ulia Fiona Roberts was born in Smyrna, Georgia, to Betty Lou (Bredemus) and Walter Grady Roberts. Her parents, onetime actors and playwrights, met while performing theatrical productions for the armed forces. They later co-founded the Atlanta Actors and Writers Workshop in Atlanta When her brother, Eric Roberts, achieved some success in Hollywood, Julia decided to try acting. Her first film role in the

movie “Blood Red”. The movie didn’t go well at all but people started talking about her in Hollywood. In 1988 she played a pizza waitress in “Mystic Pizza” and then she co-starred with Liam Neeson in “Satisfaction”. Julia became a huge star basically over night when she became the whole world’s “Pretty Woman”. Suddenly, everybody wanted her. The papers wrote about her every day and the whole world talked about her.

The Oscar goes to ... ... Julia Roberts! In 2001, Roberts received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Erin Brockovich, who helped wage a successful lawsuit against energy giant Pacific Gas & Electric. The Oscar, an annual American awards ceremony, honoring cinematic achievements in the film industry. The awards, first presented in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, are overseen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

Julia became the first actress to win an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, a SAG, and a Critics’ Choice Award for a single performance.


Family and Charities Her Big Heart Even though you don’t hear much about it, Julia is a charitable person, not for the publicity in it, but for she knows what it’s like to need the help of others.

Roberts and her husband, cameraman Daniel Moder, met on the set of her film The Mexican in 2000. They wed on July 4, 2002, at her ranch in Taos, New Mexico. She disclosed in a 2010 interview for Elle magazine that she believes in and practices Hinduism. In September 2009, Swami Daram Dev of Ashram Hari Mandir in Pataudi, where Julia was shooting Eat Pray Love, gave her children new names after Hindu gods: Laxmi for Hazel, Ganesh for Phinnaeus and Krishna Balram for Henry. Roberts has also given her time and resources to UNICEF as well as to other charitable organizations. On May 10, 1995, she arrived in Port-au-Prince, as she said, “to educate myself”. The poverty she found was overwhelming. “My heart is just bursting”, she said.
