THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DEVELOP A TESTING SITE FOR PREFABRICATED COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL UNITS LOCATED NEXT TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY BUILDING. THIS SITE CREATED THE PERFECT SCENARIO FOR CONSTRUCTING AFFORDABLE UNITS FOR PEOPLE THAT USED TO HAVE THEIR BUSINESS IN THE OLD MALL. THIS BECAME AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY TO TEST DIFFERENT SITE CONFIGURATIONS, AND SEE WHICH ONES COULD CREATE A GREATER IMPACT ON THEIR HABITANTS. THE CONFIGURATION PRESENTED HERE CREATED 4 DIFFERENT OPEN SPACES THAT TOGETHER COULD PROMOTE THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE RESIDENTS LIVING IN THIS SITE, AND THE PEOPLE COMING FROM THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS. THE SPACES CREATED BY THIS PARTICULAR CONFIGURATION ARE A COMMUNITY BACKYARD, PUBLIC COMEDOR, DINNING, AND RESTING AREA. JUST LIKE THE BUILDINGS CREATED IN THIS SITE, THESE OPEN SPACES ALSO BECAME PROTOTYPES OF POSSIBLE WAYS TO IMPROVE THE WAY PEOPLE USE THE PUBLIC SPACES.

THE GOAL WAS TO DESIGN A RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX LOCATED AT VALLE DE LAS PALMAS, MEXICO. THE DESIGN SOLUTION SHOULD BREAK AWAY FROM THE COMMON GATED COMMUNITIES THAT ARE CREATED BY THE BIG RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRIES IN MEXICO, SUCH AS GEO. THE PROPOSED SOLUTION WAS TO CREATE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF UNITS THAT ONCE COMBINED TOGETHER WOULD CREATE SPACES FOR TRANSFORMABLE AND PRODUCTIVE AREAS FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL UNIT. THE RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX WAS ALSO ARRANGED IN A WAY THAT BOTH INNER AND OUTER TRAFFIC CAN COME IN AND OUT EASILY PROVIDING GOOD CIRCULATION. THIS WOULD BENEFIT THE RESIDENTS BY CREATING NEW BUSINESSES AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD, WHICH WILL IMPROVE THEIR ECONOMY.

CORRELATION POINTS
THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A LIBRARY SPACE FOR THE NEW CHILDREN’S MUSEUM. THE CHALLENGE WAS TO INCORPORATE THE EXISTING ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES IN THE BUILDING SUCH AS THE STAIR CASE, ELEVATOR AND CONCRETE COLUMNS TO CREATE A LIBRARY SPACE THAT WAS ADECQUATEFOR KIDS, AND FAMILIES ATTENDING THE MUSEUM. THE DESIGNSHOULD PROMOTE PLAY, READING AND THE EXPLORATION OF THE LIBRARY. THE PROPOSED SOLUTION WAS TO DESIGN A LIBRARY SPACE USING BONGEE ROPE AS A WAY TO DIVIDE,CREATE SPACES, AND MAKE FURNITURE. THE INTRODUCTION OF ROPE IN THE FURNITURE WILL MAKE PEOPLE EXPERIMENT WITH THE MATERIAL, AND SEE ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS THAT A SIMPLE ROPE CAN BE USED FOR.

THIS DESIGN PROPOSAL WAS TO CREATE AN INTERVENTION THAT COULD REVITALIZE THE AREA AND BECOME AN ICONIC FEATURE FOR TOURIST TO GO AND VISIT WHILE THEY ARE VISITING SAN DIEGO. MY DESIGN CONSISTS OF EXPOSING PEOPLE TO DIFFERENT INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENTS, MAKING THEIR STAY A JOURNEY AT THE PARK. MY APPROACH WAS TO EXTRUDE SURFACES THAT COULD CHANGE THE EXISTING TERRAIN, AND AT THE SAME TIME WOULD PROVIDE SHADE FOR USERS. THE EXTRUDED SURFACE IS A GREEN RAMP THAT WOULD BE COVERED BY GRASS SO PEOPLE CAN WALK OVER IT AND TAKE A SEAT TO LOOK AT THE BAY. THE GREEN RAMP LEADS TO TWO DIFFERENT VIEWING DECKS, WHERE PEOPLE CAN TAKE A LOOK AT DIFFERENT VIEWS OF THE CITY AND THE BAY. SOME DECKS HAVE THREE DIFFERENT STEP LEVELS THAT SERVED AS SEATING, SO PEOPLE CAN ALSO REST WHILE THEY ARE UP THERE. THE DESIGN ALSO OFFERS AN UNDERGROUND SPACE THAT COULD BE USED AS A GALLERY/ EXHIBITION SPACE FOR ARTISTS. THE TOP OF THE GALLERY IS SEMI COVERED WITH A ROTATING SHADING STRUCTURE THAT IS ACTIVATED BY THE SUNLIGHT. THE SHADING STRUCTURE PROVIDES ILLUMINATION FOR THE SPACE WITHOUT EXPOSING IT COMPLETELY TO THE OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT. THE DESIGN ALSO OFFERS A WATER CHANNEL THAT LEADS TOWARD THE OCEAN. THIS WATER PATHWAY IS MADE OUT OF TERRACES, SO PEOPLE CAN TAKE A SEAT AND CONTEMPLATE HOW THE WATER PASSES BY, AND AT THE SAME TIME ENJOY THEIR TIME AT THE PARK. THE WATER CHANNEL ALSO HAS A ROW OF ROTATING SHADING DEVICES TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM THE SUN EXPOSURE.
