2013 THE GODFATHER’S COWL

By MARIA ZILAKOU

The Godfather’s Cowl by MARIA ZILAKOU A Christmas gift to a dear, dear friend who is also my son’s godfather, this cowl is supposed to be knitted in a soft, chunky yarn. The stitch used is beginner – friendly, I’m going to use this pattern as a teaching supplement for my knitting classes, so it has to be easy, yet challenging enough. It is knitted in the round, of course, and it is supposed to be a fun knit, so have fun! MATERIALS 1 skein of Himalaya Joyfull Colours Size 8mm circular needle Size 5,5mm hook (optional) 1 Stitch Marker Gauge is not important for this kind of project.

INSTRUCTIONS Cast on 63 sts and join to work in round. I recommend using a Stitch Marker to mark the beginning of each round. Rounds 1+2: *P3, K1*. Repeat between** until the last 3 sts. P3. Rounds 3+4: *P1, K1, P2*. Repeat between** until the last 3 sts. P1, K1, P1. Repeat Rounds 1-4 until desired length. The sample is 24cm long and 30cm wide, when folded in half. I believe that’s a nice, generous cowl. Bind off all your sts and then, work a sl st edge around top and bottom edges of the cowl, if you feel like it. I like this clean, finishing crochet touch in my knits. Piece of cake, isn’t it? Now go ahead and knit one to wear or to give to someone dear to you! Happy knitting!!!
