In 1932, Guthrie Bowron was appointed agent for Dulux Paints and around this time opened a wallpaper store in Christchurch.

Guthrie Bowron became a public company in 1963 and by 1969 had 18 branches throughout the country, retailing mainly paint and wallpaper. In 1971, the company was purchased by ICI (NZ) Ltd, the owner and manufacturer f the Dulux Paint brand and by 1985 had 34 outlets. The company and all its stores remain 100% New Zealand owned and operated.

The store offers a range of decorating products such as Dulux and Cabot’s paint, selected wallpaper brands, tiles, flooring, curtains, blinds, homeware, awnings, shutters, and other decorating tools. It has a large selection of sampling for both flooring and window dressings and offers a free in-home measure and quote for window dressings and flooring.

The store in Blenheim has an onsite workroom and an in-house installer. The staff offer advice on how to revamp their customer’s homes. These experts also have knowledge covering all categories (over 100 years in total) that they’re very willing to share.

For over 120 years, Guthrie Bowron has been known for its brand, as it has 48 stores nationwide. The franchise has been awarded five stars by Canstar Blue for its most satisfied customers in home furnishings this year.
