In-N-Out, The Burger Dynasty

This billion dollar burger joint was a hit when it started and still is now. In-NOut was founded 70 years ago in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder. They newlyweds had married shortly after just meeting each other the year prior in 1947. They opened their first location in a middle-class city about 20 minutes shy of Los Angeles in Baldwin Park, California. Harry and Esther started out with a simple and clean cut menu where they were the only employees at first. The expansion of In-N-Out happened surely but slowly, Harry and Esther were careful to choose every next location also refusing to buy anything on credit. During the early 50’s they had both of their son’s Guy and Rich who would later also be greatly involved in the company as well with the expansion of the family owned restaurant. Just as the company was skyrocketing with already 18 locations, Harry Snyder passes away from lung cancer in 1976. It was at this time where inheritance became questionable between the 2 brothers. Rich, the more traditional and logical of the brothers became president. On the contrary, Guy, was more of a rebel and also struggled with a drug problem. A born again Christian, Rich decided to share his faith and add bible verses to the cups and burger wrappers. With a vision still in mind, it was in 1993 when Rich was killed when his private plane crashed.

Rich’s passing leaves his brother Guy and his niece the only heirs left to further takeover the chain. A few years later in 1999, Guy Snyder dies of a drug overdose. Remaining after these tragic passings leave Esther and her granddaughter (daughter of Guy Snyder) to manage the growing empire. In 2006, original founder Esther Snyder died. Lynsi Snyder, the very last heir and only granddaughter of Esther and Harry was to carry-on the family legacy at only 24 years-old. The now 36 year-old and billionaire says she doesn’t have any plans to modify the menu. She believes the simplicity of the menu is what makes the family ignited company so special. In-N-Out can also be expected to be served at events like the Oscars or celebrity gatherings and after party’s.Everything about the company and the decisions they make is made strategically. For example, the majority of their locations are purposely to stay in Southern California and microwaves and freezers are banned from all premises. Snyder says. “I like that we’re sought after when someone’s coming into town. I like that we’re unique. That we’re not on every corner. You put us in every state and it takes away some of its luster.” Lynsi is now the youngest billionaire in America and is also featured in Forbes magazine. However, the previous company owners as well as Lynsi Snyder have limited their exposure to press, interviews and prefer to keep a low profile. Glassdoor has also ranked Lynsi the 4th best CEO in the country.

JAIL BIRD SAMUEL

Samuel Little, a 78-year old prisoner, has just became the new american serial killer. Little was born on July 7, 1940, lived in Ohio with his family and was mainly brought up by his grandmother. Growing up he had some discipline problems and went to jail for the first time while still in high school for breaking and entering private property. He had then moved from Ohio, shuttling between different states making a living off of theft and robbery. In 2012, Little was arrested in a homeless shelter in Kentucky and then was transferred to California for a drug charge. While there, Los Angeles police had obtained and linked a DNA match to Little for three unsolved murders in the area in 1987 and 1989. Little had pleaded innocence to the murders but was convicted in 2014 and was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences without parole for beating, strangling, and killing the three women. Investigators then began looking deeper into little’s background, looking through cold case files to see if he was connected in some way.

In the spring, Little began opening up and speaking to investigators in exchange for a prison transfer. He was then transferred from California to Odessa Texas. Little confessed to killing in 16 states, atleast one victim in Jackson, one in Cincinnati, three in phoenix, and one in Las Vegas. Little mainly targeted women who were involved with prostitution and drugs, making their deaths look like drug overdoses and natural caused accidents. The murders go all the way back from 1970-2005 and so far the FBI have linked him to thirty-four murders with many more pending. Little clung to details when he talked about the murders. He revealed all of the states he had been to and remembers clearly how each victim looked, how he killed them and where he buried them. He describes how he picked up vulnerable women and how he strangled and killed them in the backseat of his car. One investigator said “Talking with him, you can hear he actually gets excited about describing his homicides and describing how he strangled his victims,” “ he looked you right in your eye and said he couldn’t help himself. He’s a monster.” How a serial killer could go on killing for years with no one noticing the patterns is astounding but sadly thousands get away with murder every year. In little’s case the murders happened throughout the country and he went after victims who he knew wouldn’t be reported missing, but if the FBI can prove that little killed all the women that he said he did then he could be the most prolific serial killer in U.S history.

THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL

The Mississippi kid Baby Elvis It was the evening of January 8, 1935, when Elvis Aron Presley was brought into the world (Manson, 11). Must have been cold for little naked Elvis to be born in January don’t you think. Something else came beside little baby Elvis, and it was the gloominess of his twin sister “Jesse Garon Presley” that had died at birth according to (Manson,11). As the years go by recovering from Jesses’ death, Vernon and Gladys Presley “mother and father” would take Elvis to church to sing gospel songs. They wouldn’t just attend church but also revivals where they would worship the lord by singing gospel music. As Elvis grew older, his mother taught him to be polite and have discipline in front of other people (Manson, 12). Elvis would also get his good looking dark hair from his genes having Cherokee blood from his mother’s side of the family (Manson,9). As Elvis gets older, he would, later on, have to move to Memphis where the hardship is even worst (Manson,19).

Teenage Wasteland The begging of his high school life started at Humes High School. There Elvis found out what teenage years are all about. He would be the shy kid in the back of the class with his head down but listening to the teacher. While in High school he went through bullying all because he was different from everyone else. The kids that bullied him would throw stuff at him and beat him (Guralnick,36). Elvis’s teachers said that he would have outstanding grades not having any problem with interrupting the class like the other halogens. He was also told that he couldn’t sing by his music teacher so his anguished heart made a bet with her to prove that he could sing. The following day he brought in his six-string and sang in front of the whole class, and they were amazed(Guralnick,36).

Heart Breaker, Life Taker Just as Elvis was growing in the music world, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 (Washington post). As much as Elvis wanted to keep his smooth, golden, hair he couldn't. Once they cut his hair, he still looked too good according to (BBC). Sooner or later it was bound to happen as Elvis was deployed to Frankfurt, Germany with an armored division. Now doesn’t that seem sad, to have been a rockstar living it up nice and the government takes you form all that. Elvis must have been pretty disappointed and mad. His job overseas was to drive his officer around wherever he needs to go. But wherever they would go the German girls would try to talk and distract Elvis from his duty. The girls were so crazy they attempted to jump the base's fence to try and get to him (Washington Post). During all that time Elvis was promoted to Sergeant, and he took his friends everywhere to drink and party hard (Washington Post).

Blinded by a fist full of diamonds  As Elvis was done serving his country, he went right back into doing what he loved the most, and that was, of course, making music. But something was different this time around, Elvis was a different type of musician than he was previous times. Elvis would be so angry with everyone that worked for him, and he would get annoyed with the littlest things. He got mad at the PA people for using speakers with telling him, and that made him mad because he never performed with gigantic speakers(Guralnick,402). He was like a diva to the music world. But besides his unnecessary mood swings, he would also make every decision and get mad at the people who went against his word. Like every douche bag in the world, he made himself a target of hatred and violence, leading to the threats that he would receive (Guralnick,401). It even got to the point where he was threatened with a bomb at one of his concerts but found out about the threat once the concert was over(Guralnick,401). Not just his music career that made its way for the dumps but also his love life. His girlfriend Kathy was feeling miserable with her relationship, all she wanted was attention(Guralnick,403).
