Sixth floor: Double room

Fifth floor: Kitchen and services - Entrance to the shared floor

Fourth floor: Single room with extra bed

The apartments, which will host not only refugees and asylum seekers but also users who have the same needs (freelancers, students, temporary transfered people, ...), are placed in the spaces previously occupied by silos for storage of grain, taking advantage of the vertical development of the structure. The unit is the divided into six levels, marked by the presence of a piece of furniture that determines the munction. The cabinet itself, designed as a multipurpose capsule, allows to keep the free plan with greater flexibility even in case of future changes. Guests have the opportunity to enjoy a private space but communicating with other levels through of sheet metal staircase. Finally, the fifth floor communicates with a common area with two other apartments. The facade of Hennebique silos is left unchanged. The only change is the insertion of new fixtures in homes, and in color, with shades of blue of the sky and sea, complete the exterior trim. On the top level of the building, located in the tower, it stands a mosque.

The 24 apartments in the complex are located, however, isolated compared to the rest the facilities, in front of the building multifunctional greenhouse, so as to ensure more privacy to users. The apartments, which are accessed through the park on foot or by car from the north side of the valley, develop all on two levels: from 2.8 meters in height from street level, in two different types: the first, of about 59 sqaure meters, is designed for a couple and has one bedroom; the second, of 94.5 square meters, is thought for a more extended family, equipped with a single one. In both cases, at the ground floor there is an open but covered flexible area, usable by the user as a porch or as a future expansion of the appartment. Inside, the houses have no partitions to divide the spaces, but a piece of furniture that also functions as a screen between the private and semi-private. The windows are arranged only on the short sides that overlook the threshold spaces but lighting is guaranteed by the presence of shed facing south width equal to the entire carton which houses the individual units. Every apartment overlooks an interior patio so as to provide a common space shared by every eight homes.

Europan 13 miriorama year location team

2015 Ørsta, Norway Neostudio Architetti Associati, Francesca Esposito, Francesca Icardi, Daniele Galuppi, Violetta Gambino, Federico Martini, Marina Mori, Jacopo Melli, Matteo Roberto, Viola Remezzano

The exponential growth of cities is one of the most discussed debate in the 21st Century. Architects have to remember that the quality of life offered by a city is by far the leading factor in its competitiveness. In fact, modern cities have to be adaptable to the context of economic changes that most of European cities are currently undergoing. As Renzo Piano claims “Instead of continuing to make them explode, we should complete the fabric of the city.” Ørsta has grown sacrificing public and aggregation spaces. Therefore, the aim of the project is to design a flexible system of structures and urban objects that change Ørsta’s vision and that transform the town according to the new industrial and economical growth. The idea has its start from the definition of a vibrant town centre, where people play the leading role in the urban orchestra. Furthermore the project is thought to be easily repeatable in other towns that show same issues. The concept is based of one simple action: to trace a border. The border tidies up the town structure and once again it organizes the surronding elements. In Ørsta, the border becomes a building that works as a container. It contains parking lots, in order to clean the town from car traffic, but it also inlcudes an hotel, a public library, an auditorium strategically set in what has been defined as “Town’s Doors”.

miriorama

Miriorama, never-ending vision , comes from the Greek “orao“, to see, and “myrio “, which denotes a nearly uncountable quantity. It cam be described as a theoretical platform and a technical manifesto of Gruppo T, a group of artists reunited for the activities of Programmed Art . 39

The aim of the project is to give a urban and architectural definition to the town of Ørsta and to make it adaptable to changes. As a boundary, the structure defines the surrounding space through a clear and simple structural system. It takes the concept from medieval walls. It lies among the highway E39 and divides car from pedestrian traffic. The main function of the building is to contain parking spaces that are set next to Ørsta’s biggest attractions. The number of car parks grows from 1125 to about 1600 without stealing significant space to people mobility. The continuous facade is

interrupted in key points, where it is crossed by significant roads such as Vikegata. The two openings point out the strategical role played by this street, and a hotel is located on the top floor in order to attract tourist to the street itself. Moreover, a library is located in the direction of Ørsta’s educational area and a theatre lies on the sea. Three “holes” are used to divide parking areas from the facilities and to connect them to the street level.

42

The structure works as a limits for the new waterfront area, which has been freed from car traffic and parkings. The whole new “square” becomes a pedestrian zone. The aim of this design is to return the space to the citizens in order to define a liveable “square”. The squared pattern organizes the area and measures the lot. The chess-board drawing helps to define the lot and it allows moves in every direction. An abacus has been drawn in order to define the different uses of each square. Their functions are divided depending on the time frame they are provided for: permanent shape, temporary uses and future purpose. The area is also thought to follow a seasonal use: a first stripe is located next to the parking structure and its mainly use is during winter; a second one works excellently in autumn and spring; the last one is sited along the sea and creates with it a system of waterworks. Moreover, green areas are provided in proximity of the axes crossing the structure in order to recall the green belt on the outside. In the same way, the pattern spreads on the outside of the limit, completing the new urba scenarios. The extreme flexibility of the drawing allows a future extension of the waterfront and its facilities.

Studio Master 1 the flying bridge year location team

2013/2014 Genève, Switzerland Marina Mori

The Centre of Studies and Research of Modern Architecture in the city of Genève, is located inside of the great Jardin Anglais, in front of Lemano Lake. It wants to impose as a strong urban landmark, without blocking the continuity of the green below. For this reason, the project is perpendicular to the shore of the lake, creating a like building a suspension bridge. The center consists of a main block that contains the University of Architecture and an auditorium with 160 seats, and a smaller portion that overlooks the water, which is home to 10 apartments for researchers and their families. The project is covered with a new skin, constituted by an alternation of full and empty that allow the passage of light and make the building recognizable and unmistakable.

Laboratorio di Progettazione III A hole in the whole year location team

2012/2013 Montpellier, France Lisetta Buccellato,Francesca Esposito, Daniele Galuppi, Violetta Gambino, Francesca Icardi, Marina Mori

Montpellier, capital of the Languedoc-Roussilon region, is not only the 8th largest city of France but also the fastest growing city in the country over the past 25 years. Located on the south coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, it is the tirth-largest French city on the Mediterrean Coast. The main focus point of the city is the Place de la Comédie, with the Opera Comédie built in 1888. In the historical centre, a significant number of hotels particuliers can be found. The majority of the buildings of the historic centre of Montpellier (the Ecusson) have medieval roots and were modified between the 16th and the 18th centuries. Some buildings, along Rue Foch and the Place de la Comédie, were built in the 19th century. The Jardin des Plantes de Montpellier is the oldest botanical garden in France, founded in 1593. The Saint Clément Aqueduct, built in the 18th century, is one of the main attractive and monumental sights in the city. The University of Montpellier is one of the oldest in the world, founded in 1160, and having been granted a charter in 1220 by Cardinal Conrad von Urach and confirmed by Pope Nicholas IV in a papal bull of 1289. It was suppressed during the French Revolution but was re-established in 1896. The project is made for a new University Sport Campus, including two big colleges in one building. We re-used the existing building reorganizing the whole area, and we added a new part to contain new classrooms. We also enlarged the river, so that the buildings are “sculpted” by the water like stones. Very near to the University building we have the students dorms, which are connected directly to the University. The existing stadium is now surrounded by a park which also contain the ancient villa, revisited as a little museum and cultural space. On the other side of the dorms island we have the Campus bar, also part of the big park and well connected to the stadium.

Laboratorio di Restauro castello di romaggi year location team

2014/2015 Romaggi, Italy Francesca Bisio, Beatrice De Nicola, Violetta Gambino, Marina Mori

The manufactured object of study is part of the S.M.E. (Sistema Manufatti Emergenti) in the Romaggi Fraction, Municipality of San Colombano Certenoli. Romaggi, small historic ridge village, with a population of only 34 habitants, is situated at 350 meters above sea level, between the “passo dell’Anchetta” and the “Monte Ramaceto”. The complex is in a state of complete abandonment and degradation, both from the structural point of view (missing integers ceiling and roof and the perimeter walls are collapsed in many cases), both as regards the surrounding vegetation that encompasses the artifact in a disorderly and uncontrolled, making it largely impractical and making difficult the understanding of the understanding of the different locations of use. The systems (electrical, plumbing, ...) are totally absent. For these reasons, a re-functioning project of restoration on the artifact can be very positive because it could have a positive influence on the entire Municipality, bringing tourism and improving the visibility of the whole country. The logic that is followed in the draft of the artifact restoration Romaggi fraction, has origin in the observation of the state of the building, its functions and its link with the territory. We choose to take action to recover the artifact storing as much as possible in its authenticity and in compliance with the requirements given by the PUC Colombano Certenoli in the part concerning landscape discipline. We want to maintain the current status, limiting the interventions to what is strictly necessary to pursue the objectives in a predominantly conservative orientation. The intended use is the choice of bed & breakfast. Through this action we want to convey to you the historical and cultural significance of the place, handing the tourist gastronomic value it offers the Ligurian hinterland also allowing total immersion in natural surroundings; this use will allow you to enter the fraction of Romaggi in a tourist itinerary that will enhance the territory.
