Mariko grew up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She ear ned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Physics from Smith College. After working in advertising, she went on to study at the Conway School of Landscape Design and Planning, where she earned her MS in Ecological Design in June of 2016. Currently, she works as a landscape designer in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She is an artist, an environmentalist, and an oyster shucking champion. In her spare time, she enjoys growing all kinds of hot peppers, exploring new places with her dog, and travelling to visit her sister and niece in southern France.

The Merck Forest and Farmland Center is a 3,000+ acre research and education center in the beautiful Taconic Mountains. This project digs deeply into Merck’s mission and unearths new possibilities for the future. More specifically, the Merck Master Plan offers circulation and access alternatives, as well as site design alternatives that position Merck as a regional leader in education and nature immersion.

This plan explores how a seasonal tourist destination can provide an enjoyable experience for visitors while protecting the ecological resources and rural character that makes it a beloved place for locals. Community Food Engine/ Mill 180 Park
Easthampton, MA
Sept 2016 - June 2017
Mill 180 Park is an indoor hydroponic park located in a renovated mill. The park’s mission is to provide year-round universal access to a green space, enhance the sense of place in Easthampton, provide locally sourced food, educate how hydroponic farming works, and support community based programming. My work consisted of t-shirt design, poster production, event planning, and plant care.
