REIMAGINING POVEGLIA INTERVENTION, REVITALIZATION
“Architecture has the capacity to transform our reality, what gives it a political dimension of maximum relevance.”
-Uriel FoguéThis project aims to imagine a new alternative future in the abandoned island of Poveglia, through architectural, cultural and ecological interventions. It is a highly situated project where the drawings became tools to explore multiple possibilities for a common sustainable future. We approach the existing buildings as containers of life, designing its new interior configurations. They are acompanied by new light-weight structures, designed to be respectful with the existing and become the support for the interventions and added functions.

Context and conflicts
1
Poveglia is an island in the Venetian Lagoon that has been historically relevant but is currently abandoned and looking to be sold. However, we believe this heritage deserves a different outcome. The main goal of the project is to present a possible complex alternative that would inspire and critically open the door to a diferent sustainable future. Through this strategy the history of the island is revalued; its architectures host a new life; the existing ecologies and habitats are reactivated and come in contact with a new community of conscious users and activities.
2
Elevation of full proposal
3
The existing buildings act as containers of new programs linked to the local culture and values (water culture, gastronomy, arts and crafts, ecology and agriculture, pleasure and nature...) They are accompanied by a series of light-weight structures. These have been designed to be respectful with the existing and support the new life of the island. We can establish four main purposes: elements that support biodiversity, support of human activities, tranformation and use of natural resources, new ways of transportation (water, air, land).

3Ls FOR LIESING EUROPAN VIENNA
“Reinventing the factory has the potential to engage the public in the cycles needed to create a self-sufficient city.
-Nina RappaportWe conceive Liesing as the LAB to test a new urban identity where ideation, design, production and leisure occur in the same urban space. We propose a new typology based on the triple L strategy: the spectacular L + the sustainable L + the flexible Lofts. Playing with the "L" of Liesing as a characteristic image, we combine a red L, highly industrial and containing logistics, with a green L, highly "natural" and social, and a potentially capable and diaphanous container space between them, the Lofts.
Year: 2017, EUROPAN Competition (w/PLAYstudio)
WINNERS
Location: Liesing, Austria Project developed in collaboration w/PLAYstudio. I was part of every step of the process: from concept development to visualizations and presentations. Author of images in page 7 and 10 : myself. Author of images in page 8 and 9: Jorge Socorro and myself.
The Red L: spectacular logistics (industrial processes and knowledge generation) The Green L: socio-environmental machine (gardens and native crops)
7
A core strenght of our proposal is that it is an open strategy. Allowing the combination of modular structures to develop along time, following the requirements of the clients and the site. Every building is shaped from the combination of a Green and a Red L, into horizontal creative plans or multiporpose vertical towers. The section shows the dynamics of the interior, where the bioproduction coexists with the hard industries and the creative workshops.
9
Urban landmark
When the industrial activity stops, the urban life is born again.
House of creativity
The proposal is not a closed solution, is a laboratory open to experimentation.
8
The proposal is not an isolated intervention, it shapes and transforms its context into a user-friendly promenade.

MoAN MUSEUM OF THE NILE
“Having an experience is taking part in the world.
-Olafur EliassonThe museum is located in a network of cultural elements, becoming an essential landmark. The main goal was to redefine the concept of a museum: no longer understood as a mere container of works, but as a built experience that makes users participate: the visitor's journey creates the museum. The core idea of the project is allowing the visitor to live the cycles that the river suffered (Flooding, Growth, Harvest); experienced not only in a visual way, but also tactile and acoustic. One is immersed both in the Nile and in the history of the creation of Egypt.
Year: 2017, Competition (Preselected) Location: The Nile, Egypt Competition developed with Judit Lastres, both participating equally.
-Part of the Nile-
11
The museum is a sequence of spaces, a journey through the growth cycles of the Nile (Flooding, Growth and Harvest) and therefore, of the conditions of the birth of Egyptian culture. The route begins by immersing the visitor in the water, entering the story that narrates the museum. The ascension through the staircase allows you to experience each cycle in a linear way. Finally, the visitor emerges to the open air, being able to contemplate the landscape of the Nile.

THE DORMER WINDOW MEDITATION CABINS
“I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.
-Gaston BachelardThe design for the cabin evolved from the triangular shape, representative of concentration and balance, into the concept of a dormer window: the most intimate and minimal space of a country house. The architecture was shaped into a deeply intimate stage standing over the ground level, allowing silence and a reflexive distance for the guest to concentrate on their introspective thoughts.

The translucent insulation panels shelter the user all year long, while making use of the natural daylight and transforming the cabin into a beaming refuge during the nights. The exterior timber skin protects the cabin, while visually integrating itself in the forest. The design of the interior was based in functionality: every function can be achieved through a modular solution that fits perfectly in the basic geometry that shapes the cabin. Both floors are connected through an opening that allows the heat to keep the whole unit acclimated.

A NEW HEART NEW RETAIL DEVELOPMENT
“Light is what gives joy to buildings.
-Jaquelin T.Robertson The center of Elche is in need of a renewal of its central market, with a design adapted to the current times. Our project responds to this proposal, while looking to offer to the citizens more than just a new building. The architecture must relate directly to the public space, even aiming to reactivate it. The historical market laked interaction with the exterior, and that is one of the main design strengths of the project. The design combines a sustainable approach with a powerful public image.

We offer the possibility of traversing the Market longitudinally, both through its interior and through the roof. This second route starts directly from the street level, allowing the terraces and roof to be spaces of uninterrupted use.
The new market becomes the heart of the square with the Historical Remains. It dialogues with the context trough the materiality, its direct views to the remains and the overall respect for the existing. An alignment is planned that respects the fronts of existing faรงades, ensuring a clean visual from all the streets that access it. The building is accesible from 4 points in the street level: Main entrance, secondary entrance, Elevator, and the external stairs.

WHAT IS A LIBRARY INTERVENTION, NEW ELEMENTS
“The library as a mall: no walls, no doors. Only the objects define the space
-Torres NadalThis project is an exploration on redesigning the central library of Murcia and opening its possibilities to become a cultural hub in the center of the city. A new light-weigh structure is added to host every possible extra function for the city, expanding into the plaza, that is also redesigned. This structure is accompanied by a collection of new elements: stairs, stages, frames... that multiply the creative possibilities.
