Sailing Lefkas Lefkada, or Leucas or Leucadia or Lefkas or Leukas is a popular Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and a floating bridge. Lefkada measures 35 kilometres from north to south, and 15 kilometres from east to west.
Lefkas is known for some of the most beautiful beaches in all of the Europe, with the world famous blue flag beaches of Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Kathisma. West coast of island is mostly rugged and wild with high cliffs and beautiful beaches, while the east and the south coasts are sailing paradise with calm sea, numerous beaches, bays and caves. Main port is located in Lefkas' capital, the Lefkada town. Lefkada is a typical tourist destination, with lots of bars, restaurants and places to stay the night Lefkada will offer you an all around tourist experience. Also, there are some stunning beaches in and around the town, if you prefer beaches that are not hidden or hard to get. Lefkas is part of the Ionian islands, so while sailing around Lefkas you can easily sail away to one of the other islands such as Corfu, Cephalonia or Zakynthos. All those islands offer their own stunning sites and locations for sailing, with the amazing Ionian Sea in between them.
One other reason Lefkas is so popular, is its great transport connection. Island is connected to the mainland with a long causeway and floating bridge, and the nearest airport is only 25km away in Akton. Because of the bridge, there are no ferries from the mainland to the Lefkas but there are lots of ferries that go to nearby islands.
