[chicago public housing] Addressing the rezoning of industrial districts near downtown Chicago, this project addressed lowincome housing, pedestrian streetscapes, and unique exterior spaces. Emphasis was placed on the concept of parametric modularity, which allows for a diverse mixture of 40 one to three bedroom units, extruded vertically. The ground floor features leasable retail space, a community day care, and public access to an interior courtyard. Each unit has access to the shared public space on the interior of the building while simultaneously offering private balconies on the exterior facades.

[olafur eliasson museum] Located in the SoHo district of New York, this project is specifically designed to showcase the large-scale elemental artwork of Olafur Eliasson. The artist’s philosophy is conveyed through his installations - that each viewer’s experience is unique and therefore causes the individual to question his or her perception of reality; this philosophy that is echoed in this museum’s design. Through strict helical circulation, the viewer is led through a series of spaces of blinding light, utter darkness, and perfectly displayed color. The building itself incorporates Eliasson’s elemental control of light as well as the concept that art is an almost painful ordeal.

performance art studios A response to the sudden increase in interest to establish a concentrated arts community in downtown Kansas City, this project proposed a center to host continuing arts education to secondary education students. The Performance Art Studios offers spaces for music, dance, and theater - each of which is uniquely expressed on the exterior. The building boldly gestures toward the south, opening to the views beyond. The north and south ends of the building incorporate public exterior spaces that are accessible to students, staff, and visitors to stimulate creative interactions.

[small town studio] A year-long endeavor, the studio has dealt with public interest design in underserved rural communities, focusing on opportunities in Eureka, Kansas. Going beyond architectural design, the studio has engaged in exercises in branding, community outreach, and design-build projects. A collaboration with two other individuals within the studio to create the Fall River Development team, the area of focus was greater than the typical project scope, involving 25 acres of private forested land, riverfront, and highway property. A master plan was developed in the first semester, implementing low-impact design solutions for the wooded site that connects programmatic elements throughout the site. Individually, a proposal for a community event venue space is on the boards and is expected to culminate design development upon project completion.

[medina ranch house] This professional project was developed from schematic design to construction documents over the span of eight months. Almost 8,000 sf, the ranch house included programmatic elements for the owners to entertain guests and their children. Now under construction, the home was designed to recall classic French villa vernacular while utilizing local materials.

[art of making] Good design is not simply the pursuit of beautiful architecture, but also the iterative exploration of all things crafted. These projects are the product of a curiosity in the designed environment and subjectively relate personal experiences with objects of beauty.
