otherhood can sometimes be considered a taboo word in the orld of modeling. However, this was not the case for Stephanie itchell, who was successfully able to juggle these wo demanding careers.
A
t age 32 and with an amazing physique it is hard to believe that Stephanie is a proud mother of six. Having always known that she wanted a big family, she was lucky to find a partner that shared the same sentiment. A classic high school sweetheart tale, she and her husband Ronzell have been together for 18 years and have since formed a lovely family with their children, Ronzell Jr., 16, Kayton and Denzel (twins), 15, Khloe, 11, Jocelyn, 8, and Mya, 6. They can now be considered a modern day Brady Bunch. Originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina Stephanie admits that modeling was something that she “just kind of fell into.” She started doing promotions for big-name beer companies such as Coors Light and Bud Light when she was 18, and from there, one thing led to the next, and she soon found herself working for Fredericks of Hollywood, a wellknown lingerie company. (Fun Fact: Fredericks of Hollywood was started by Frederick Mellinger, who is the inventor of the miraculous push-up bra! Yes ladies, we now know who to thank.) Posing for catalogs, billboards, and participating in yearly runway shows in none other than fabulous Cancun, Mexico were all perks to working for this legendary company. In one such runway show, Victoria’s Secret also participated and Stephanie had the privilege of working with world-renown supermodel, Gisele Bundchen. “I got the opportunity to meet her and work with her. That was an honor for me,” she said. Other celebrities that have worked with Fredericks of Hollywood include Pamela Anderson, Brooke Burke, and even Nicky Hilton, who have also posed for their catalogs. After modeling for Fredericks, Stephanie then went on to model body art overseas for up-and-coming artist Leroy Roper.
Shedding some light into the modeling career, Stephanie explained that it is all very fast paced, making her sometimes question to herself, “Why am I doing this?” She concludes, “The finished product, when you see the picture at the end of the day, it makes it all worthwhile.”
Now you may ask yourself how being a mother played a role in her modeling, and Stephanie admits, “it slowed me down a little bit, I wouldn’t model from 4 months into my pregnancy to 2 months post pregnancy.”
But six kids later, Stephanie is able to boast about a successful modeling career, and an amazing experience being a mother. “Oh I love motherhood. It’s the most rewarding experience ever. Modeling was fun and I love it, it has a lot of perks, but it’s nothing compared to motherhood,” she also added that even with all of her work, “family is always more important than my career.” Although she no longer models, Stephanie and her husband have explored new projects. They recently opened a medical spa here in El Paso called Botox and More. Located on 2501 N. Stanton they have everything from Botox, facial fillers, eye extensions, chemical peels, airbrush tanning, and (as the name says) more, such as managing other models. With two other locations, one in Hollywood and one in Las Vegas, and two more opening soon, one in Chicago and in Connecticut, Stephanie and Ronzell are looking to further branch their business.
Incredibly composed, Stephanie is the icon of what many girls aspire to be. Model, mother, and entrepreneur, Stephanie has proved that you can do it all.

Haute Mama By Maritza Perez
Contrary to popular belief, pop bellies are not only aesthetically pleasing, they’re today’s greatest accessory. With celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba popping babies like no other, moms-to-be are today’s “it” girls. In fact, pregnant women have one more reason to smile! More and more designers are wising up and making clothing tailored to the pregnant body. The way you present and carry yourself will directly reflect how you feel about yourself, so go ahead and be that vivacious mom that simply glows with confidence. POSH will gladly offer a few guidelines for the wants and needs of moms and babies. For the professional look, cropped blazers are not only figure flattering, but practical. The Liz Lange collection at Target offers great business get-ups for the expecting mom at an affordable price. Dress to impress One shoulder or strapless dresses have been the preferred article of clothing for expecting celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez. Take advantage of your enhanced cleavage and wear that strapless low cut. Wear bright summer dresses with neon yellow or pink heels. Nothing says perky mom like a pair of stilettos. 22
pregnant women have one more reason to smile! More and more designers are wising up and making clothing tailored to the pregnant body Patterned kimono dresses have been popularized by celebrities such as Gwen Stefani. The band right below the bust and flowy fit will never fail your slightly bloated body. Tunic dresses by Project Runway winner Christian Siriano are available at MoodyMamas.com. Also check out his “Ritzy Mama Cover-ups” which you can simply melt into. Now that you’re a bit self-conscious about your morphing midriff, show off those legs! Short dresses are a must. Mommy musts Duck Duck Goose (5860 N Mesa) has wonderful topical products such as the Tummy Honey Stretchmark fading cream. Also check out the baby slings, which are becoming more and more popular among busy moms. Nursing shawls have recently been re-designed to be multi-functional. At www.innovative-baby.com you can get a L’ovedbaby nursing shawl that also serves as a pregnancy poncho, canopy to cover a stroller, and a lightweight blankie- all in one!
Baby goodies. Stores such as Nono’s (5857 N Mesa) offers boutique clothing for the most pampered kids. Funki Munki (5857 N Mesa) and Bubble Gum (2715 N Stanton) also have awesome children’s clothes and accessories. Moms aren’t the only ones that want to look good! At cutieandpatootie.com there are adorable baby cocoons in patterns such as zebra couture. There has been much speculation over the materials used to make baby bottles due to the possibility of the presence of harmful agents in plastic bottles, which is why Wee Go Glass Baby Bottles are the perfect alternative. They are covered in rubber to avoid breakage, and are guaranteed chemical-free. Baby monitoring systems have been in use for quite a few years, but only until recently has technology outdone itself. The Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor not only allows you to listen to your baby, but lets you know when your baby stops moving for long periods of time. It may not seem like it, but babies are constantly moving slightly, and this system alerts you when the

Chantal
Motherhood with
Blancarte By Jessica Escalante
If Chantal Blancarte had the opportunity to change something about her life, she’d change absolutely nothing. You ask her about her life and she’ll tell you about her children. She admires her mother the most and even though she doesn’t know how she is perceived, she’s admits that she’s transparent, gives good advice, and has a sensible heart.
hantal is mother to Mishka, 4 and Kael, 2 and she embraces motherhood to the fullest extent. Chantal knows it is important to balance work and family life, but ultimately prefers the latter. While other moms are busy finding babysitters every other weekend, Chantal prefers to hang out with her two favorites. She sees motherhood as a blessing instead of an obligation. “God gave me the opportunity to be a mother and my favorite part about it is that while I teach my children different things, I’m also learning from them,” gushed Chantal. “I love being around them, they make me laugh and it’s sweet to see how they can be so innocent and with such a good heart.” Chantal selflessly plans her entire life around her kids. She lets Mishka pretend to help her in the kitchen and also balances time by coordinating outdoor activities for Kael. “We do a lot of activities during the day. I just try to keep them busy with stuff each one likes,” stated Chantal. For now, Chantal would like to focus all of her attention on her two children, but doesn’t shun the idea of extending her family in the future. For many, the idea of motherhood is intimidating. But for Chantal, motherhood is gift. The most important question mothers have is whether they are raising their children in the right direction. Chantal tries to apply the morals her mother taught her and her brothers to her own children’s upbringing. “The most important thing that I would want to teach my children would be respect, to respect themselves and respect others…of course there are millions of things that are very important to teach children during their lifetime, but if they have a solid start, they will value what’s important,” stated Chantal.
Chantal believes in living life to the fullest. “I believe life is a box full of surprises.” Although she doesn’t like planning every detail, she foresees herself as a business woman in the future. Chantal aspires to own a business in the beauty or fashion industry.
Her best advice for other moms is to be patient with their children and to teach them to treat people with respect, regardless of religion, race, or color.

ny BMW wearing a “3” badge has a lot of expectations to meet. As the quintessential entry-level luxury car, the 3 Series defines the category. The 3’s SUV equivalent, however, the 2009 BMW X3, makes the family proud. Its sporty handling and steering, powerful engine, added utility and fun-to-drive nature are all BMW hallmarks. The X3 also fulfills the brand’s reputation for modern luxury with a long list of conveniences, exquisite comfort, premium interior materials and near-flawless build quality. Add to that the X3’s generous seating space (even for taller adults) and spacious cargo area, and
you have an accomplished crossover SUV that’s well suited for the chores of daily life as well as twisty roads. The 2009 BMW X3 is a small luxury crossover SUV that is offered in one trim level, the xDrive30i. Included as standard features are 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, automatic climate control, leatherette (premium vinyl) upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, eight-way-adjustable power front seats with driver memory settings, full power accessories, keyless entry and a 10-speaker CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack. Options are largely grouped into packages. The sport activity package includes
18-inch wheels, running boards, a sport steering wheel and rear privacy glass. The premium package includes leather upholstery, auto-dimming mirrors, ambient lighting and Bluetooth. This package can also be had with upgraded 16-way power front seats. A cold weather package includes heated front and rear seats. Finally, there’s the sport package, which comes with a stiffer sport suspension, sport front seats and steering wheel, and body styling accents. Stand-alone options are also available and include 19-inch alloy wheels with higher-performance tires, a premium audio system, HD radio, a navigation system, a heated steering wheel, adaptive xenon headlights and front and rear parking sen-
sors. The 2009 BMW X3 xDrive30i excels when it comes to handling. Among small luxury crossover SUVs, the X3 has no equal when it comes to arcing along a curvy road, thanks to the superior steering feel, ideal suspension tuning and eager engine power output. However, if what you’re looking for is a family vehicle to haul the clan cross-country in maximum comfort, the X3’s sometimes stiff ride quality is a detriment. The X3’s straight-6 delivers spirited power over the majority of its rpm range, while the automatic transmission’s gearchanges are caffeinated in their eagerness.

Everything’s bigger in Texas,
and Peoria is no exception.
Though located where Club 101 used to be on 3233 N Mesa, Peoria seems to be much more grandiose in every which way. With an enormous flat screen and impressive dance floor, you can’t help but feel like you’re not in Kansas anymore. “It’s beautiful. I go to a lot of clubs in Vegas and it gives me that Vegas feel,” said Nilda Martinez, 25. Peoria has dared to step out of the typical prototype of what a club should be here in El Paso. “We’re trying to do something different from the ultra-lounges, there are lots of those here. We wanted to put together the ultra-lounge and nightclub theme together- this is more of when Juarez meets El Paso,” said co-owner and noted DJ, Johnny Kage. “What I wanted to do was bring something new to El Paso that they didn’t have to travel to Miami to see,” said coowner Gene Gaona. The man with the vi-

sion is Gene Gaona, who was inspired by the name of the Illinois city, Peoria, to grace his club’s entrance. With the cooperation of Neurosurgeon Dr. Henderson and DJ Johnny Kage, this tremendous trio is making its mark in the club scene of El Paso with Peoria and their other club, Republic. Johnny Kage fans may be surprised to find out that what he plays regularly on 104.3 Hit FM isn’t exactly what he plays in Peoria. Kage mainly brings electro house and Vegasstyle mashups, which can include anything from old school rap and hip hop to disco. And just to throw you off he may even throw in a cumbia or two at the end of the night! I got the opportunity to hang in the VIP for a while, and I doubt any club matches the VIP treatment received at Peoria. “Our VIPs are very exclusive, there are four booths and one is behind the DJ. From 1011 pm the dance floor is closed off for everyone but the VIP’s,” said manager Kevin Quijano.
Watching the light show from the VIP area was a major perk, and I’m not the only one that loves my job. Every single waiter, bartender, or bouncer at Peoria was friendly to me and eager to help. As for the atmosphere, Johnny Kage’s description hit the nail on the head: “At other clubs, everyone judges what you wear or what you do, but here it’s just pure energy. It’s always a party.” Capable of fitting up to 1600 people, Peoria always seems surprisingly full. It never looks like a drag or half-empty, yet there is space to dance without bumping into people. “[Peoria] is always fun because you can dance, lounge at the bar, or smoke a cigarette in the patio. You can do all three but still be classy,” said Gaona. Barely opening on March 19 of this year, Peoria has quickly become a favorite for dance lovers and true party goers across the city. Three words of advice: check it out!
Posh Scene Magazine: When pregnant, can women eat anything and everything they want? Dr. Aun: No. Pregnant women need to eat healthy foods such as fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, lean cuts of red meat, and chicken. Pregnant women need to avoid junk food. These are empty calories with minimal nutritional value.
PSM: What are some important nutrients that are essential in the development of a healthy baby? Dr. Aun: Pregnant women need essential fatty acids which are found in fish or supplements. They need to take a prenatal vitamin to ensure adequate fetal development. And they need to increase their iron intake by increasing foods such as lean red meats, beans/ legumes, and green leafy vegetables.

Although part of our devoted culture is still inclined towards believing everything our mothers, grandmothers, and great-aunts say, educational and medical resources are readily available to squash the myths that may have long-term negative effects to pregnant mothers and newborns. Pregnancy is the most crucial time to be selective about what and how much you eat. Your body has always been a temple, only now, there’s a tiny treasure growing inside of it.

We spoke to Dr. Jose Aun, M.D., FACOG and asked him to clear up some common misunderstandings new mothers may have. “Three key elements to a healthy pregnancy are eating healthy, obtaining adequate prenatal care, and maintaining a pregnancy-related exercise routine,” stated Dr. Aun. “Prenatal care is very important for a healthy and successful pregnancy.”
posh health PSM: What are the side effects of Mercury intake? Dr. Aun: Mercury can cause significant developmental damage especially with the fetal central nervous system. To pregnant women, there are minimal side effects from ingestion of mercury which is why I do not recommend sushi/raw fish ingestion in order to minimize exposure.
PSM: How soon can new moms return to their pre-pregnancy food/alcohol habits after having the baby? Dr. Aun: Everything depends on whether the new mom is breastfeeding or not. If breastfeeding, they should follow the rules as if they were still pregnant as food and drinks cross into the breast milk.
PSM: How should an expecting mother monitor her intake to avoid gaining excess weight? Dr. Aun: Pregnant women need to go to their regularly scheduled doctor’s appointments. The mother’s

Pregnancy is the most crucial time to be selective about what and how much you eat. Your body has always been a temple, only now, there’s a tiny treasure growing inside of it. PSM: What foods and beverages should be absolutely banned from consumption during pregnancy? Dr. Aun: Alcohol is not recommended even in small amounts. Mothers should avoid any unpausterized cheeses such as goat cheese. Expectant mothers should also avoid sushi since it is raw fish and is possibly linked to mercury contamination. Caffeine consumption is not recommended during pregnancy as it is a possible link to developmental problems. PSM: What is the quickest and safest way to shed the pounds post-pregnancy? Dr. Aun: Breastfeeding helps with weight loss. A good post-partum exercise regimen is also very helpful.
PSM: What is the recommended amount of weight an average woman should gain during their pregnancy? Dr. Aun: Everything depends on pre-pregnancy weight. On average 2025 pounds is a good rule.

Select the top 5-10 names you like. After your baby is born, you might find the fifth name more suitable to his or her appearance.

Let the baby’s appearance dictate the final choice. Of-course, you wouldn’t keep terms like Toothless Wonder or mashed potato in your list.
4
Meaningful names or names of historical personalities you admire can help children gain direction in their lives.
5
Consider what your child’s initials will spell. Because we failed to think about her hyphenated last name, my daughter’s initials are PMS. So far her wild mood swings have lasted six years.

Don’t name your baby after someone you hate or dislike.
Don’t name your baby with terms that have slang meanings related to parts of the human anatomy. If it rhymes, don’t do it! Anita Margherita- “I need a margarita.” Check your baby name initials together with your surname. Initials of names like Christopher David Player (C.D. Rule of thumb: if it makes you laugh, it will make your child’s classmates laugh— at him! If you think it’s cute, it’s not.
Here are some disastrous mistakes parents can make when naming a child:
Use online naming engines to help you throw a wide net for your name search.
Don’t name your baby Stormy if your last name is Weathers. Or Crystal Chandel Lear.

Expecting parents are so excited about their upcoming arrival; it’s only natural that you might want to share every little detail with friends and family. But what happens when you tell your mom your name choices and she makes a face? Choosing a name is a very personal choice! But if you are thinking of a name or combination of names that formulate a “funny” phrase or joke, DON’T DO IT! You are guaranteeing a miserable school-life for your child.
