The founder, Louis Marchesi, was a young member of Norwich Rotary Club who felt a need existed for a club where the young business men of the town could gather, on a regular basis. At their meetings they could exchange ideas, learn from the experiences of their colleagues and play a collective part in the civic life of Norwich. Within a year of inception the membership of this Round Table had grown to 85 and interest was being shown in establishing Round Tables elsewhere. A second Round Table was established in Portsmouth and subsequent growth was rapid, with 125 Tables and a membership of 4,600 by 1939. Round Table proved it had international appeal with the first overseas Table formed in Copenhagen in 1936.

ROUND TABLE

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

Round Table International

After 1945 the pattern of growth was rapidly re-established with Tables being ‘chartered’ all over the UK. Today there are about 900 Tables with a membership of around 10,000.

Round Table India (RTI) is an organization of non-political and non-sectarian young men between the age group of 18 and 40. The aim of the young men is to promote service, fellowship and goodwill in national and international affairs. Round Table India, the association, was formed in 1962 with just a membership of 100. It has, over the last 4 decades, grown to become a 4600 member strong association, individuals who can rise above personal concerns to seek and serve the larger needs of the community. Round Table Trust is a Trust floated by its parent body.

FREEDOM THROUGH EDUCATION

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

Round Table India Trust is a Public Charitable Trust registered u/s 12 AA of IT Act. It has got 80 G approval issued by ITO, Chennai. It has also obtained registration from Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi to receive foreign donations. Round Table India’s main object is to promote education through its National Project

Even after 65 years of independence, Millions of Indian children have never, ever been to school. Illiteracy is a selffulfilling curse that perpetuates the chain of poverty, degradation and child labor. To reach out to this group of underprivileged children, since the year 1996, RTI across the country started adopting projects aimed at providing quality school infrastructure, and then in 1998 this project was formalized and thus born the National Project of Round Table India “Freedom Through Education” - In pursuit of educating underprivileged children. Round Table India’s focus on InfrastructureBuilding is aimed at promoting Education for Posterity and hence RTI has put in colossal efforts to build FTE School Blocks across the nation.

6

Our members (called Tablers) identify needy Schools for underprivileged that are operating from dilapidated or open structures; schools that have land available but little resources to take up big ticket expenditures like Construction. It is here that RTI steps in and builds School Blocks with Amenities across India to help such efforts and hands over newly constructed quality school Blocks to the school bodies. Round Table India under Freedom Through Education has built 6623 Classrooms in 2849 Schools impacting 7.28 million Children.

Being the 33rd Chairman of Trichur Round Table 88 has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience for me. We have tried to accomplish all the facets of Tabling this year, giving equal significance to each one of them. The highlight of the year was the resounding success of Run Thrissur Run Half Marathon 2020. We can proudly say that RTR 2020 is placed among the most Professionally Organized Marathons in India. This year we had more than 2,500 Runners from all over India and raised around Rs. 3,30,000 as profit.

CHAIRMAN MESSAGE

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

Dear fellow Tablers,

I would like to congratulate our Fundraising convener Tr. Jacob as well as all the Tablers, HT’s and Square legs for working as a team to make sure that we could provide an experience to runners that no other marathon could in Thrissur. I Believe, no Fundraiser is justified unless the funds are contributed to the needful. The unexpected pandemic situation derailed our plans a bit for the year. In-spite of that we were able to do our social responsibility to the community in many ways. Our beneficiary for RTR2020 was Thrissur Parivaar. ThrissurParivaar is an association of parents for persons with intellectual and developmental difficulties. Thrissur Parivaar is very active in conducting awareness as well as training programs in the area of autism and other intellectual disorders. The team is always in the forefront to make parents aware of their rights and assures that governmental schemes intended to provide relief to these families reach the right hands. We also helped them to organize a Puberty and Adolescent Stimulation Solution workshop for mothers/Sisters of Children with Intellectual and Developmental Difficulties at St. Mary’s College, this year.

12

I wish the very best for our Incoming Chairman Tr.Jacob and his fantastic team, Secretary Tr. Arjun and Treasurer Tr. Joe. I would like to extend my full support and I can’t wait to see all the plans you have for the year. Thank you. Yours in Tabling,

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

Now I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the loss of our beloved past Tabler Sq.Leg George Paul this year. he was a charter member and also a past chairman of TRT88. It was definitely the saddest moment for us this year and my prayers are with his family.

Tr. Ravi Vijayakumar Chairman 2019-20 Trichur Round Table 88

13

As we begin a new tabling year, it gives me great honour and privilege to address you as the new Chairman of Trichur Round Table-88. It is indeed a tough task to live up to the aspirations of the Tabling Fraternity and Families in Thrissur. Let me assure you a whole hearted participation and involvement from the incoming Headboard throughout the year.

INCOMING

CHAIRMAN MESSAGE

After a hectic year, Tr. Ravi Vijaykumar steps down from the helm. I must say, the work put in by him and his Headboard has seen Trichur Table come out strong. Would like to compliment Tr. Ravi and his Headboard for leading the pack this year with tremendous passion.

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

Dear Friends,

The current Pandemic situation looming over our heads is threatening to disrupt ways in which we conduct business and fellowships in our table. There has not been a previous year where the true meaning of the RTI motto - “Adopt- AdaptImprove”- has been put to test. And that is what we need to focus on to keep our spirits high during this challenging year. Thanks to the valuable inputs of the Incoming HT’s Sq. Leg. Manesh Chacko and Sq Leg. Sunil Salunke, the agenda for the year have been planned carefully. Most of our gatherings this year would have to be in a Hybrid Format, where those who feel comfortable in meeting up physically are more than welcome. At the same time, there is no compulsion to be there in person as there would be an option to join in virtually for almost all meetups. Thanks to Technology, we can still catch up. 14

That being said, the plans for the year would mean little if we do not have the support of individual Tablers of TRT-88. Your effort to participate in upcoming events, be it physically or virtually, is critical in ensuring a memorable Tabling Year.

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

With more support and Team work required this year to keep up the momentum, I have called in for additional support from our Ladies. They have been given Special Convener Posts, in partnership with Tablers, to mix things up and get Families more involved. I would like to thank each of the Ladies who have agreed to take up the posts offered to them.

It was unfortunate that TRT-88 could not host the AAGM this year due to Covid-19. The AAGM Conveners Tr. Aakarsh and Tr. Jack, along with Chairman Tr. Ravi, had groomed the Table throughout the year to take up the responsibility and deliver as expected. But the good work we have put in is not in vain as the Area has accepted our request to allow us to take it up next year in 2021. We are confident that this crisis will tide over by then and we should be able to host a full fledged AAGM, Thrissur Style!!! I appeal to all the Tablers and Ladies to commit whole heartedly to your Convener posts and to each activity we intend to carry out this year. We will come out on top at the end of this, having made the bonds between Families stronger. Let us not forget: “WE ARE FAMILY. LMF Tr. Jacob Pulimoottil Incoming Chairman Trichur Round Table 88 (2020-21)

15

A year ago, when Chairman Tr.Ravi assigned me the position of the Secretary, it did not cross my mind, the magnitude of responsibilities and the commitment a tabler has to have in order to keep up to all the facets of the tabling. It really took me to be in the position to imbibe a tablers’ role in the society. Tabling has proved again and again- ‘To the needy through fellowship’ is the right way ahead. A close knit table can do wonders to the society we live in.

Trichur Round Table 88 | Annual report | 2019 - 2020

To my dear brothers in Tabling,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Area chairman Arun Suresh, AST Vishnu and the entire Area Board for their continued support. It gives me immense pleasure and energy to have had the opportunity to compile the wonderful activities of a dynamic year that passed by.

SECRETARY MESSAGE

In the midst of the tough times the world is undergoing in this pandemic- ‘COVID-19’, I wish all of you a safe and healthy year ahead. Happy Reading!! Yours in Tabling, LMF.TR. Jack Chandy Francis 16
