THE CITY

HOTEL ROOM «SAINT PETERBURG» Saint Petersburg is located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. It was founded by Tsar Peter I of Russia on 27 May 1703 and was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years (1713–1728, 1732–1918). It ceased being the capital in 1918, after the Russian Revolution of 1917

Very talented European architects created a magnificent ensemble that includes several palaces and parks. Saint Petersburg’s architectural style is influenced and even resembles that of Berlin and Amsterdam. However it is an imperial capital that seems to have been built as a monument to its own passing. A variety of architectural styles like Romanticism, Baroque, Neoclassical and even Art Nouveau styles, color the city in an unmatched way.

THE CITY

HOTEL ROOM «SAINT PETERBURG»

Saint Petersburg winters are long and cold. On average, the city is covered with snow 4 months a year. Many Russian writers wrote their most dark novels about St. Petersburg. The dark atmosphere can often be felt in the city, especially in the winter. With numerous rivers and canals, Saint Petersburg is sometimes called «Venice of the North». The Neva river, despite its modest length is the third largest river in Europe in terms of average discharge.

THE CITY

HOTEL ROOM «SAINT PETERBURG» Designer’s notes St. Petersburg has had a turbulent past. As Russia entered World War I in 1914, St. Petersburg was renamed Petrograd. In 1917's Bolshevik Revolution, Lenin's Communist Party seized power, Petrograd soon became Leningrad, symbolizing its transition to Socialism. In 1991, after a city‐wide referendum, the city of Leningrad returned to its original name of St. Petersburg and has since become a modern, rapidly growing commercial center, as well as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

THE CITY

HOTEL ROOM «SAINT PETERBURG» ARTISTIC & CULTURAL Whereas much of the splendor of the old buildings has faded in the ravages of time, the city’s reputation as a centre of the arts remains undiminished.

Another view of the city In between the architectural, artistic, and historical sites, there is also a gray, underdeveloped and industrial side of the city.

THE CONCEPT Saint Petresburg room’s design is inspired by the actuall city’s architectual style, landskape and history. I tried to create an artistic room that resembles one of the numerous rivers that crosses the city of Saint Petersburg. CURVES imitating those of an actuall river are the main geometric form in the room. It can be seen in the curved shape of the walls , the sofa and table. I selecetd blue and various shades of blue, as the main color palette – inspired by the river colors and its reflections. White is also used inspired by the snow and ice during S. Petersburg winters.

HOTEL ROOM «SAINT PETERBURG»

I also used gold color found on statues, shades of brown and yellow, found on most old buidings. Some details are in Red, a color long associated with Russian’s history and culture. Another strong element in the room is the dome (arc) shape, used on the window, resembling the roofs of the famous Saint Petersburg churches and the arched shaped canals. All wall art is made by local Saint Petersburg modern artists. Contradictions is a key element for this room’s conspet. The combination of different materials like copper (a material considered to be quit old) and metal ( an industrial material) and different styles like neo-baroque with industrial pieces reminds the guests the diversity of the city and the contradictions in every day life.

The beauty of jazz music lies in the unique talent of each individual musician who plays the notes. This artistry inspired our Jazz Glass collection. Each piece of glass that comprises the mosaic patterns is uniquely shaped and placed by the individual artisan's hand that crafts every mosaic sheet..
