ThinkDIF Festival The Ellen MacArthur Foundation will stage the first Disruptive Innovation Festival (DIF) in 2014, bringing together thought-leaders, entrepreneurs, businesses, makers, learners and doers to catalyse system-level change for a future economy. Over four weeks, using a mix of online and face to face events, participants will have an abundance of opportunities to explore the economy through a different lens. A challenged linear ‘take make and dispose’ economy can be replaced by a more prosperous regenerative and circular economy - is this the ultimate disruption?”
Design for a Future Circular Economy The Economy is Changing. What do I need to know, experience and do? Learn how to apply Design Thinking to design Circular Economy opportunities. Join us for 'Open Mic Session' as part of Think Disruptive Innovation Festival in Amsterdam. What does our life look like in 2030? We realize our current system is breaking down. But what is next? Increasingly critical we look at the way we live, work, travel, produce and consume, learn and stay healthy. Yet, what kind of exciting opportunities does the future has to offer to us? And how do we accelerate the change we want? How do we keep up with current—and future scenarios? During the 4-hour session we will explored and designed for a Future Circular Economy in combination with trends like big data, internet of things and sharing economy. The focus of the training was ‘learning by doing’. By using the step-by-step process of the Circular Economy Thinking Canvas, we learned to explore the values and goals of end users through a human-centered approach. Together we will work at a real life challenge. Here-fore we will use various tools which are seen as the fundament of the Service Design Thinking. ___

The participating pool of experts discussed the challenge of the transformation towards Circular Economy. The challenge for the Circular Economy is not only to focus on the hardware as raw materials and such. But moreover to invest in the software like people and ideas to design services. 
 Its not only about possessions, but also about the experience of service.

Reflections What have you learned? We should have more talks like this That there are out there numerous people that have the background knowledge, skill and dedication to make the first steps towards an economy that has no longer as an only focus GROWTH.
What did you miss at the session? More time and a different challenge, more doing Time for completion of the canvas-task A few more minutes, if not hours in which the two sides to meet and discuss how the resulted service would satisfy the requirement of the circular economy. What has surprised you? The level of thinking and sharing There are (luckily) even more expert in the CE realm than I expected The passion and dedication of the participants. What (disruptive) insights came to you/were again confirmed? To have it 'landed' in society takes time That value discussions (when not heavily facilitated) only lead to intangible values (norms/attitudes) instead of financial, material or ecological values. For me, the biggest insight was the analogy between the ideology of the circular economy and a religion. I think that this metaphor should guide people searching for a way to spread their views and convictions about how our economy should look like. We thank you for a great talk!
