of glass, void in the middle) 2.Safety (private spaces placed on the upper floor) 3.Observation (no twisted corridors, limited amount of internal separated walls) 4.Colour/ Materials: Use of natural materials and colours that contribute to the reduction of stress 5.Group Interaction (Gardening activities, Variety of sitting arrangement that encourage interaction) 6.Access to Nature (large windows, roof garden, garden in the middle of the building)
3
Model Making Concept Model
Desccription of the model: The model depicts the idea of layering but also but also the phychological change of the patients. Black represent the sadness and white represents the happines(characteristics of bipolar disorder).

Outdoor Space and Facade Analysis:
7 Shading Wood Panels of East Elevation n.i.s
Roof:
Shading:
The roof of the building helps to avoid overheating problems. As the roof protrudes, it is provides shading on the lower floors of the building.
East side of the building, contains wooden louvers so patients can have the ability to see outside of their huge windows(connection with the view), without the sun overheating their rooms during the day.
Materials: Materiality was also an important aspect for the implementation of this project. As it is mentioned above, this project is aiming to heal patients through the connection with nature. Natural materials give you an impression that you are outside, reducing in this way the anxiety of patients. In this project, the use of wood and concrete dominates.
EAST ELEVATION n.i.s
North Elevation in context1:100

External Area: Etxernal area, is also an important aspect of a health care centre.as it gives to the patients and their families the chance to spend time outside. This project provides a covered sitting area so that people can always have the opportunity to go outside, without depending on the weather conditions. Based on the healing architecture, a welcoming external area, contributes to a better health of the patients but also to their visitors.

January’s trip in Porto
Brief: January’s trip in Porto was a great opportunity to discover and analyse the architecture of another country. By taking photographs, sketching and recording different places and buildings of Porto city, we managed in a short time to find important architectural features of the city. Through the process of the three tasks, that we had to complete in groups, we appreciated the importance of observing. Visiting some of the most important buildings and landmarks of the City as well as by wandering its streets, the following sketches were draw.

FRAME THE CITY,FRAME THE STREET
Site Analyisis
Opportunities of each of the aspects of the site
Main Design Project Brief:
11
Bristol voted as the United Kingdom’s most artistic city for 2019. Decorating the street walls of Bristol one of the most well known artist Banksy, Bristol can rightfully hold this title. Influenced by this side of the city, the creation of a centre that works as a Headquarter building of the Up fest, as well as providing gallery and exhibition spaces, is perfectly align with the needs of the city. Art exhibition and gallery spaces that will collaborate with the Arnolfini Gallery will provide a help for street artists and performers to become known to the public.
Concept: “Frame the City, Frame the street”
Site Location:
Axes:
The site is located in the centre of Bristol City. As the proposed site is one of the most visited and easily accessible areas of the city, the development of a public space will be profitable for the society.
Area’s axes are really important to be protected so that the development of a new project will not ruin the arrangement of the area’s elements. Axes of the site also helped to the orientation and shape of the building.
Public Space:
Routes:
The proposed site is located between two of the largest public squares that are used daily from people for their movement. However, they are also used as venues, festivals and events areas. The proposed site works as the link of the two squares, making in this may the movement of pedestrians smoother and the site easily accessible from both sides.
The area of construction is easily accesible pedestrians from all the sides of the harbour. As vehicles, can have an acess to the site only from West side of the area, safety rates are rising for users of the building.
Views played a catalytic role for the proposal building. As the main goal of the project was the creation of joyfull feelings the idea of framing the most famous places of Bristol helped me to achieved it. Based on phychological researches, one of the most common way to create feelings of happiness and enjoyment is through the nature and the connection with human. By framing the most important points and tourist’s attractions of the surrounding site area, I created an internal- external relationship between the visitor and the nature.
The surrounding area was considered before the start of the project’s design. Materials, shapes, forms and colours, contrubuted to an easier development of this project.
Topography was also an important aspect that was taken into consideration.

Facade-Use ofOPENINGS Building: In order to attract the attention of the thousands of visitors that are visiting the site, external concrete scaffoldings were placed in order to highlight the main use of the building.
Outdoor Space-Use of Buidling: Outdoor space, reinforces the idea of higlighting the use of the building. By creating an external Street Art Gallery, visitors will have the opportunity to paint on the concrete wall panels of the area.
15
External space: The external area is related based on the views and the most important features of the surrounding area. Paths as well as concrete canvas-walls “guide” visitors at the entrances of the proposal building.Paths and concrete canvas- walls are compatible with the movement within the site, so that visitors’ transition into the building seems smoother and unavoidable (follow the path).
Section 1:200
16
Permanent Concrete Scaffolding:
Façade analysis:
The main use of the building, is based on the Street Art and the Upfest festival. In order to highlight the use of the building from the outside, permanent concrete scaffoldings were placed, giving in this way the opportunity to artists and tourits to paint all around the building.
The external area of the building is the one that often determines the passer’s decision on whether will get inside or not. The proposal building aims to fully inform the passer about its content from its outside appearance. Building’s facades with the several of concrete staircases and scaffolds, as well as the thousand graffities on the external walls make a small introduction to its visitor about its use.
The external shapes became after a correlation with a rock mountain. As it is recognised the combination of the asymmetric shape as well as the exterior concrete constructions, refer to a sculpture, which in turn refers again to its use (Art Gallery).
A diagram that represends the relationship between concrete scaffoldings and windows.
Through the process of finding a way to show the operation of the building from the outside, heating problems were also solved. The exterior concrete construction also works as a window’s protection from the sun.
Section 1:200 Each building’s floor provides different interests and needs of the user/visitor. Ground floor provides an area of relaxation and entertainment, first floor provides the art of theatre and performing and the last two floors provides an educational character as it includes an art gallery with the exhibition spaces, workshops and a library.
17

18
The main use of the building is based on the implementation of the Upfest Festival that is taking place every year in Bristol. During the year, building offering its spaces to the visitors in order to explore the world of the Street Art. Each July, when the festival beggins, the area become more crowded as both outside and inside building’s surfaces are painted from visitors and famous artists. However, building is also used from other street performers, giving them the opportunity to show off their talent. A multiple-use theatre and a temporary Art and Exhibition Spaces are accesible to the public daily. Finally a restaurant/cafe/bar and a library are in the building thus covering many of the visitor’s interests.

The structure of the building is a combination of concrete loadbearing and concrete frame. As the building has a large void in the middle of it, the choice of the correct strucure was important for the implementation of a safe building. Cores are made of a loadbearing structure for a better stability of the building.

This year I had the chance to have my work experience at one of the largest architecture offices in Cyprus. Working in three similar situation projects in different countries, I compared not only the differences of their architectural styles, but also the differences based on the rules, Building Regulations as well as the procedure you have to follow in order to start and deliver a project succesfully . The renovation of the “Seven” hotel in Paris, was the main project that I participated this year, as I got involved with all the spaces of the hotel: lobby, rooms, spa, corridors. I deeply understood the concept as well as the aims of the renovation. It was my first attempt to include in my ideas and proposals the financial sector as well as the competition including a specific budget that the clients can invest in it. I had the chance to deal with construction and detail drawings as well as to learn more about the architectural style in France.

Map Hotel, was a great opportunity for me to see the drawings come to life. As the renovation was taking place in Cyprus, I was able to visit several times the construction site and discuss not only with the clients but also with carpenters, aluminium workers ans well as interior designers about the progress of the hotel. Chalcidice’s villas design was an incredible opportunity for me to understand that despite the similarities in culture and history between Greece and Cyprus, the architecture and identity of many of the Greek islands reminded nothing of those of Cyprus.

The lobby always operates as the hotel’s mirror. Is the first impression the visitor gets when I visit the hotel for the first time. So the design and the atmosphere it conveys to the customer is extremely important. For this project, cause of the limied space of the hotel, the idea was to create a multiple-use lobby, where customers can use according to the time of the day. with the help of the large furniture that is placed in the space, visitors can enjoy their morning coffe and breakfast, their afternoon tea and their drink and dinner during the night. Using earthy shades and natural materials, lobby gives moments of calm and relaxation to its clients.

The lobby area in proportion to the number of rooms the hotel provides is quite small. for that reason the creation of smart furniture, gave us the opportunity to gain more space for a seatiting area. This furniture, despite its use as a divider between the rooms and the lobby’s seatting area, it also serves as a storage space for client’s suitcases.

Based on the number of the suites, the name of the hotel is inspired. The hotel includes a total of seven suites, one suite on each floor. Each suite, despite their same arrangement and layout, represent a different meaning of the number sevven. With the use of different furniture, paintings, wall’s colours and materials, each one has its own concept. The main idea is that each of the room as well as the whole design of the hotel to be chic and glamour.

MAP hotel renovation in Nicosia was also an important project for my evolution as an architect. As the project was taking place in Cyprus, I had the opportunity to visit several times the construction site and see its progress. It was fascinating for me as for a first time, I had the chance to see all the drawings come true. Working in different parts of the project, I achieved to gather a lot of information about the design and construction of such a large project. In addition to my involvement with the hotel’s restaurant on the ground floor, I also dealt with the design of the roof top bar of the hotel as well as the public toilets that the hotel have. 0.40

Chalcidice’s project enables me to helped me to realize the differences between a permanent home and a home that will mainly be used for a short time during the summer vacations. It was important for me to review not only the facilities should have such a house, but also the sizes of the rooms as well as the arrangement of the houses . Working on the sections and elevations of the building,I learned new materials and techniques. The most important knowledge I gained was the use of an inverted beam, which helped us to hide the unwanted visible beams within the house.
