GENERAL OBJECTIVES
1. To improve speaking skills. 2. To identify the principal aspects of an outline 3.To recognize the audience and purpose of the speech.
PREPARE THE SPEECH
TIP #1
1. Write an outline 2.Write down the topic, general purpose, specific purpose, central idea, and main points. 3. Organize your material in the most effective manner to attain your purpose.
PRACTICE THE SPEECH
TIP #2
1. Take the time to go over your notes several times. Once you have become comfortable with the material, practice a lot. 2. Practice in front of the mirror or practice with your dog. Â
TIP #3 KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE!Â
To whom are you speaking? Learn as much about your listeners as you can. This will help you determine your choice of words, level of information, organization pattern, and motivational statement. Remember that your speech is about them, not you.Â
BE YOURSELF!
Let your personality come through. Tell a funny story in your speech, and you will certainly grab your audience’s attention. Audiences generally like a personal touch in a speech. A story can provide that. Don't be nervous just try to enjoy it!
TIP #4
USE EFFECTIVE LANGUAGE 1. Your body language reveals important clues about you, your message, and your relationship with your audience. Also, when you speak, the stage is your world. Show your listeners they can have confidence in what you're telling them by commanding the space around you.
TIP #5
2. Use your voice and hands effectively and omit nervous gestures. 3. Don’t read unless you have to because reading from a script or slide fractures the interpersonal connection.
TIP #6
USE ATTRACTIVE AUDIOVISUAL AIDS
This material can clarify your content, or capture and maintain your audience’s attention. So, be careful about colors and types of words.
