Graphic Art ©Marie Seltenrych 2016 Chapter 1 Do Dragons Fly? Princesses Hadley and Skylar are ruling their Kingdom will great skills: they adore the people of Chipolata and love rolling down hills.

One day while seated on their thrones so very smart, they sigh and look at each other, each seeing into their sister’s heart.

“We need a pet,” the pair say and laugh right away.

“A kitten or puppy would be just so nice,” “What about a guinea pig or a goldfish, they are cheaper by twice...”

“Let’s go for a stroll and see what we think.”

They pair leap from their thrones and walk into the garden of pink.

“What a beautiful day, but there are clouds on the way,” says Princess Skylar with a frown. “We must get that pet without delay.”

“Hush, I hear a strange sound, right down on the ground; behind the blue bush, let’s take a quick look.”

The pair venture quietly towards the little bush, and there on the ground is a strange creature that lets a teeny squeal with its eyes opened wide, a most attractive feature.

“Our new pet. It’s a kitten I think, and I love it so much,” says Hadley, picking up the pink little blob that let out a sob.

“It purrs, so it must be a kitten,” says Skylar to Hadley. “Let’s take it inside and give it some milk to drink.”

A dish full of warm milk, straight from the great cow, was placed on a cushion and the little one seemed happy now.

Two princess knelt down and stared at their new little pet.

“It is so thirsty and it is so pink that I adore this little puss. We will call it “Bling, because it is such a cute thing.”

“That’s a nice name: it must be bound for fame. Hello, little puss Bling!”

Princess Rosehip rushes in and is in a big flap. “Something is wrong...”

“Shh, Bling is taking a nap.”

“Bling! Oh yes, I beg your pardon, but I have just come from the garden. Please, princesses, you must come at once, the clouds are gathering and Evil is ready to pounce.”

“You seem so perturbed, we must listen to your word.”

“Look!” Dark clouds outside the castle window swirl and gather like smoke from a bush fire.

“He’s raging fire and brimstone, and he is not alone.... Everyone is so scared.”

“We will have to have a chat with Mrs. Basket to see what this means,” the princesses reply. “Now hide our little Bling before she gets upset and sees this thing.”

They cover little Bling with a cute blanket put her into a doll’s swing.

After a deep conversation with Mrs. Basket that very night, she tells them of a time when everyone had to hide for fright.

“There were dragons and monsters all around, up in the trees and in holes in the ground.”

“How did they go away?” The princesses asked this question in a way, that made Mrs. Basket think hard.

“I cannot remember. I really forget, for it was a long time ago and I remember something about a bard....a song of sorts.”

“Music, is that the answer, to make this creature go away, or will we have to fight him in a battle one day?”

“Yes, something like that,” Mrs. Basket was in such a flap. “Now I must bake some cakes for the poor little snakes that roam near the river and make everyone quiver.”

“You are too kind, and we give you a gift that we hope you will find useful for the work that you do.”

They gave her a gift of gold in a small velvet bag. “Please do not tell anyone, do not brag.”

“Why, I am so impressed, princesses Hadley and Skylar Onion, I thank you. My life is in your hands. I will not protest.”

Mrs. Basket bowed to the pair, holding onto her chair, for her feet were no longer steady and she needed a lift from her bent back that started to crack.

The princesses left in the dark, black clouds made it so. “Come on through the forest we must quietly go.”

The pair had already made up their minds, to fight for their kitty they had left behind in the castle, sleeping like a little babe. They will protect their precious little pet.

“Our little kitty is safe, but we must find our more. Why did that Dragon darken our door?”

The pair waited in the woods, quietly eating a handful of edible flower buds.

“Look who is coming this way. It’s the dragon, breathing fire and cleaning his way with its flame and its fire.”

“We must find a way to stop this dangerous creature, from taking our castle and bringing such a horrid dark feature.”

The pair snuck away as quick as they could, darting and dashing through the underground of the wood, a special place that only they knew, a place where there was light and servants to help the twins through.

The pair had already made up their minds, to fight for their kitty they had left behind in the castle, sleeping like a little babe. They would protect their precious little pet.

“Our little kitty is safe, but we must find our more. Why did that Dragon darken our door?”

Chapter 2 Do Dragons eat Pie “We must visit the library and find out what happened and make our kingdom safe once more.”

The library is filled with books from ceiling to floor. The pair climb on a chair and soon find lots of great stories to explore. So distracted are the pair who promptly forget what they came to seek, until one book pops out and Hadley takes a peek.

“Here’s a book that I found that might help with this problem. It tells about dragons, monsters and dangerous things.”

The pair are quiet as they read this book, so much so that they forget to look, what is going on with little Bling until it leaps up onto their laps and makes a sound like a gentle ring.

“Hello, why you startled me,” Hadley says, with a huge grin. “You are too cute for words, and you have a teensy wing...”

“There’s another wing here, that is very clear,” Skylar says, “It is not an ear.”

“Yes, I think this is not a little kitty,” Rosehip poked in here head. “Look what I found in a book just like the one you are reading now...”

The princesses gasped as they saw the picture of a dragon who looked like a picture of their pet ‘Bling.‘ “Look now.”

“Look Bling, this is a picture of you, and I think you look like something we never even saw in a zoo.”

Bling purrs like a kitten and snuggles close to the princesses, who give her a cuddle and promises of new dresses.

“We love you so much, and you are silk to the touch,” said Skylar, with a huge sigh. “We are so glad you are a girl.”

She strokes its tiny wrist.

“And not a boy,” Hadley adds with a smile and a twist. “Because a boy may eat all our pie.”

“Dinner is served,” pronounces the servant with a bow.

“Majesties, your pie is served and is ready to eat, warm zuccini and apple is your delicate treat.”

The four scurry to the dining room. Places are set all around, with the princes on the far side, Queen Broccoli and Princess Radish sit at the head and tail of the long table.

Everyone fusses over Bling and give her milk. The Queen and her friend appear startled at first, being adults and not having child’s sweet minds; but soon grow to love the cuddly little Bling, even gives her some of their sparkling water to quench her huge thirst. Everyone agrees that it is really cool to have a new pet to feed.

Darkness descends over their feast as they eat. Queen Broccoli orders everyone to hide under the tables and chairs, and the servants alerted to get their weapons prepared.

“We must go to our room now,” Princesses Hadley, Skylar and Rosehip yell as they move throughs corridors and stairways of darkness with a biff and a pow. Their Kingdom is now at war and they are thinking of the book, the story and the moves they must make for their kingdom is surely at stake. “We know what to do,” Skylar rells Hadley and Rosehip as they rummage through their wardrobes to find suitable clothes to wear as super princesses and their weapons of war.

“You must stay here, Bling,” Hadley whispers to the scared little thing. “We have to chase the dragon away, because we know who it is, and He is determined to cause havoc for ever, every day.”

“Yes,” he wants to make sure you never grow up, and we think that’s terrible, and we will never give you up.”

Bling echoes a small grunting noise, jumps on Hadley’s shoulder; she leaps in surprise.

“She wants to come with us, and I think she should too. For she will be a queen in her own right, over the land of Rainbows and Dragons, and must live to rule.”

“But what will you do, for this dragon is cruel. He wants to take over our Kingdom and rule.” Rosehip asks her princess friends. She puts her hands together and tried not to cry. “We must try.”

“We must include Prince Bubblegum to find our way to the Dragon’s Den. Where is that boy and why does he disappear just when we need him here?”

“He had a fight with his brothers, Prince Walnut and Bluebutton today. I think they are enemies and he just won’t say.

He was very quiet tonight.”

“That is terrible, and a shock to hear. What are we going to do now, my dear?”

“We must find the magic binocular and go away to that land, I say, where Dragons are ruling and smoke is billowing all day.”

“We must wear these clothes, they have magical powers, to help us to get through all the fires and arrow showers.”

The princesses don their outfits and seemed very pleased. “We look like a bunch of robbers and thieves...” said Rosehip, with glee. “By the way, I know where the binocular is, for I put it away when the boys were asleep. I hope it’s still there, shall we take a peep?”

Chapter 3 Do Dragons eat Garbage?

The three princesses royal and their new found pet creep quietly through the darkness, up a ladder into the attic.

They push open a door and what do they see, the little green binocular, pretty as a green pea.

“It has loads of dust, are we sure it will still work?”

“I hope so, but we will just have to try... and we will need to be quick, because I hear the sound of someone nigh.”

They blow the dust away and sing the word, Binoc, and wait.

“I can hear someone coming up the stair. Hurry binoc,” Hadley quietly did say. She did not want to give the game away. Before their eyes the binocular did rise, until it fills the whole attic space and they almost cry.

“We must enter on the left side, not the entry to the rainbow ride.”

Hadley goes first, cautious and carefully. Darkness looms inside the lens. Groping along the wall her hand touches a small seal.

“I found it, she whispers. I found the secret door, phew!” The door opens to reveal a long pathway swaying as a swinging bridge, covered in a vibrant light of blue.

“Follow me,” she calls out. Princesses gingerly creep across the blue swinging bridge, fearful and careful not to fall down a ridge.

“There is a sign, it’s not very clear, but we can tell where it points to: we must never fear.” They come to the edge of the bridge; it has a steep side. “This is as far as we go. Oh no! Help!” The sound echoes into the deep, repeating the word like a singing bird. As soon as they shout, “Help” a flapping sound is all around. The princesses duck down, totally afraid. They stay so quiet that you can hear a stone fall a long way to the ground.

“Hey, I’m here to take you, and my name is Dragon Flop-Plop.” Down he plops.

Four pairs of eyes look up and are happy to see a friendly flying dragon with a smile on its chubby chops.

“Goo, ga,” little Bling cries from her perch.

“Hey there, remember me? I’m the second cousin of your Uncle Grouch.”

“Goo, ga,” Bling replies, her eyes light up. “Go, go.”

“Come, hop on board and I’ll take you wherever you wish whether high or low.”

Princesses declare: “We want to find out who is making these dark clouds and to stop this dragon from taking our light away, even in the middle of the day.”

“Yes, we sure do.”

“I see. Well, I can tell you that my suspicious are sure. I think I may know the one who is causing this grief. He is a terrible liar and also a thief.”

“But he is so strong and we have taken little Bling along. Her life is at stake, so we must not make a mistake.”

“I see. We must proceed with utmost careful integrity. We will first need to meet Miss Glitz, someone I am very proud to know. She loves to sing and loves to glow.”

“We will go with you, for this is such a big problem for our Kingdom too,” Princess Skylar says with a sigh. “So please let us try...”

“Miss Glitz will confirm all that you need to do. She is clever, lovely and I think she knows you too. When you meet her you can hear about her story, when she was in trouble and defeated old Gory.”

The four fly through the dark and the dim, it seemed to take hours to fly up into a cave that smelled peculiarly of dead flowers.

Chapter 4 Do Dragons Sing?

“The smell is the way we will track down that mean stoney dragon, Barbage, who is known for eating rotten garbage.”

Flop sat quiet on top of a flat rock. The three princesses, holding Bling, slid off its back and onto a dip in a track.

“We must wait here for an opportunity to draw near and to work on a way to keep this dragon far away.”

“Where is Miss Glitz?” Princess Rosehip asked, twisting her lip.

“Wait and you will see.” He leans over the edge and tugs on a long vine that is totally entwined. A crack appears in the rock. “You must not let Barbage see us for he will certainly be roused and will roar like a lion and sting, like a wasp or a bumble bee.”

Gingerly the princesses with Bling climb down Flop’s hump scaling the steep hill into the rock by way of the vine.

In the darkness of the rock, they move quietly along, listening carefully to the sound of a song. The song they hear is mellow and low, with tones that flow into the midst, then to and fro. The voice is sweeter than the sparrow or harp,

that rings through the tunnels giving guidance in deepest dark.

The sight of Miss Glitz is a wonder to see, a dragon with shimmering eyes; her garment glows as the way towards truth she shows. Her singing stops and she is still.

“Come inside and enjoy my little place, if you will.” She moves her great tail and turns with elegant grace. “Please take a seat in a trice and tell me your quest, and I will give my helpful advice, that’s what I do best.”

“Thank you so much. We do need a rest.”

Miss Glitz has a smile and she gazes far away.

“I see that you are followed by three figures of grace, but trouble surrounds them for they have entered this place with a dragon of power, Lucian, who gives presents of sweet things that are nice, yet he is filled with greed and vice.

Here are your weapons and rush to the fore. You must find the dragon while he is asleep, pour this on his head as you sing this song. It will put out his fire and change his dark desire.” Her voice rose in a quaver and the princesses heard no words, just special tweeting like a very sweet bird. “Now go and be strong.”

“Thank you, Miss Glitz,” said the princesses together. “But how do we remember this song? What happens if we get it wrong?”

“Listen and try,” she says with a sigh. The princesses listened and try hard to learn the tune she sang, but it was all in vain. “No no, that sound is like a squawk . Princesses Skylar and Hadley, you must listen and with your voice rise up and down, like waves of the sea and eyebrows that frown.”

It soon became clear that the singing was not nice to hear. The sound was like three donkeys braying.

“Oh, dear.”

Three princesses looked so sad. They never knew their singing was that bad!

Bling sat on Hadley’s shoulder; she began to tweet and sing. The sound was exactly right. Everyone smiled in delight.

“Bling must be the only one to sing. For her voice is sweet and true. Now go quickly for three figures I see wishing to outrun you. Their plan is to find Lucian Deblasta; help him to gain control of the Kingdom of Chipolata, with the King being the cruel and dangerous Barbage the one who loves rotting garbage.”

Flop leads the way, back through the cave. Three princesses and Bling race nearby as Miss Glitz waves goodbye.

They reach a crossroads, three figures stand in their way; while a fourth dark and drear, the bad Lucian, hides very near.

“You stole my binocular,” Bubblegum stands in the way, with a sword raised over his head, “thief I declare!.

“We borrowed it for a time! Is that a real sword you have right there?” Rosehip asks, stepping towards him with her nose in the air.

“These are plastic, but they can hurt you, so beware! Stand back, dear sister, for this is our quest. We are princes and we are the best.”

“Bubblegum, you are a disgrace, attacking your sisters in this terrible place.”

“Give us the binocular, please little girls, who are so sweet. I will give you some chocolates, cupcakes as a treat.”

“Do not bribe us and move out of the way,” said Hadley, then Skylar shook her head in dismay.

“You do not scare us and we must hurry to stop Barbage from waking, so that he will stop blocking the sun and raining fire on our land. Why don’t you join us, and give us a hand.”

The princes look at each other and at Lucian as well.

“This is a plot and I think they are weaving a smell,” cries Lucian, squinting his eyes. “If you go with them then I will attack all of you, surprise!” With that word he reached forward and with its teeth nabs little Bling.

“Hey, that’s our new pet and you have no rights to do that.” Hadley reaches out with her golden feather and Lucian’s wings turned to leather for 30 seconds only.. Quickly she rescues Bling.

“Your poor wing,” Skylar said, patting Bling. “Are you with us now? Give up your bad life!” Skylar said to her brothers, the princes with a teacher tone in her voice.

“I am with Lucian,” said Walnut, rushing to follow his screaming friend.

“And I am with you princesses,” said Bluebutton, “my life I amend.”

“I am with Walnut, because I am to take care of my wayward brother, I was told by my Mother. I know we can outrun anyone,” said Prince Bubblegum.

“Away with you then, grow up as wicked men.” Hadley says as she turns to their mission.

Princesses follow the smell from the den of the snoring dragon that gets louder and louder as they enter his cave, without a knock or wave.

“We are in. Quick, sing little Bling as I pour this lotion on his sleepy head” Hadley says as she snuck up on Barbage and Bling starts to sing.

Soon the princesses are full of success as Barbage stirrs lets out a breath, then rolls over and snores like a truck.

In the morning Prince Bubblegum, Prince Walnut and Lucian come strolling through the glade; they are still seeking Barbage but he has become afraid and ran into hiding away from the boys and now all that’s left is to play with their toys.

Lucian watches with his evil eye and wonders if he should join the boys and get his hands on a great toy, a truck or a car would be very nice, and a piece of cake, even a slice. He is hungry and tired as well, so he falls asleep in the valley of the dell.

The clouds blow away and the princesses are happy today, they play and they learn and know that all evil can be overturned.

Bling will stay with the princesses but says she must return to the Land of Rainbows on her throne to sit, but for now she is enjoying a time of happiness playing with her new Rainbow maker kit.
