GREAT SPIRIT IN THE DANISH CAMP As always, the Danish organization Eksportforeningen will host a large Danish pavilion at the upcoming SMM fair in Hamburg. The Danish maritime companies are well prepared and optimistic - and they have a lot of new products to showcase.
- Our expectations for the SMM are almost larger than ever. SMM is simply the place to be, it’s where the action takes place, says Mark Lerche, Head of Danish Marine Group in Eksportforeningen. - We expect to see an upturn in the market again, after a long period where orders on newbuilding’s kept decreasing. Our forecast for the first half of the year shows, that 2018 will be better than 2017 in every way, says Mark Lerche. OPTIMISM The optimism that has been felt this last year is still present, things are heading in the right direction. - I feel a sense of joy, that we are going to a SMM where we again can see opportunities, says Marc Lerche. - It is my impression that people are well prepared this year. The Danish companies have a lot of new launches in the product and service field - and they are exited to showcase them in Hamburg. We are also seeing great dialogs takings place in the Danish hall, people are already paying visits to their neighbors in the hall to plan and coordinate, in order to make sure that presentation won’t overshadow each other - to make sure that events at the stands are not taking place at the same time as their neighbors,

- We are generally expecting more initiatives on the separate stands this year, Marc Lerche says. NO OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVES While there is a large presence of Danish exhibitioners at the SMM this year, there are no representatives from the Official Denmark. - One might wonder, why there is not shown more political support for what you could consider a great opportunity to boost a main sector in Danish Business, says Mark Lerche, without going into detail with the subject. CRUISE Overall, Marc Lerche, who personally will attend the entire fair, expects that there will be a large focus on the Cruise Industry at this year’s fair. Currently, there are a lot of cruise ships being ordered and a lot of new actors have entered the market - both nationally, shipping companies and shipyards. - Personally, I think it will be interesting to see what shape the German Shipping Industry is in. They have been hit really hard, these last years in particularly has been somewhat of a nightmare for the Germans. What kind of new German shipping reality will we meet at the fair. What kind of global ambitions are left. This will be interesting to see.

DANFOSS - EXTENSIVE PRESENCE ABOARD SHIPS At the SMM, Danfoss will present its complete portfolio from all its segments: From firefighting to sensors, mobile hydraulics, emissions measurement as well motors and drives for the electrical hybrid propulsion & grid systems: the divisions Drives, Industrial Automation, IXA, Power Solutions and Fire Fighting join forces with their broad portfolio.
T
he stand concept reflects Danfoss’ extensive presence aboard ships: from keel to the bridge, Danfoss marine products are used everywhere, making ocean and inland water vessels safer as well as more efficient and environmentally friendly. The components on board are primarily enablers for better processes, energy savings and fire safety. The stand concept with its areas “Engine room / Propulsion”, /”Cargodeck&cargo hold / Auxiliary systems” and Accommodation takes advantage of applications in the systems there, showcasing the benefits to be taken of the use of Danfoss products. FIREFIGHTING For example, Firefighting is showing its SEMSAFE firefighting systems for the marine sector based on two key technologies: high-pressure water mist and low-pressure CO2 technology. The reliable Danfoss firefighting systems are the optimum solution for protecting people and marine assets, while keeping donwtime to a minimum.
Drives is showcasing holistic Hybrid propulsion and Grid systems. Important for the DC distribution system is the VACON DCGuard protection device, which ensures extremely fast cut off in the event of a short circuit. The entire portfolio of AC drives ranges from solutions for main drives to auxiliary drives as for winches or pumps, etc all application on board. SENSORS Furthermore, IXA and Industrial Automation offer a comprehensive portfolio of sensors ranging from pressure over temperature to measuring exhaust gas emissions. As the emission regulations in maritime shipping are becoming stricter, exhaust gas values must be monitored in order to document regulation compliance and to provide feedback for exhaust gas purification. To this, ship owners show an increased interest in being able to document their green profile towards end users in terms of emissions.
SULFUR EMISSIONS As a result of the announced limit values for sulfur emissions, the topic of exhaust gas measurement is becoming more and more urgent since 2020 a maximum of 0.5% will become effective. This is rounded off by Power Solutions and its highly reliable hydraulic solutions for tough mobile applications where the power of the electrical system is insufficient or other reasons suggest the use of hydraulics, on- and offshore. In newbuilt and existing ships, on commercial and naval vessels, from cruise liners to cargoand containerships, River or High Sea, Danfoss provides operators and OEMs with significant benefits in terms of fire safety, speed, logistics, efficiency and, by reducing emissions to the absolute minimum, enabling environmental friendliness. Visitors will find Danfoss in Hall B1.EG, Stand 110
WEILBACH - NEW DIGITAL NAVIGATION PLATFORM At SMM 2018, Danish supplier of nautical charts Iver C. Weilbach & Co. A/S is launching a digital platform with multiple navigation services that reduces administrative costs.
INCREASED ACCURACY AND EFFICIENCY One of the features where Wendis Viewer excels is in the integration of the UKHO’s Admiralty Information Overlay (AIO), which displays Admiralty Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners (T&P NMs) and ENC Preliminary Notices to Mariners (EP NMs) on top of Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs).
WendisViewer gives you complete access to information required for planning your voyage.
The UK Hydrographic Office collects and compiles data from hydrographic offices around the world. This allows them to provide bridge officers with the widest official and compliant coverage of shipping routes and ports through its portfolio of Admiralty Maritime Data solutions.
- The more accurate the information available at the planning stage, and the quicker it is available, the better the situational awareness and efficiency on board, explains Martin Mikkelsen.
- Sharing routes between vessels and the office enables shipowners to monitor fleets and ensures that the vessels operate safely and cost effectively, says Martin Mikkelsen.
- By integrating official Admiralty Nautical Publications as e-books, operators will be able to download and apply the latest UKHO updates to publications electronically. This important feature not only helps to support safety and compliance but can also reduce administration on board the vessel, says Martin Mikkelsen.
- As well as AIO, operators can build different information overlays on top of ENCs such as weather service, tide, emission control areas along with Marpol zones. This way, the platform shows the data the mariner needs when operating in different waters. Together with the integration of Admiralty Digital Publications,
FLEET MONITORING ENSURES SAFETY In addition to ensuring accurate data on board the vessel, that data can be shared between vessels as well as between a vessel and the land-based office.
‘
- Wendis Viewer simplifies voyage planning and saves time by having all the information operators need available on a single user-friendly platform, and thereby avoids the need for different software systems, explains Martin Mikkelsen, Director of Business Development at Iver C. Weilbach & Co
- The platform has a remark function allowing shipowners to quickly warn the mariners, if their vessel is entering no-go areas or insurances zones. Meet Iver C. Weilbach & Co. A/S in the Danish Pavilion hall B1.EG stand 213

DMF 2020: SEEKING NEW HORIZONS In May 2020 the Danish Maritime Fair returns for its fifth edition, this time with a new concept - but still at a familiar location. With support from long time partners, exhibitors and visitors, and having our finger on the pulse - we are currently re-inventing ourselves.
- We are keeping everything that works and getting rid of the things that don’t, and then we are adding new and exciting things, says Martin Uhlenfeldt, Partner in the Media Group Maritime Denmark, and responsible for the Danish Maritime Fair. - We have had some great conversations with partners, exhibitioners and visitors and these have led to the conclusion, that the Danish Maritime Fair is here to stay. We are returning to our roots: hosting an international maritime fair on Danish ground, a fair that promotes The Blue danish maritime magazine

Denmark through international branding of the many excellent maritime products and competences we have in Denmark, says Martin Uhlenfeldt and admits, that the Danish Maritime Fair in 2018 wasn’t perfectly orchestrated. DANISH HOMEGROUND - This is one side of the fair, the Danish side. But the maritime industry is a global one, so the Danish Maritime Fair is The Blue Denmark’s homeground - but at the same time the fair is open to everyone. We believe in open, free and fair competition. Therefore, we would like to see a lot of foreign DAILY NEWS ON WWW.MARITIMEDENMARK.DK
companies at the Danish Maritime Fair - especially from our neighboring countries who are not all in possession of a large international maritime fair to showcase their products, says Martin Uhlenfeldt. - We know that Copenhagen and Denmark is an attractive place to host large events, due to its excellent infrastructure and the many great hotels - which gives visitors a big sense of comfort. POSSIBLE TO SECURE AN OPTION Marketing, sale of stands and conference program will not begin
taking form before 2019, although the first reservations have already been made. But the new concept has to be ready before binding agreements can be made. - We are attending the SMM to let people know where we are in the process, and where we are heading. Of course, we are ready to make options, but that is not crucial to us. We want to maintain the many good relationships we have. There is no sweeping things under the rug, we believe transparency creates trust - even when things go south for a short while, says Martin Uhlenfeldt.

TRANSPARENCY - The majority of our clients told us: Things could have been better last time. But we have experienced that ourselves - that sales go up and down. The most important thing is, how you react to such a situation. You can either look the other way and continue to do things the same way, or - you can choose to have an open dialog and get a clearer picture of what your customers need. You have chosen an open dialog with us, your clients, focusing on our needs. Therefore you can count on us next time as well, says Martin Uhlenfeldt.

MAERSK DECOM - A NEW SPECIALIZED MAERSK COMPANY
Maersk Decom was established in April 2018 as a 50:50 joint venture between Maersk Drilling and Maersk Supply Service. Maersk Decom leverages the parent companies’ heritage of over 50 years of safe and efficient operations, high quality assets and technical capabilities.
- Maersk Decom may be a new company, but it is built on the track record that both parent companies, Maersk Drilling and Maersk Supply Service, have already established within the field of decommissioning. The name carries with it the long legacy of delivering safe and efficient operations to the offshore energy sector, and the global footprint and corporate values that we will continue to share with both parent companies, says Lars Banke, CEO, Maersk Decom. The new company provides bundled decommissioning solutions to global oil and gas operators. Initially covering up to 80% of the decommissioning process, Maersk Decom offers project management, well plug and abandonment, towage of floating units and removal of subsea infrastructure. In the long-term, Maersk Decom plans to provide the full end-to-end process of decommissioning.

GREAT INTEREST Since its establishment, Maersk Decom has received interest from both the North Sea – where more than 400 fields are expected to cease production by 2026 – and from the global market. Latest market reports indicate that despite the recent uptick in oil price, decommissioning projects will still go ahead due to drivers such as infrastructure integrity, class approval and recertification, and limited export infrastructure. - Operators in the North Sea can see the value that Maersk Decom brings to the table. By offering bundled solutions and project management covering, to start out with, up to 80% of the decommissioning value chain, they can entrust the majority of the work scope to one dedicated and experienced point of contact.

kers, trusted third parties such as Customs, other government agencies, and NGOs to collaborate in cross-organizational business processes and information exchanges, all backed by a secure, non-repudiable audit trail. 12-MONTH TRIAL During the 12-month trial, Maersk and IBM worked with dozens of ecosystem partners to identify opportunities to prevent delays
caused by documentation errors, information delays, and other impediments. One example demonstrated how TradeLens can reduce the transit time of a shipment of packaging materials to a production line in the United States by 40 percent, avoiding thousands of dollars in cost. Through better visibility and more efficient means of communicating, some supply chain participants estimate they could reduce the steps taken to answer basic operational questions such as “where is my container” from 10 steps and five people to, with TradeLens, one step and one person. 175 MILLION EVENTS More than 175 million shipping events have been captured on the platform, including data such as arrival times of vessels and container “gate-in”, and documents such as customs releases, commercial invoices and bills of lading. This data is growing at a rate of close to one million events per day. Traditionally, some of this data can be shared through the EDI systems commonly used in the supply chain industry but these systems are inflexible,
complex, and can’t share data in real-time. Too often, companies must still share documents via email attachment, fax and courier. TradeLens can track critical data about every shipment in a supply chain, and offers an immutable record among all parties involved. JOINT COLLABORATION MODEL Since announcing the jointly developed solution to digitize global trade in January 2018, and based on feedback from various members of the global supply chain ecosystem who would like to adopt the technology, IBM and Maersk have modified the go to market model and will now deliver their solution through an extension of their pre-existing collaboration agreement instead of a joint venture.

THE FJORDS TAKES DELIVERY OF FUTURE OF THE FJORDS Tourist ship owner and operator The Fjords has taken delivery of a vessel it believes sets new standards for environmentally responsible passenger transport. Future of The Fjords, a 42m long carbon fibre 400 PAX all-electric catamaran. It is the first vessel of its kind to offer completely emission free transport through the beautiful, yet fragile, Western Norwegian landscape.

gers, he notes. With Future of The Fjords it’s mission accomplished. - Vision of The Fjords was an important development for us, but we had the ambition to take it one step further and replace the diesel electric propulsion with allelectric – thus eradicating all noise
and emissions to air for the entire route. Future of The Fjords does just that, minimising its impact on the environment while maximising the experience of passengers who can now glide silently over the water and come closer to nature than ever before. Taking this delivery is a very proud day for us, and for our
THE FJORDS The Fjords is dedicated to moving its passengers. Operating a fleet of seven tourism and transport vessels on the Western Norwegian fjords of Nærøyfjord, Sognefjord, Hjørundfjord Geirangerfjord and Lysefjord, the company aims to connect customers not just to their destinations, but also to the unique natural beauty that surrounds them. The Fjords is co-owned 50/50 by Fjord1, Norway’s largest ferry company, and Flåm AS, which works to promote Flåm’s world-class tourism opportunities.
progressive owners Fjord1 and Flåm AS. The Future has arrived! ALL-ELECTRIC The144 million Norwegian kroner vessel is propelled by two 450kW electric motors, enabling cruising speeds of 16 knots along the spectacular 90 minute each
way voyage. In another first, The Fjords has, in partnership with Brødrene Aa, developed a unique charging solution called the Power Dock. This 40m long, 5m wide floating glass fibre dock will sit in the water at Gudvangen, housing
a 2.4 MWh battery pack. This charges steadily throughout the day via connection to the local grid network, which does not have the capacity to charge the Future of The Fjords directly. The innovative solution allows the vessel to stably, efficiently and cost effectively ‘refill’ in just 20 minutes.
What’s more, the dock also stores consumables, fuel for sister vessels, and allows black water to be offloaded for treatment on land. This makes Future of The Fjords the only passenger vessel not to discharge sewage directly into the fjords.
