Jamaica has one of the highest numbers of repeat visitors in the Caribbean, with many Canadians coming back again and again to recapture the magic. Most Canadians fly into hip and happening Montego Bay, a popular resort area in itself. Jamaica enjoys a tropical climate, characterized by high temperatures and humid conditions year-round. Average temperature ranges from 19 to 32 degrees Celsius. The island sees two rainy seasons from May to June and September to November.
Licenced cambio (money exchange) centres and commercial banks are accessible in all resort areas. The official currency is the Jamaican dollar. Exchange rates vary daily, so it’s advisable to shop around for the best rate before converting your cash. Most Jamaican ATMs accept international bank cards with Visa, MasterCard, Cirrus and Plus logos. Banks also give credit card advances, change traveller’s cheques among other financial services.
Jamaica does charge a departure tax for visitors, however, this is included in most vacation packages and scheduled and charter airline tickets. To be certain, check with your Maritime Travel counsellor.
Driving The most important thing to remember when driving in Jamaica is that they drive on the LEFT.

Montego Bay ontego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica and is the location of the island’s largest airport, where most Canadian visitors arrive. Indeed, some people choose not to venture further afield and are happy to stay in “MoBay,” as it offers a perfect combination of beautiful beaches, first-rate all-inclusive resorts, terrific shopping and nightlife options. Montego Bay has a certain vibe that makes visitors feel as though they are in the swing of all things Jamaican. There is no end of things to do in Montego Bay. S
ome would say it is all about that beach. The legendary Seven Mile Beach beckons even the most discriminating of beach lovers. Those who have been lucky enough to view that sundrenched swath of white sand and turquoise water will tell you it’s not something you soon forget.
