The Mariemont City School District Board of Education and the State of Ohio Department of Education establish minimum requirements for high school graduation.

The following are the graduation requirements approved by the Mariemont City School District Board of Education.

ACADEMIC CREDITS

Subject Credits Needed Specific Requirements

English 4 Mathematics 4 Must include 1 unit of Algebra II or the equivalent Social Studies 3* Must include 1 unit each of World Hist, US Hist, and Amer Gov. Science 3

Must include Biology and Chemistry/Physical Science

Health 0.5 Physical Education 0.5

Fine Arts 1

Needs to be obtained through Flex Credit or PE Waiver. PE Waiver student must complete 0.5 credits in another curricular area. May include 1 semester (0.5 credits) from MJHS.

Electives 5

Includes any combination of world languages, fine arts, business, careertechnical education, technology, English, math, science, or social studies courses not otherwise required. Credits earned beyond those required in any of the above subject areas roll over to this section.

Credit Totals 21 *Beginning with the class of 2026, a semester course in financial literacy is required for graduation.

COMPETENCY AND READINESS

In addition to meeting credit requirements, students must Demonstrate Competency and Demonstrate Readiness for their post-secondary paths. Students will take six end-of-course exams in Algebra I, Geometry, English Language Arts II, Biology, American Government and American History.

Students demonstrate competency in foundational areas of math and English by earning a passing score on Ohio’s high school Algebra I and English Language Arts II end-of-course exams. Students who do not pass the exam will be offered additional support and must retake the test at least once.
