Save the environment Reduce and Re-Use
When we talk about our environment we mean everything in the world around us which can affect our lives.
There are lots of things that we can do to make our world a better place.
By reducing waste, we are helping to protect:
Trees water
places where animals live the air we all need to breathe.
What can we do to protect our environment?
Have you ever heard of the 3 R’s?
Reduce Re-Use Recycle
Reducing Reducing is creating
less waste.
How can YOU create less waste? • Pack your lunch in a lunchbox instead of a disposable bag • Ask your parents to bring their own bags when shopping
How can YOU create less waste? • After you wash your hands,
brush your teeth, or get out of the bath, make sure there's no
water dripping from your taps. • Take a shower instead of a bath
How can YOU create less waste? • Switch off lights when you're not using them • Turn off your electronics and
when possible unplug them
Re-using Reusing is taking old items that you might consider throwing away and finding a new use for them.
Reusing helps in situations where it isn't possible to
reduce.
What can YOU re-use? • Donate clothes that no longer fit you • You can also donate toys you
no longer want
What can YOU re-use? • Use plastic groceries bags as garbage bags • Tell your parents to use worn clothes as cleaning rags.
Use your local internet site to post your free item and people who are interested in it will contact you.

Recycling Recycling is changing old products into new
ones so they can be sold again. For example, bottles and cans are taken to a place where they can be reprocessed into many new things. They may be changed into new
bottles or cans, or other things like bicycles.
What can be recycled? The most well-known recycled
materials are glass, paper, plastic, and aluminum. Other recyclable materials include batteries.
