There is no Hmong nation state. The Hmong culture is a nomadic ethnic group with no country of their own, held together by their traditions, culture, art, and cuisine.
Hmong Population per Counties 2010 Census
Hmong people migrated from the southern China to Southeast Asia in the early 1800’s. There they lived in relative isolation, scattered in small village groups. Today a significant number of Hmong people live in Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as other parts of the world. The complicated history of superpower struggles during the Cold War and the war in Vietnam ties Hmong people to the United States. From 1975 to 1980 more than 42,300 Hmong refugees had settled in the United States.
