Designing The Fourth Coast

Meandering Reflection

Our design proposal for the floating barge exhibition is focused on the connection between people, land and water. Our proposal achieves this by bringing a connection to the Mississippi River through the form of our design and blending it in with nature rather than invading. To do this, we wanted the form to represent natural and constricted forms to mimic the shape of the river. We provided a system consisting of square modules that insert into each other to allow for adaptability of program needs. Throughout the project are accordion structures that break up the hard edges of the square modules to make the form flow more naturally.

To make the design blend in with nature, we decided to add laminated mylar to the exterior of the modules to reflect its surroundings This allows the de- sign to become a literal reflection of nature and gives visitors the opportunity to see themselves within nature This provides a unique and inspiring look, while also giving visitors a different perspective of viewing the Mississippi River and its surroundings. Overall, we wanted to offer a natural and open design that allowed the visitor to experience all the great things the Mississippi River provides us and share those experiences to inspire others around the world.
