In the spirit of our Destination 2026 strategic plan, Mariemont City Schools believes that student learning will be enhanced through diverse curricular options and enriching experiences that drive deeper understanding and skill development and support global competency.
This is why I am so proud of our award-winning Warriors BEyond program. This K-12 initiative allows students of Mariemont City Schools the opportunity for experiential learning beyond the traditional classroom. It seeks to foster passion and interest explorations through hands-on experiences.
The core of the Warriors BEyond program begins in elementary school with Explorations, continues through junior high with Expeditions and caps off at the high school level with Intersession and Master Class.
Elementary Explorations provide our fifth and sixth grade learners with their first opportunity for regular interest-based, experiential learning. These student-selected courses are designed to grow curiosity, discover new skillsets and expand passion exploration. Our goal for Explorations is to foster a love of learning which will grow with the students through their time in Mariemont City Schools.

Students in 5th and 6th grades will begin each week with a 90-minute, interest-based elective that will take place on Mondays. Each Explorations session will last six weeks with a showcase following each session! All Explorations are hands-on, ungraded and focused on giving students the opportunity to learn more about a topic that intrigues them!

Explore the Underworld!
Have you ever wanted to know how South American and Mesoamerican traditions, like the Day of the Dead, relate to Greco-Roman holidays, like Feralia and Lemuria, and mythological stories about the Underworld? Join us as we use games, expert guests, artistic creations, stories and VR technology to explore the connections between cultural traditions from different sides of the world.

Have you ever wanted to find ways to make others smile? This Exploration is for you! Modeled after actor John Krasinksi’s show during the Covid-19 pandemic, we will be putting together news clips, activities, letters and videos that promote laughter, kind hearts and making you and others smile.
Recorder Jam Session
Did you have a blast playing the recorder in music class? Come and explore the recorder in a whole new way! Play your favorite pop songs on your favorite instrument.
Day of the Dead Alter Art
Do you love learning about different cultures and holidays? Do you love art? Students will work in a team to create sculptures and artworks for a Day of the Dead ofrendas display at school. Sculpt a skull from clay, cut a papel picado from tissue paper and more!
Nothing But Net
How would you do with a racquet in your hand? If that sounds interesting to you, you’ll love to explore the possibilities of this Exploration. We’ll spend time on a court playing games like pickleball, volleyball, and badminton.
Board Games Galore
Ready to play a variety of board games? Have you heard of Goblet, Qwirkle? Canasta? Bananagrams? Have you ever played Chess, Scrabble or Racko? Join in the fun for this Exploration where we will teach you how to play some games and give you time to play.
Run Like a Warrior
Do you love a good workout and running for a good cause? Let’s get out and run/jog/walk in order to get in shape to finish a 5K. The Warrior Run is right around the corner and you’ll be ready to run for the cause with hundreds of others in the community!
Bullet Journaling
Do you enjoy creative writing and drawing? Join bullet journaling where you will learn how to create pages in a bullet journal to help you plan your life and year and also have a creative outlet to do so.

Embroidery 101
Have you ever wanted to learn more about the art of embroidery? Embroidery is a delicate craft that uses needle and special thread. Students will develop embroidery skills and learn various stitches. The final project will be a work of embroidery hoop art or even handembroidered accents on clothes or accessories!
Pet Pillows
Do you love your pet? Students will work from a photograph (that you bring in) to design, stitch and create a soft sculpture of your pet. Learn skills in realistic painting, working with acrylics, sewing and working three-dimensionally. End up with a huggable pillow version of your best friend!
Masters of Strategy
Do you love games? Do you like to test your strategic skills against your friends? If so, this is the Exploration for you. Jump into the world of traditional tabletop games and challenge your classmates! Learn and play games such as Chess, Stratego, Chinese Checkers and more to push your skills to the limit.
S.T.E.M. Challenger
Can you make a mousetrap car and get it to go the distance? Can you create catapults, paper rockets and more? Join us for this Exploration to learn how to take on all of these challenges.
Twisted Trivia
Do you think you are the smartest person in the room? Are you interested in learning the most random facts in the world? In this Exploration you will test your brain and knowledge in various games of broad knowledge and quiz type games!
Masked Singer
Students will spend a few weeks designing costumes for the big performance! Then, students will get to wear their costumes (masks) and sing for the BIG competition! Each week will be videotaped and sent out to the teachers for a vote! Who will win the Mariemont version of Masked Singer?
Movement & Music
Do you like to move? Do you like music? How about combining the two? Students will use music to inspire movement, creativity and imagination, as well as fun with fitness and physical activity. This class encourages friendly competition - involving elimination activities and point-system-based games to teach good sportsmanship while winning and/or losing.

Mythological Monster Creation
Are you interested in mythology? Learning a new language? Design your own mythological creature, learn beginning Latin terminology and end up with a three-dimensional sculpture of your animal. Use wire, foil, plater craft and paint to bring your creature to life.
Kindergarten, The Sequel . . . In Spanish
Do you still wish you were in Kindergarten? Bring your favorite stuffed animal or pillow to relive the best parts of the kindergarten year, this time in Spanish! We will sing traditional children’s songs from Latin America, read classic children’s books in circle time, replicate Aztecan and Mayan yarn paintings, learn clapping games in Spanish and much more!
Surviving the Digital Age
Have you ever wondered how to maximize the technology that you have in your life? This Exploration is for you! We will teach students the necessary skills to thrive in the 21st century. For example, keyboarding skills, digital citizenship, professionalism (i.e. email etiquette), working with various aps/technology, etc.
Behind the Scenes
Have you ever wondered what is happening behind the curtains or back stage at a performance? Behind the scenes of any play or musical is a crew that creates scenery and props, designs costumes, works the lights and runs the microphones. This Exploration will allow students to dive into the work that goes on backstage to create amazing shows. They will learn how to operate the lights, control microphones and speakers, create scenery, props and costumes!
Sci-Fi Fantasy Club
Love Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and other scf-fi and fantasy novels and series? We will do activities and have discussions centered around the books and series!
Remote Control World
Interested in the world of remote control cars? This Exploration might be for you! Race track, off-road, big, small, fast, slow - we’ll try it all!!
Geocaching
Real-world outdoor treasure-hunting experience! In Cincinnati there are 4,300 pieces of geocaching gold. Will we be the next to find the next one? Let’s combine a mix of hiking, orienteering and the underground (literally) world of Geocaching.
Creative Expression
Are you ready to unleash your inner muse? Students will explore all aspects of the imagination, including visual art, drama, music, dance, creative writing and storytelling in order to create an atmosphere of self-expression and creativity! Many activities will promote fitness and physical activity as well.

Do you like to sew and work with fabric? Join us as we try new techniques with stitching and layering fabrics to make beautiful quilts and colorful soft collages. We’ll also experiment with fabric dye and batik.
I’m Puzzled
Do you love puzzles? Puzzles are a great way to exercise the mind and relax with friends. In this Exploration, students will put together jigsaw puzzles and create and complete word and number puzzles. The final project will be to design and create their very own jigsaw puzzle using photos or original artwork!
