Psychology & Social

Evaluating the familial social relations and behavior as a result of the accessibility of genetic information and knowledge of inherited behavior from parents. The project explores these potential changes through objects designed to be passed down through generations as inheritance, symbolizing the passing of genetic conditions.

Aquaponics exhibits the symbiotic relationship between different life forms and how one can benefit from the other. The fish benefit from the plants ability to clean and oxygenate water while the feces of the fish provides essential nutrients for the plants to thrive.

The study of micro-organisms, they way they communicate and colonize their environment, along with the mechanisms and purpose they employ provide parallels with human colonization. They teach valuable lessons regarding symbiotic relations and selfsustaining systems as well as the potential for future society.

INTEGRATION

Discussion & Mystique

Installations of tanks filled with bioluminescent jellyfish will be scattered throughout the city in abandoned and city owned properties. The tanks will provoke discussions about “out of the box” opportunities in the abandoned properties as well as create a mystique surrounding the hotel. The conversation will expand to other cities by projecting live video of the fish tanks in other city’s most heavily trafficked public spaces.

Science & Health

Medical research and scientific research are on and the same. Sylar will host doctors and scientists from the Atlantic City Medical Center as well as around the world. As a research resort, we hope to entice the most progressive thinkers to the hotel to surround and immerse themselves in their practice, both through research and study as well as relaxation and rejuvenation. Sylar will serve as a meeting post for the forward thinkers.

SYLAR Conceived as a Research Resort for the Atlantic City community with the aspiration to become a channel for global networking.

SPATIAL STUDIES

spatial studies

In order to clearly understand the size of our site, Casino, we conducted a series of spatial studies, the size of the building with local New York City

The Revel comparing landmarks:

1. Museum of Natural History: 1.6 M Sq Ft 2. The Standard Hotel: 204, 500 Sq Ft 3. New York Public Library: 646,680 Sq Ft

SPACE PLANNING CONCEPT MODELS

In order to obtain a clear path for spatially organizing the Revel Casino, we sketched concepts and then continued with model studies.

FLOOR 1

CONCEPT

From the model studies we landed on a radial spatial concept. Research towers throughout the podium would create a radial system where SYLAR program would extend. We studied the pre-existing plans as to where the towers would be located and found they could easily be retrofitted into the podium.

P-DISH Inspired by an arrangement of flowers, the design of the restaurant is a clustering of stands where new avante-garde food is displayed on sculptural structures. The experience is an updated food court, but instead of arranging food by nationality, they are grouped by method of production, i.e. 3-D printing or flavored gases.

THE SALT CAVE

the salt cave

Inspired by the sculptures shape, the Salt Cave provides a wide breathe of avant garden spa treatments: in the larger more public zone, there is a kelp pool for rejuvinating skin, a bioluminesent salt water pool for detoxification, snail pool for skin softening and a “doctor fish pool for skin renewal. Also offered are smaller niches as seen here in the plan to provide more private sessions for visitors for other treatments like a nightengale facial.
