Receiving Your iPad The iPads will be distributed during “iPad Rollout” events. Students in grades 3-12 will be issued their iPad, case, charging cable & brick, and stylus (if applicable).

iPad General Care

Students in grades K-2 will be assigned an iPad during the first week of school that will be kept at school.

While students in grades 3-12 are permitted to take their iPad home, it remains school property and all users will follow these guidelines and the MCSD Acceptable Use Policy and Student Handbook. Students are responsible for the general care of the iPad they have been issued. Any iPad that is broken or fails to work properly must be taken to the school’s designated helpdesk.

iPad Check-in and Pick-up At the end of the school year students in grades 3-12 will turn in their iPads for update and maintenance but will keep their charging cable, charging brick, and stylus (if applicable). These students will be issued the same iPad the following fall. If a student withdraws from our district during the school year the iPad must be returned at that time. iPads in grades K-2 will also be collected for updates and maintenance at the end of the school year.

General Precautions u As recommended by Apple, use only a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to clean the screen. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol swabs, or any other cleaners.

u Do not carry the iPad by pinching the screen or by the keyboard alone.

u Do not disassemble or attempt to do any physical repairs to the iPad.

u Keep your iPad out of extreme temperatures, away from hot or cold surfaces, and away from water.

u The iPad is provided for the sole use of the student to which it is assigned. Do not loan your iPad, charger, cable, or pencil to other individuals.

u iPads must be free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels that are not placed on the device by the district. (Excluding cases, see personalizing your iPad)

u Excessive pressure on the iPad screen may cause damage. Avoid putting anything on top of the screen or placing too many items in a backpack with the iPad.

u Keep your iPad clear of food or drink.

iPads Left at Home or Not Charged The iPad is like any other resource critical to the intended learning for the day. Students are responsible for bringing their iPad every day fully charged. If students leave their device at home or do not charge their device, a loaner device may or may not be available for student use that day. If this becomes a chronic problem, students may receive disciplinary action.

Personalizing Your iPad Students in grades 3-12 may personalize their device case with stickers and their lock screen/home screen with photos/images that:

w You are required to passcode protect your iPad and keep the passcode confidential.

u Do not cover the district identification label or cover any other district identification tag placed on the case, stylus or keyboard.

w At any time, a school administrator may request your passcode to access the district owned device.

u Do not violate any part of the student handbook. u Are school appropriate and do not offend others through symbols, sayings, or pictures. u Do not violate the school/district policies with the presence of guns, weapons, alcohol, drugs, gang-related symbols or inappropriate language.

w If personalization becomes a distraction to the learning atmosphere a student’s iPad can be restricted to certain permissions (such as inability to personalize a lock screen).

Personal Apps Students in grades 9-12 may install appropriate personal apps from the Apple App store. If this becomes a distraction to learning the student’s iPad can become restricted by the district on what app are allowed. Students in grades K-8 may install apps from the JAMF App Portal on their iPad. MCSD will, within reason, provide configuration settings that will not allow inappropriate content/apps/music to be installed on the iPad. All students will have access to our App Request form. This form will allow students to request apps, both education and entertainment based. The app will be reviewed by a committee consisting of teachers, administrators, and, if applicable, parents.

Storage and Backups

Acceptable Use Policy

It is recommended that students regularly back up data to the cloud storage provided by the school. Syncing your device and/or backing up your device regularly will allow the restoration of all data. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that work is not lost due to mechanical failure or accidental deletion. Do not expect that files stored on your iPad will be private. MCSD officials may review your files and communications at any time to ensure you are using the iPad appropriately.

The use of the Mariemont City School’s technology resources are a privilege, not a right. The privilege of using the technology resources provided by MCSD is not transferrable or extendible by students to other people or groups (such as siblings) and terminates when a student is no longer enrolled in the district. If a person violates any of the user terms and conditions named in this policy, privileges may be terminated, access to the school district technology resources may be denied, and appropriate disciplinary action may be applied. Students may not jailbreak, modify, or in another way tamper with the iPad’s operating system. Removing any or all installed profiles is strictly forbidden. Violations may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension and/or expulsion for students. When applicable, law enforcement agencies may be involved.

Lost/Stolen/Damaged If an iPad is lost, it must be reported to your school media center, teacher, or office as soon as possible. The district technology team will use “find my iPad” to assist in locating the iPad but it is the student’s responsibility to recover or replace an iPad that cannot be located. If an iPad is reported stolen a police report must be filed and an investigation will be conducted.

Apple ID’s Mariemont City Schools will create an Apple School Managed Apple ID for each student. This allows for 200 GB of free iCloud space and access to our internal app store that will provide pre-purchased apps for students and staff.

If an iPad is damaged, has a broken screen or is not operating correctly, do not attempt to gain access to the internal electronics or repair the iPad. Report the problem to your media center, teacher, or office as soon as possible. iPad repair/replacement options will be determined at that time. _5_

If a stylus is lost the student is responsible for purchasing a replacement if they wish to have another.
