How often should my students play working memory games? My suggestion based on the research studies is for working memory games to be played for just 5-10 minutes each school day for one quarter of the school year. After nine weeks of gameplay, you may choose to continue the daily practice with one or two students who you think are still struggling or have made significant gains that you don’t want to lose. This could be a great warm-up activity in reading groups or other small group/differentiated instructional periods. Your students might also find it valuable to revisit the games periodically throughout the year.

A through explanation of what working memory is, why kids struggle with it, and how they can benefit from working memory practice. The brain research studies behind these games proving that 5-10 minutes of practice for 8-12 weeks is enough to product significant working memory gains in elementary children. A mini-lesson to introduce the games and the concept of working memory to your students. Simple suggestions for integrating daily partner games into your regular routines. 15 different working memory games, each on its own printable card (spanning visualspatial memory, auditory skills, letters, words, and numbers).

This product includes everything you need to conduct working memory practice in your classroom:

A challenge activity on every game card for students to try as their working memory increases. 6 pages of fun, colorful game materials: just print and cut! 2 optional work mats to help students organize the game materials. Black and white versions of all materials and cards.

Although the games are perfect for two player math stations, math centers, math tubs, etc., you can engage your students in meaningful problem solving discussions by having them all play the same game at the same time for about 10 min. per day.

Integration of higher-level thinking and critical thinking skills (not just rote practice) - Hands-on activities through which kids actively construct knowledge: no worksheets! - Options for open-ended game play so that students are not "finished" until time is up - "Math Talk" questions/prompts to encourage students to analyze strategies and reflect orally or in writing about what they're learning

Grammar, reading, vocabulary, speaking. Just keep reading!

Watch Your Step Watch Your Step is a fun educational maths game which helps to teach your child simple number bonds. Each player will need two coloured counters. You will also need a die and a copy of the board below to play this game. Put your counters on the "start" space and throw the die. Now choose how to move both your counters so that both moves total the number on your die. So, for example, if you threw a 6, you could move your counters 6 and 0, 5 and 1, 4 and 2, or 3 and 3. Be careful how you move, however, because any counter landing on a "face-space" has to go right back to the beginning of the game! The winner is the first player to get both their counters to the "finish" space.

The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only an outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. It became very popular in Europe for a time then, and then again during World War I. It is one of the most popular dissection puzzles in the world.
